It always sounds "finished" and never raw. That is both its' downfall and strength. Love it. I put it away a few years ago because I was composing too many things and it was a crutch.
Woody Dude! I can see from your expression you were enjoying playing this great little synth. I love the Wavestate, it is a synth like no other. It can even help music illiterates like me create beautiful-sounding melodies. I bought a mark I second-hand two years ago and enjoyed it sooo much I upgraded to the SE. You can get an immediate entry to cool playing sounds through the presets and set lists but when you get used to the menus and dive in there is a bottomless ocean of creative potential. It sits above my Polybrute in my set-up and gets a lot more play time, so satisfying.

Thanks Woody, inspired use of those presets and love your interpretations of the songs. Nice too to see the Wavestate being used for more than just ambient noodling…although it is very good for that! The desktop module paired with a good (multi-octave and aftertouch-enabled) controller keyboard is a great value alternative to the Wavestate SE.

Amazing how you matched all these songs to the wavestate 'weirdness'. There is no doubt the sounds from this machine are some of the most interesting and evolving ever. If only it had a better keybed. The 61 key version may well be worthwhile.
For a long time I had a Wavestation EX. Back then it was the best rompler. It was better than the M-1 and T-3 and the 01/W wasn't released yet. Roland had the D-70, but that has only a 15Khz sampling rate. I used the EX for every sound possible, and I recreated sounds from excisting songs. But I never used the Vector joystick. I tried it, but it involved the main volume of the sound, so it was unusable to me. The wavesequencing made a good auto-accompaniment though.
You have no idea how glad I am to find you; I am techno DJ Poducer and have always loved that 80s vibe nostalgia etc, going through a very hard time divorce etc! Got a few plugins, when I seen you video for best vst etc totally made my mind up diva is epic, take care and your music and videos are amazing 🤩
Nice demo! Some wonderful sounds on that thing. Didn't realise they released a firmware update that allows custom sample imports, that's a very powerful little device now! Edit: Looks like the sample import may be a Wavestate MkII only thing, didn't realise they released a new version
@@_mickmccarthy The only real upgrade is going from 64 voices to 96. And some new presets. The software update with the possibility to import samples, and a very usefull Wavestate editor librarian for your computer was realeased a couple of years before mk2. I love my WS :)

Woody! You’ve done it again! With your playing skills, the utterly amazing sounds produced and your sheer joy, another Wavestate is sold. I tried so hard to resist to no avail. Didn’t really try that hard to be honest. It’s winging its way here as I write. Will have to find room for it amongst the mountain of keyboards, guitars, amps, drum machines, etc. that I’ve acquired over the years. I’ve always had such a love of music all my life and getting new gear is so good, but becoming a little problematic lately. I think I might have a “buying too much equipment problem” though… My guitars will gently weep along with the neighbours when I put the Korg through its paces. Oh yes!!! You’re a star Woody. Keep it up. 👍

I had and opsix and I miss every bit of it. I had to sell it for financial reasons. If I get lucky enough to get it an opsix back to me or a wavestate, I would fight against a hurricane, a storm, just to keep them at home.

All the while korg has already been officially released as a VST plugin virtual instrument. Really hard to justify owning the hardware. The mod wave is the one to get in hardware form
i kinda disagree, when you can get the hardware used for just twice the price of the plugin, and this synth only shines with all those panel controls and vector stick. i have the software but it doesn't inspire in the same way, or have the immediacy
How do you make the sound of that synth full? The sound you get from the headphones output of the wave state is fuller than the sound you get from the audio output directly to the audio interface. Are missing plugins necessary? Compressor etc? Great video

have you compared this to the Roland n/zyme engine in the Fantom EX? I have many individual synths, and I'm trying to minimize what I need for a rig. I'm working to getting small keyboard rigs down to two keyboards, that I can mix and match: 1) a workstation / stage keyboard for almost everything 2) a lead / bass / secondary synth. For example, for #1, it's either my Hammond SKx + 25-note pedals, Roland EX or Korg Pa5X; for #2) it's my Arturia AstroLab or Roland AX-Edge, or soon to be Osmose.
nzyme wavetable synth, and nothing like the wave sequencing and vector synthesis on the korg, i don't have advice for you except for take your time and enjoy the hunt, often more fun than the destination!
Wonderful demo, but I need another keyboard like a need a hole in the head. I'll stick with my Wavestation SR, with the wonderful preset with which you can play 'Parla piu piano', the love theme from 'The Godfather'.
I opted for the Korg OPSIX intead of the wawestate - and got an Akai AX-73 under my Grandmother .... but this video GAS me for getting the Wawestate .... it REALLY sound beautiful,- - and theyre not too exspensive - i just wish they had a FATAR keybed instead of those plasticky p-LASTIC keys,-
Great sounds. Shame the 5 octave version is priced so high or it could compete with the entry level Montage and Fantom as a flexible synth workstation.

they do not have these sounds, although the sample engine has wave sequencing lite engine going on, but not in this league, and without the vector joystick!

Nicely played. And great, a song list. Please, please always make at least a short song list. I'm always wondering what song that was again 😉 . Not impressed with the Wavestate at all. I don't need sounds that play by themselves or have a lot of sound effects.
i often like to leave the viewers wondering about the song, but i sometimes make it too easy for you! luckily you don't have to use these sounds, can be as simple or complex as you desire
I love the Wavestate, but the preset list is definitely overly heavy on unique and not very usable patches. All the pieces are there to create great usable patches but it would have been nice to get a section of good basic synth sounds as presets.
@@georgenewman5860 yeah that' s all true, you have to invest a bit of time and create your own bank of performances to your taste, as you say all the samples and tools are in there.

Hi.....You play by hear. think the next step is to copy the rhymes, beats by ear........try playing shout by tear for fears rhyme by ear. Mybe rhymes is more diffucult lol.

I wish Korg had combined the Wavestate and the Modwave because the Wavestation was essentially a combination of the two.

Wavestate is a great inspirational tool, I just hated the short keybed so I replaced it with the plugin.
Have you tried the synth with an aftertouch keyboard yet? I imagine this synth could really make use of aftertouch.

they do not have these sounds, although the sample engine has wave sequencing lite engine going on, but not in this league, and without the vector joystick!

@@WoodyPianoShack Korg has a massive advantage with their architecture. Made the right decision long ago.
Really great sounds, but plasticky build quality (Minilogue is so much better), so-so knobs and buttons and keys, and cumbersome menu setup

Nicely played. And great, a song list. Please, please always make at least a short song list. I'm always wondering what song that was again 😉 . Not impressed with the Wavestate at all. I don't need sounds that play by themselves or have a lot of sound effects.
i often like to leave the viewers wondering about the song, but i sometimes make it too easy for you! luckily you don't have to use these sounds, can be as simple or complex as you desire
@@WoodyPianoShack Yes, I know 😀. I often despair at trying to figure out the song. Sometimes it's very tricky.
I love the Wavestate, but the preset list is definitely overly heavy on unique and not very usable patches. All the pieces are there to create great usable patches but it would have been nice to get a section of good basic synth sounds as presets.
@@georgenewman5860 yeah that' s all true, you have to invest a bit of time and create your own bank of performances to your taste, as you say all the samples and tools are in there.
@@WoodyPianoShack Yep and I am enjoying doing so. It is educational and fun but it does take a time commitment for those who don't have much experience doing it.
Hi.....You play by hear. think the next step is to copy the rhymes, beats by ear........try playing shout by tear for fears rhyme by ear. Mybe rhymes is more diffucult lol.
