    I used to laugh at prius owners, then ended up with a cheap one. I've used it camp in all the southern states and it never cost me over $50 in fuel. I can leave it on all night for heat or air and it only occasionally start to maintain temp. My ram 2500 just kinda sits around anymore. I love it and will buying a nicer one in the near future.

      What exactly was so funny about the Prius?

    • @jafinch78
      @jafinch78 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MouseyBusiness I smiled, thinking about how I still own a ram 1500 and now two prius. My design is more low drag for the rear end so the container is more tear drop in shape with a tighter sealed fit to the rear. I like the roof rack design, though 100 mile per hour tape like taping those seams came to mind. I don't mind the roof rack, though really don't like the loss in efficiency in my opinion even though I keep thinking I can get one for the 2006 so I have one for the gen 2 as well. Oddly, I went backwards in time to see what the gen 2 are like most recently. I think I like the gen 2 more for city driving and the gen 3 for long drives, highway at least and at least when its hot out since the AC seems to effect the engine performance in Eco mode at low speeds. Though the 2013 has almost 283K miles on.

    I'm planning on buying myself a Prius and converting it, so I've been on one of those rabbit holes and this is definitely one of the best setups I've seen. Thanks for the tour.

      I'm surprised it took that big of a hit without towing anything. Usually they get in the 50mph range

    looove my little '16 Prius touring. I take it all over and could do much more with a little lift, hitch and roof rack. great info!

    I'd love to add a rack to my setup, but I've seen CRAZY drops in MPG. Along the lines of -3mpg with JUST the rack, and - 10-15 with the rack and something on it. I just can't justify that hit when adding a hitch-shelf has an almost negligible effect on fuel efficiency. It makes sense, sing the Prius' main advantage is the tear-drop shape. If you increase the height to add obstructions to airflow, you've just created a turbulence generator on the roof and killed your MPG - In the back, it's more or less in the natural turbulent airflow of the Prius so you don't take much more of a hit.

    What hitch attachment is that bro? Post the link. I have a 2017 Prius prime and want to add that extended arm to my 2inch hitch also! Great idea!

  • @jafinch78

    Awesome to see this design! I've totally worked on the design for something somewhat like the hitch and more of a low drag design container so to add weight and also take advantage of the 15 percent approx drag reduction potential. I also was thinking of moving the fridge freezer to the container so to make all that area in the container for kitchen and toiletries. Wound up not traveling overnight like I used to and haven't gotten much past the materials stock waiting to be picked back up again. I now own a gen 2 prius, so have that potential as well. Actually, the original design was for the 2001 dodge ram to help lower drag along with the Mike Bassich style walk through and rear cap. I recently saw the photo of the drawings and is this like mind control AI suggesting or what? Anyways, yeah, mine is more to lower drag and create space whether improves efficiency or not. Neat designs!

    Nothing more than gravel roads I guess? It doesn’t off road, at least not as I define those words. Looks like a nifty camper. Wouldn’t have expected a Prius as a camper.

      th-cam.com/video/ifNDywTMKTE/w-d-xo.html idk - i consider double black diamond rated 4WD trails as offroad. a little lift, good tires, its narrow track, and skillful driving can take the prius much further than gravel roads.

      Certainly a great camper, more so than it is an off roader. It has a great camping mode, where you turn the car on and can run the climate control system all night without the car running. The ac runs on electricity, it doesn’t need the motor running. But what it does is monitor the battery level while you’re running the ac, if it gets too low the motor will come on automatically and run just long enough to charge the battery back up, and then shut itself off, leaving the ac running.
