    Best experience I’ve ever had in video games was my first time loading into the f-16 in vr. It gives you a feel of what sitting in the cockpit is like and it’s completely unreal

      hey I'm thinking about playing this on VR but, do you know what does the base game includes?

    • @gavinbranch5467
      @gavinbranch5467 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@alejandrocastillo1325 you can play the base game on vr, it includes two maps and two planes. One of the planes is a p-51 without any weaponry (tf-51) and the other is a su-25 frog foot which has weaponry and is a capable ground attack aircraft. The tf-51 is a fully clickable cockpit so all the buttons and levers around you have functions and the su-25 is a low fidelity module so the cockpit isn’t clickable. The low fidelity’s are still very complex though and will take lots of time to learn how to become effective in. So all in all the base game offers a very good starting platform to test the waters and lets you go as far into the game as you want with the free maps and planes. Many multiplayer servers also operate on the base maps so that will be an option for you as well.

    Speaking as a Rift S user in DCS I can confirm that there is a zoom function. Go to Controls and the UI Level, and look for Toggle VR zoom. There are two levels - standard, which is handy for zooming in on instruments in the cockpit, and Spyglass which gives a decent level of external zoom. This is a much higher level of zoom than you demonstrated in your video.

      My problem is that when zooming in the quality of the image is highly deteriorated. Feels like its zooming in on the pre-rendered frames rather than actually rendering a zoomeed in frame.

    I switched to VR for ETS2 back in 2014/15 and was hooked. Had a relatively low end gaming rig and an Oculus DK2. 2010 i7, 8gb ram and a gt640 gpu. Had to use medium settings but I haven't gone back to pancake mode since.
    By the time I transitioned to DCS in 2018 my system was an i7 4790k at stock, 16gb ram Strix 1080 with a Rift CV1, on decent-ish settings. Obviously the were compromises such as It got a little heavy in the PG map but I had less issues with that setup than my current one with the Reverb G2.
    I sold my previous system with the CV1 for £600 so don't feel that cost is as prohibitive as it once was to get a good VR experience in DCS.

      @robertraman6307 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Flow-.- yes I uppgraded. The wait was long. But got it in February or so. It’s very good picture quality. Amazing. The difference between the Vive is very obvious. I had a really good head harness for the Vive and that was more adjustable and better if more than one would use the headset. My daugthers are a bit angry at the Reverb G2 head straps, it does not fit smaller head that well.
      You can read every button in the cockpits I’ve tried- F18,16,F14, the low fidelity models in flaming cliffs, the mig-15. So I can highly recommend it. I have a 10900K not overclocked and a 2080ti so I’m not sure if it will stutter a lot with slower systems but then you can tweak it

    Got the original Oculus CV1 for DCS. It was a game changer over Track IR or flying on a 2D screen alone. Waiting on my HP Reverb G2 for the improved visuals which the Oculus could not produce. Oculus had too much pixelization for objects at a distance. The VR experience was awesome however.

    • @marshal1808
      @marshal1808  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The VR technology in my opinion is still in R&D it’s still not very accessible and user friendly, so the newer headsets will be better for sure, games will also need to optimised better to suit VR. All the best.

    I love it. Went from Rift (1), which was low res, but great for low level sightseeing and especially heli flight practice. Now I have an Index and being able to gauge distance of your target, and where your tracers are going, really helps. I'm not gonna lie, it can take a lot of adjustments to get the framerate high enough... But there are alot of guide on how to do this for games in general, and DCS specifically.
    I also didn't like War Thunder much before, but using VR lets you maneuver much more easily, scissors and rolling scissors, etc are much more useful when you know (can feel) exactly where you are looking and the direction of your flight. So much easier to jink and avoid a foes line of fire, especially when you can dip below their field of view and make chaotic maneuvers while out of their sight.

    Quest 2 on i7 7700k, old 1060 OC 6GB version, running perfectly fine in Singleplayer. Multiplayer I think would be awful, but it's enough for me and hundred times better than flatscreen looking around imo.
    I think what VR in DCS needs most is a augmented reality mode. It's just not easily playable without a keyboard/ever seeing any keys, having a button to turn on a view of your keyboard, such as many vr apps already do, would make it so much better.

    Yes, a high end PC is necessary for VR, because each image now becomes two images that have to be calculated. One for the left eye and one for the right eye.
    By the way, if you want to record, save the flight as a track and record it "normally". This way you can change the perspective at any time.

    Got the HP Reverb G2, running on a rtx3080 and i7 10700k. It's as cool as I thought it would be, no question about it, however.... I study Physics full time at uni, and after graduation this year, I will likely continue my studies. First day I tried it, amazing, but I feel uncomfortable with the purchase... Honestly, feels like it was a waste of money. It might be because I don't play videogames so much (since I study abroad), but I also feel that when I put it on, I am isolating myself from everything around me, and.. I don't know... feels wrong.
    That's my take on VR at the moment, but I only used it for 1.5 hours really.

    • @yacobz
      @yacobz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know exactly what you mean. There's a feeling of guilt for me that comes with spending A LOT of money on the headset that I did, and then just putting it on "peace"-ing out from the entire world around me. It honestly feels escapist, which makes sense during the pandemic or winter months, but can be a dangerous thing outside of that.
      I'm getting into my mid 30s now, and at this point in my life, physical health is ESSENTIAL. Basically, your health in your 30s sets the stage for the rest of your life, and quite frankly, too much VR during spare moments of free time can easily take away from healthy outside activities. For someone like you at uni the same thing goes; your energy could be better spent elevating your station in life. But at the end of the day VR brings nothing but time-killing entertainment, and the onus is on US to be able to have the self-control to draw the line from empty fun, and self-improvement.

    On my 144 htz 1080 monitor with dcs settings on high to ultra, i get 140 to 180 fps on simple missions, the game looks great and runs like a dream. .( gpu temps are around 45 c)
    With the Reverb G2 plugged in and dcs set on medium settings. i get 30 to 40 fps if im lucky and everything outside the cockpit is blurred and draggy. ( the runway flag at Detling looks like 2 vertical yellow lines a foot apart with a yellow smudge connecting them and aircraft near or far, look like 2 focker triplanes had a mid air and kept on flying. (gpu temp is 70c). Sadly the G2 was my 1st VR experience and it hasnt yet been a good one so far.( NOT THE FAULT OF THE G2, more my rig being sub par). But I'm now left wondering whether to upgrade the pc to accomadate the g2 or just do without it. (the later would certainly be cheaper) .lol happy new year btw.

    A tip for your future dogfights, keep your airspeed up around 350-400kts IAS, don't just yank the stick back cause you'll bleed off all your energy and miss out on your optimal turn rate.. another thing you could use to your advantage is your TWR since it's higher in the Falcon.. either way, if you can maintain optimal turn rate you'll find that it's ridiculously easy to beat the Tomcat.. although if you go up against a human pilot, you may want to use your TWR advantage by sometimes extending because the Tomcat's turn radius can be very small when flaps are down, and on top of that the turn rate is still pretty high so that can cause you a lot of trouble if you purely focus on turn rate in the Falcon.. Hope this helps, good kill though ;)
    PS: what hardware are you using?

    I've been back and forth on getting VR lately. In the end, I decided that it wasn't worth the risk. An Oculus Quest 2 with an Elite strap and cable would cost me well over $500 CAD. Same with a Rift S.
    I have read too many comments and reviews from people that get motion sick from most of the games that I'd be interested in VR...flight sims, action (HL Alyx, Boneworks), and racing games (Dirt Rally 2). I also know a few people IRL (very few that have even tried VR really) and more than half of them got sick when trying the high-end demos that were set up in stores or at VR gaming centres. These places have them hooked to high-end PC rigs, so that isn't the issue.
    Of course people posting videos (and the VR boosters in the comments sections) are always downplaying it as they obviously aren't the ones experiencing it. To me, the chance of sickness relegating my $500 purchase to a doorstop, along with all the other downsides (low resolution and fidelity at the top of that list) keep me from buying. One day maybe they can overcome these hurdles and I'll take the risk.

    • @EazyE11
      @EazyE11 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are still in the same mindset I assure you VR is worth it. A few minutes in a headset is really not a complete assessment of what kind of experience you will have. With many people (myself included) when you first try it you will get a little disoriented until your brain adjust. This also happens when you first try to drive or fly in VR. Walking does it to and last at most a minute or 2. If worse and you actually get bad motion sickness the first time and have to stop as is what happened to my wife, you should be OK the next time. She does it now with no problem. I've had VR for 4yrs now and have no issues but of course everyone is different and there are an u lucky segment of the population who will get sick everytime.

      Most of my friends, that I try to get to come over for some VR, play so seldom that they often get short of breath or woozy after a 30min. session or so. You'll watch their sessions increase in duration at a fairly rapid pace, as long as they give it a chance, and don't push themselves.
      @Karl Hungus; I totally agree with @E's comment. I'll add that the tech that is 2 or maybe 3 years out is out of this world, such as brainwave detecting devices that recognize when you're looking at certain shapes and allows you to manipulate a particular object the shape is representative of... To call it telekinesis or mind-control would be hyperbole if you ask me, but it's still jaw-dropping in my opinion.

If you haven't tried IL2 in VR give it a try. Buy IL2 Battle of Bodenplatte and buy a premium plane (I recommend the P38). All for $20-25 and you will be in VR flying gaming bliss!

The FS202020 is not smooth when viewed through VR and is hard to feel 100% beautiful graphics in VR, but there is nothing better than VR in combat flight simulations that require a rapid change of view such as DCS and focus on combat than on the landscape. Hello Field Marshal, about the performance I have some advice's for weaker PC's
    -Install VR Shaders, it have a HUGE impact, I played DCS on 45FPS(enough) in acceptable settings with a GTX 1060. The Shaders cut out the corners that you don't see.
    Here is a Guide, th-cam.com/video/ZyrAIhXFpv0/w-d-xo.html
    -If you have high FPS on a stronger PC, you will still have short hard frame drops. The issue for this is that the software allows open FPS, but sometimes on high load it jumps to "fix 45FPS" Profile. This is the reason of these micro lag. To fix it, install "Oculus Debug Tool" and set "Asynchronous Spacewarp" to fix 45FPS. Yes you have "only" 45FPS than but the game is running extreme soothe.

    VR alone is not good without a good HOTAS. You need to be able to assign as many functions as possible because you lose a lot of your ability to point and click since it’s so difficult to judge the position of the mouse or keyboard.
    The virtual cockpit looks great, but it can be blurry, hard to see and difficult to adjust.
    DCS is way too complicated for most VR tasks.

    • @marshal1808
      @marshal1808  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I can only talk about the Oculus Rift S and that particular headset doesn't require any kind of wall mounted sensors to track the Head or Hand movements. The headset comes with sensors built into it that allow 6 point tracking and ofcourse it also come with the two hand controllers too. As for graphics and PC requirements it better to look at the headset website, but I am currently running a RTX 2070 Super and it feels like its not enough and it also depends on game optimization too. Some maps on DCS World are very nicely optimized for VR and some are not. Overall though its important to keep in mind that VR is still in a research and development phase it can be very tricky to setup and use daily, its buggy and it feels like its not prime time ready honestly. I have personally have been very impressed by DCS VR and won't ever want to play with TRACK IR again, but VR daily use is defiantly isn't as easy and comfortable. Hope that helped. All the best.

    Just some help with your dogfighting, you're much too slow in the F-16: try to stick to 350-450 knots IAS, also you have your geometry mixed up, the scissors is an example of a 1 circle geometey while a standard turn rate fight is a 2 circle geometry

      Hi, yes I knew I wasn't using the Viper incorrectly, but are you sure a standard turn fight is two circles? Anyways thank you for the feedback and thank you for watching.

      @@marshal1808 I'm 100% sure, I know its not very intuitive but the best way to know the difference is to look at the aircraft across from you and if their nose is point the opposite direction of yours you are in 2 circle, if they are pointed the same direction you are in 1 circle. It's based on flight paths from the merge. Just Google "dogfight geometry" and go to images and you should fine it and it will make more sense

      I will take your word for it. Thanks

    Just saying, if u want a rly good experience in VR, you would need about 90 fps which would be around 120 fps on a monitor, to achieve that u don't only need a good GPU and CPU but pretty decent RAM like 16 - 32 gigs of CL16 3600 mhz RAM (ik that 3600 mhz is expensive but cmon, u probably have a 2080 or 3080 so u can probably afford it)

      Not to worry, VR will be much better later on. Hopefully then you can have a good enough computer to enjoy an even better experience than now. Games are going to get better optimization for VR as well. All the best.

      That's something that is noticeable on screen replay but not really in the headset.
