@@freshbread4039 That's a funny way to spell "it's in" but I can so clearly hear how that would be pronounced that I think it's intentional. I only bring it up because I'm curious to know if it is.
Not a fan of this idea on Selina coming from rich family who is losing money. She's more interesting when she comes from porverty and steals either to survive or for the thrill of stealing from rich people who got the life she never had. This is what make her dynamic with Bruce so interesting, bc they both challenge each other perspective: While Catwoman shows Batman that not all criminals are evil, some are just trying to survive in the streets, Bruce shows Selina that there are genuine good people who care for others instead of neglecting them like she saw.
They’re going for a more Gloden/early Silver Age feel. The idea of Selina growing up poor is pretty new. DC characters generally evolve a bit more than, Marvel characters and have a good deal more variation. Furthermore, Selina being rich means there are more opportunities for her to interact with Bruce in their civilian identities.
@@timelordvictorious Not quite. In the original stories while Catwoman was married to wealthy man who, she suffered abuses from her husband. When Selina divorced from him, he ruined her life causing her to become a thief.
Love that Ed Brubaker is actually getting paid for some of the amazing work he does. (For those out of the loop, Brubaker effectively created the popular Winter Soldier character for Marvel, but has publicly stated he got paid more in royalties for a joke cameo in one MCU movie than for all the comics he wrote combined. Marvel has made millions putting his work onscreen, and he has seen almost none of that money himself. So a union-negotiated writing contract on Batman is a good step up for him.)
He seems to have landed on his feet over at Prime video. His Criminal series has been picked up and will star Charlie Hunnam! Shame it has taken him away from season two of Caped Crusader though.
Theory I think in her fist apperance, Selina will not wear her costume yet. It's only after she meet Batman, she gets inspired and creates her own super villain/anti-hero persona. Also, if the inspiration for this version of Catwoman is Lady Eve, I could see Selina first scene having her spying on Bruce (similar to how Eve spied on her Charles Pike in the film) and comments on Bruce's behavior, noticing how different he is from the rich men she met (establish how her and Bruce are able to read and connect with each other, since they both similar and have secret lifes).
I don't know if their approach was to get actors who have never voiced the characters before, but if they were open to it, a voice actor that I would love to see voice Catwoman again is Laura Bailey. I really think she has a perfect Catwoman voice.
Noted. Am really, really curious as to who they'll cast for the show... shall they be mostly familiar live action actors, Western animation veterans, and/or web animation and anime new blood?
Really hope they'll keep the character's usual soft spots for catlife, an occasional enforcer of women's justice, and also being a friend to young kids. In my opinion, at least. 2:06: "Chase Me" all over again. I don't see the purples in the Caped Crusader design compared to The Brave and the Bold though. In hindsight, her cleavage isn't the most distracting thing. Rather, it's her cape. That thing is extremely impractical for her wily ways. Will expect Commish Gordon to be the next subject. After that, speculation on who and what the Batman himself will be.
I hoping this version of Catwoman to be like in Ed Brudaker series. Protector of the East End of Gotham. Able to show her family and friends that we haven't seen yet.
2:37 "Practical leather jumpsuit?" Leather is actually quite constricting, which would be a real problem to an acrobatic cat burglar like Catwoman. Her style of crime requires ease of movement. Ironically, spandex is actually more practical for her than leather!
I heard that this catwoman was blind for a second and I was so confused and... A bit intrigued. However, now that I read the subtitles and heard it better, I know that she isn't and a bit disappointed
@@FrozenJack2007 this whole comment was about a misreading/mishearing when he gave the characterization of this cat woman. I thought she was blind but then I turned on the subtitles and it helped understand what he really said. A blind cat woman could have been an intriguing alteration of the story and they could have also kept it grounded, which would have been a great new angle and turn for the story to take.
Man, we've been getting some good animated comic shows lately. This sounds like it'll continue that trend, and hopefully it will. I'm a huge fan of Golden and Silver Age stuff, so it sounds right up my alley.
I like the new back story. I've always thought Selina worked best as a scrappy woman living on the streets, just scraping by using her wits and attitude. But she's classy and elegant and this sells that duality very well. I think it hits both sides of the feline nature: she hunts for survival outdoors and darts across alleys and fences to evade capture, only to prance home with her spoils and retire to a velvet pillow like a queen. It's the most cat thing I've ever heard - seeing herself as above others to live a rich lifestyle by fighting for it tooth and claw in the gutters. And with her being a *former* heiress, there's an abandoned cat angle I hope they take advantage of. Perhaps the romantic tension will stem from her *want* to settle back into safety and comfort in Bruce's arms, conflicting with her *need* to be free and wander as the cat is wont to do.
It's an incredibly stylish design and easily my favorite of the ones they've shown so far. It always looked great, even back in the 40s. But I'm also a fan of the Long Halloween look too. Something about purple that just makes Selina more distinct than all the other generic cat burglars running around in comics.
The modern look is kinda boring. I appreciate the fact that the creators are using her classic golden age costume even if it isn't "practical " or "realistic" (like dressing as a bat and fighting clay monsters is realistic) Her origin reminds me of The Penguin from 2004 The Batman cartoon. Penguin was obsessed with rebuilding his family fortune.
Interesting. I'm curious. I didn't even know a new Batman show was coming out. Maybe I'll give it a look. Overall, I've got no issue with the idea itself. It'll just come down to the chops of the writer in this case. It's been so long since I last saw BTAS though. I'm wondering if age and nostalgia will cause me to think this is worse in some way, even if it turns out to be just as good.
You'll be surprised with B: TAS' quality. Can easily say it beats X-Men and Spider-Man: The Animated Series by a lot of long shots like animation, voice acting, and music. Not story arc stuff and cameos though.

Am I the only one who's getting mighty sick of shows dropping all their episodes at once? Build some anticipation and word of mouth for God's sake. Otherwise everyone will just talk about it for a weekend and then the show will be out of the conversation again for who knows how long.
I feel the opposite way. I prefer all episodes being made available at once so I can watch them at my own pace. Having to wait a week between episodes of X-Men '97 was excruciating for me. But I get why others will feel differently. The only issue I'm going to have is figuring out how the hell am I going to talk about 10 episodes of this show before interest fades away...
I really hate her design in this series. I've never been a fan of the character - but the whole look they've chosen really makes her look foolish and sort of tacky?
