I tried it. It’s powerful weed killer and do not harm the grass. I accidentally sprayed some on my chili plant and half of the plant were burned 😅😅😅 Anyway, I pruned off the burnt parts and the plant survived. 😁

I have added some surfactant to the mixture and it works great. The grass sometimes looks grey in the treatment area for a while but it comes back within a couple weeks.
Key lated just like you said and essential to be active in your high ph soil. You could make your own with ferrous sulphate heptahydrate and some citric acid if the supply is precious. We can buy 22 kilos of feso4 granules for 406 kroner a lifetime supply for most folks. Dry..... a mix of the iron and Ammonium sulphate is a very old weed mixture

Here in Canada, we have bans. But we have a weed be gone product iron based. It does work blackening leaves, but if the dandelion, thistile and plantain roots are established, you'll have to pull them out anyway.

If by chance you stain cement or wood decking, a Wood Restorer/Deck Cleaner that contains Oxcilic Acid will neutralize the iron enabling you to wash it away. But, depending on how much, or how deep the iron staining penetrates, you may need to use a pressure washer versus a garden hose.
Hey mate, yeah Canada is almost as tough as Sweden on these things. You have fiesta available from Amazon i think, give that a go, or if you can find other chelated iron. I think i works great, I can imagine it doesn't work as good as normal herbicides but since that's not even an option, we might as well go with the iron :) Good luck mate!
Hey mate, oh really? I have experienced the opposite, the clover stolons likes to be cut and it causes the clover to spread even more. But I don't know that for sure, maybe I will try to scarify more often too and see if that helps with the in laws lawn. Thanks mate.

If you wish to be a full nerd... mow short and frequently over time, then power rake the lawn. All clover should linu up and stick out after power raking. Then you can pull out the clover laboriously but at least it'll be separated up from your desired grass. What ever your labor missed, combine that effort with Sam's method.
And here I am trying to fill my whole lawn with clover 😂 I love clover because it's drought resistant and it feeds the pollinators. It's the creeping charlie I want to get rid of.

This is a new way, usually I spend hours just going around the lawn and picking any weeds I can find, it's oddly satisfying to do that, at least for a lawn nerd like me haha, hopefully this will cut back that time :D
Hi Sam, thank you verry much for your videos, they are great. I use chelated iron twice a year, each time 7 days (or 14 days if I want to spread it twice with a 7 days interval) before my renovation (scarification or power rake). It really does a great job in theses conditions, also it will not oubviously work on other grass such as poa annua or crab grass… It shouldn’t be use on grass younger than 6 months. I have a regular supplier in France (Reverdi sold by Gazoneo) but I don’t know if he sends to Sweeden (unfortunately the owner barely speak English). It is a 4,5% iron concentrated solution. I use it with a 80ml/L dilution rate (I do calculate when it comes to my yard ;-). Prices are expensive though, how do they compare to what you found ?
Hey dude, I also think it works super well, I mean maybe not as well as selective herbicides but for being "just" iron it works really good and gives us a chance to deal with weeds in a more environmental friendly way. Too bad it doesn't take care of grassy weeds :) After I made this video the supplier I got it from stopped selling to private consumers, too many people reached out to them asking for it. So I cant really compare pricewise since now it is absolutely impossible to find ANYWHERE in Sweden, pretty ridiculous to be honest, not sure why no one wants to sell it. So talk to your supplier and ask him nicely to send everything he got to Sweden :D
Hi Sam! Thanks for the video. I wonder if this works on nusedge and crabgrass...in my country chelated iron is cheap, it is sold in powder and it needs to be mixed with water. The question is how much powder per liter? ...the instructions say 1 teaspoon per 2 liters, for normal use. Like you I also have been using the picking up method with the aid of a couple of special tools but nutsedge is a real pain with the tubers running underground, at least it looks more like grass...Although we do have chemicals I refuse to use them. Please keep up with your videos I love that you are experimenting on your neighbor's lawn 😁🌱
Hi! Not sure it does, since nutsedge is more like grass I don't think anything other than roundup will work on it. Crabgrass as well, I think you will need to get some heavier pre-emergents or selective herbicides for crabgrass too. Don't know much about herbicides since we aren't allowed to use them anyways. But even if we were, I feel the way you do, not sure I would use them anyways. Doesn't really take away the root cause of the problem, just the symptoms. Need to make sure the grass thrives and takes over. Of course, why use your own lawn when you can mess with the neighbors haha :D
@@SamsLawn There are selective herbicides that work on nutsedge (and other sedges) and crabgrass. I agree that iron will not likely kill it since it seems to target a specific type of broadloaf and some soft ivy. I know that sulfentrazone and halosulfuron will kill nutsedge and not grass. But of course these are herbicides. For nutsedge, excavation would work too. But you have to do it with a shovel because heavy, gas powered equipment is probably banned, too lol. So get to work !
Thanks mate! It can discolor the grass, make it darker, almost grey blackish if you use too much but the grass will just grow out of it once you mow it, it doesn't die off.
Hey Mate, chelated iron is more easily absorbed by the plants, so they get a higher dose with less, it also goes through the plant easier and doesn't oxidize as fast as normal iron sulphate. So the weeds pretty much overdose on it. Btw, a tip is to also use magnesium to make your lawn greener, awesome complement to the iron treatment.
Thank you for this video. Did you find a noticeable difference between the two solutions? Which one would you recommend? And would you use a lower concentration solution for blanket spraying?
Hey Amy, The one with the higher concertation was much more effective and it wasn´t high enough to damage any grass at all so I use that ratio after this test. The lower one was not enough to really deal with the really established weeds. So the higher dose for spot spraying or blanket. Even if the grass takes a bit of damage and changes colour it´s fine, it won´t kill it, grass can regulate iron uptake so it never dies from it, it will bounce back.
Hey mate, hmm I think roundup is the only solution, to nutsedge at least. I'm not that great on herbicides, since we are not allowed to use them over here I don't know that much about which active ingredient to use for what. Sorry mate, hope you find something or someway of dealing with them. When you do have a good starting point, as little weeds as possible, no herbicide or treatment beats just spending an hour every week and picking any weeds you see. I do it everytime I mow the lawn, as soon as I see a weed I pick it, that way you let the grass take over. Maybe easier said that done. Good luck mate.
It wouldn't hurt it at all, grass doesn't take in as much as broadleaf weeds do, worst case it will get blackish for a while and then come back. As you say Dandelions are hard to get rid of but out of all weeds the clover and dandelion was the two that responded the fastes to the chelated iron, they died off after a few hours. Interesting to see if they will come back.

It's harmless for the grass, the only thing that can happen is that if you use too much, the grass will also turn blackish, but after a mow or two it will be green again, grass has a switch, it won't consume more iron than it needs.

Salam Aidin, yes, for sure, it takes an Iranian to spot one 😅😉 I know there are a lot of people going over to Norway to buy Trim plenrens, but no herbicides are allowed in Sweden for homeowners. You need a commercial license to buy it and that includes going through all the courses and yearly renewing your license. I don´t mind it to be honest, I don´t really like herbicides, it usually just treats the symptoms and doesn´t really deal with the real issues. However, it was nice to find something like this to deal with some weeds in a more "natura" way other than straight up chemicals.

They can penetrate pretty deep and you can get alot of the root system aswell when you get the teqhnique in. But for clovers that stuff was amazing. I have been mowing abit too low and that seems to allow the clovers to thrive, and in some areas overtake the grass.
@@guly I came here when I was 4, so basically my whole life :) For sure mate, chelated iron is so stupidly hard to find, can´t understand why. You are probably correct that it´s easier to find herbicides. But if you do find it, it works great! Clover is one of those annoying weeds, it seems it enjoys everything you do to it and just keeps growing. If you have a lot of it I feel that chelated iron or herbicides are the only choice, so hard to get rid of.
hey mate! Unfortunately it does not kill grassy weeds like crab grass, it works to similar as normal grass, which is why it is much more difficult to control. Other broadleaf weeds it takes care of just fine, down to the roots.
This is what's recomended by producer : REKOMMENDATION Doser: • Fe-DTPA 3%: 66 ml/1000 liter bevattningsvatten motsvarar 2 ppm järn i näringslösningen. • Fe-DTPA 6%: 33 ml/1000 liter bevattningsvatten motsvarar 2 ppm järn i näringslösningen. Blanda inte järnkelat i stamlösning med syra som ger pH under 3.
Hey mate, is that the general recommendation for using the chelated iron? I had instructions for that too, but I am not sure what the ratio or amount should be for the purpose of killing weeds though.

I said I was using it for weed control, they didn't even know you could do that :D I paid about 860 kr for the 10 liters, but the shipping was even more expensive. Didn't see the shipping cost until after the order was sent unfortunately. That cost makes it not worth it, hopefully there is a way to get it cheaper. I am trying to ask around and see if anyone can provide it.

I agree! Even if it was legal I woulnd´t use it, no point in just treating symptoms, I rather take care of the root cause or just live with some weeds here and there, it doesn´t bother me that much, in the end it´s just a lawn and it´s just grass :)

LMI där jag köpte hade fått väldigt många förfrågningar så de sa att de slutar sälja den till privatpersoner, väldigt märkligt då jag trodde de levde på att sälja saker som folk vill ha. Jag jagar dock vidare. Återkommer om jag får tag i någon. Tyvärr får man inte samma effekt med vanligt järnsulfat, är den inte kelaterad så blir det svårt för ogräset att få i sig den mängden för att "överdosera", dessutom rör sig inte järnsulfat genom plantan på samma sätt som kelaterat järn gör.

My clover too. I forgot to mention that. Dandelions are perennials so they are tough to get rid of.

Nearly every herbicide in Canada is chelated iron. Even Fiesta that lawn companies use is iron

Sam, I’ve found that clover doesn’t like being repeatedly attacked with a scarifying tool. My SunJoe has done the trick.

What do you do with the dead weeds, dig them up? I have a thousand dandelions deep roots can I just scarify after without them coming back?

Hey mate, hmm I think roundup is the only solution, to nutsedge at least. I'm not that great on herbicides, since we are not allowed to use them over here I don't know that much about which active ingredient to use for what. Sorry mate, hope you find something or someway of dealing with them. When you do have a good starting point, as little weeds as possible, no herbicide or treatment beats just spending an hour every week and picking any weeds you see. I do it everytime I mow the lawn, as soon as I see a weed I pick it, that way you let the grass take over. Maybe easier said that done. Good luck mate.

USA here. Cannot find the liquid form but I see powder. It's so expensive that I'd rather keep my weedy lawn.
I think Scotts EcoSense or Ortho Elementals are two brand sold in the US with chelated iron. Not sure about the price though, might be expensive.
What would this do to my fescue or Bermuda lawn?
It wouldn't hurt it at all, grass doesn't take in as much as broadleaf weeds do, worst case it will get blackish for a while and then come back. As you say Dandelions are hard to get rid of but out of all weeds the clover and dandelion was the two that responded the fastes to the chelated iron, they died off after a few hours. Interesting to see if they will come back.

En till fråga, varför använder du inte Ferrovital / järncitrat? Det är också kelerat järn men ska tydligen brytas ned snabbare av mikroorganismer och det absorberas även snabbare av bladväxter (ogräset).
Vart kan man få tag på det?
Jag använde bara det jag fick tag på, letade ganska länge innan jag ens hittade den jag använde.

Tjena Robin, jag köper det från Molnsätra ute vid stäket, man får låna släp av dem så jag har hämtat själv. Fraktpriser har skjutit i höjden på allt just nu, knappt värt om inte man hämtar själv. 1kr/kg kostade själva dressen när jag köpte.
I see that DTPA chelate is used in alkaline conditions. Should I use a different chelate for acidic conditions?
For acidic soils you could use any of them really, go with the cheapest one.
Give us a month or 2 update on how well it goes.

jag köpte det hos LMI AB, men efter video har de tydligen fått för många förfrågningar så de har slutat sälja det till privatpersoner.. Förstår inte riktigt varför. Har även hört mig av till andra som haft det för att se om de inte kan göra någon 1 litersvariant för privatpersoner men jag har inte ens fått något svar från någon av dem. Svenska återförsäljare verkar inte gilla privatpersoner när det gäller gräsgrejer verkar det som.
Will this kill grass? Id like to try but dont want to kill off my cool season grasses
It's harmless for the grass, the only thing that can happen is that if you use too much, the grass will also turn blackish, but after a mow or two it will be green again, grass has a switch, it won't consume more iron than it needs.

Kills Clover, dandlines, tistle etc, without harming grass. Suprised, normally Norway is more stright with these kind of things than Swe. Btw is ur etnhicity by any chance Iranian?

I know there are a lot of people going over to Norway to buy Trim plenrens, but no herbicides are allowed in Sweden for homeowners. You need a commercial license to buy it and that includes going through all the courses and yearly renewing your license. I don´t mind it to be honest, I don´t really like herbicides, it usually just treats the symptoms and doesn´t really deal with the real issues. However, it was nice to find something like this to deal with some weeds in a more "natura" way other than straight up chemicals.

Ingen Reel mowers, kun roboter enn så lenge :P Men du stoppet meg just i tide, med en annen video. jeg var på vei til å spre 1 tonn med sand på plenen, som i utgangspunktet er ganske leirete :P U are right tho, from a newb perspective i was sure sand would even help bring us world peace. I was absolutley sold on the sand. The problem with ur Chelated iron is its freaking hard to find any. I honestly think its easier to find normal herbecide for me here in Norway than that mixture. But yes it was nice to see how effective it was. Sure, dandelines can be picked with different tools. They can penetrate pretty deep and you can get alot of the root system aswell when you get the teqhnique in. But for clovers that stuff was amazing. I have been mowing abit too low and that seems to allow the clovers to thrive, and in some areas overtake the grass.

For sure mate, chelated iron is so stupidly hard to find, can´t understand why. You are probably correct that it´s easier to find herbicides. But if you do find it, it works great! Clover is one of those annoying weeds, it seems it enjoys everything you do to it and just keeps growing. If you have a lot of it I feel that chelated iron or herbicides are the only choice, so hard to get rid of.

Does chelated iron affect crab grass??? Does it kill off the roots too and seeds?
hey mate! Unfortunately it does not kill grassy weeds like crab grass, it works to similar as normal grass, which is why it is much more difficult to control. Other broadleaf weeds it takes care of just fine, down to the roots.

Hey mate, is that the general recommendation for using the chelated iron? I had instructions for that too, but I am not sure what the ratio or amount should be for the purpose of killing weeds though.

@@adriandumitru2584 Ok, I read the same on their website, it's just the rates for using it on plants and grass in general. I said I was using it for weed control, they didn't even know you could do that :D
I paid about 860 kr for the 10 liters, but the shipping was even more expensive. Didn't see the shipping cost until after the order was sent unfortunately. That cost makes it not worth it, hopefully there is a way to get it cheaper. I am trying to ask around and see if anyone can provide it.

I have no idea why, I thought you would be glad to sell more, but apparently not. So I am still trying to find a good vendor I can recommend in Sweden. Seems very hard to find over here.

I agree! Even if it was legal I woulnd´t use it, no point in just treating symptoms, I rather take care of the root cause or just live with some weeds here and there, it doesn´t bother me that much, in the end it´s just a lawn and it´s just grass :)

Tjena, ja det funkar förvånansvärt bra måste jag säga, överträffade mina förväntningar, hade bara läst om det men trodde inte det skulle fungera så pass bra ändå. Jag fick tag i det från LMI, men hörde från några andra tittare att de slutade sälja till privatpersoner kort efter videon släpptes, de fick för många förfrågningar. Suck! Sjukt svårt att hitta någon återförsäljare jag kan hänvisa till, många säljer enbart till företag och de flesta svarar inte ens när man kontaktar dem. Jag fortsätter leta och säger till om jag hittar någon 🤷♂️

Tjena Martin, tyvärr har jag inte fått tag på någon återförsäljare, lite förvånad att 9/10 inte ens varar på mina mail tyvärr. LMI där jag köpte hade fått väldigt många förfrågningar så de sa att de slutar sälja den till privatpersoner, väldigt märkligt då jag trodde de levde på att sälja saker som folk vill ha. Jag jagar dock vidare. Återkommer om jag får tag i någon. Tyvärr får man inte samma effekt med vanligt järnsulfat, är den inte kelaterad så blir det svårt för ogräset att få i sig den mängden för att "överdosera", dessutom rör sig inte järnsulfat genom plantan på samma sätt som kelaterat järn gör.

@@homan1571 Jag köpte den hos LMI, man kan maila dem och be att få köpa en dunk. Dock kostar den 861 kr och frakten kostar ännu mer, det var frakten som gjorde det ovärt, annars räcker dunken väldigt länge. Dock hoppas jag att pulvret jag fick tips om på Amazon men kelaterat järn också ska fungera, då kan du köra på den istället. Mycket billigare och rimligare pris.
