EPIC INFINITY COMPONENT SPEAKER INSTALL - FACTORY FIT & FINISH!!

  • In this video I show how I was able to install an Infinity Primus 6510CS component speaker system into my 1995 GMC Suburban. The install went great and I was able to use all the factory mounting locations to keep everything looking completely stock. There is some custom work involved but it certainly was rewarding. If you've been thinking about replacing your factory speakers with a component set this video may help you to see what's involved.

    Good Video.
    1 Mistake : You should have re-used the foam ring that was on the stock or use an after market one. Makes a world of difference in terms of bass response. Consider sound deadening the door and trim. It makes a lot of difference.

    Those puppies are nice speakers! But if they’re not hooked to an amp they’ll only be getting 15 Watts a speaker! I do painting n car audio at the hot rod shop so let me know if I can assist ya man! I’m putting a baby system in my 95 Tahoe this week! 4 6.5s ,tweeters up front, 8” sub and a 900watt 5 channel amp. I can get ya a good deal on top notch equipment that’s budget friendly. Your speakers are 80 Watts rms so 15 Watts isn’t even close to potential. Man, I wish the Primus or even Reference Infinity components came at lower than 4ohm, like the Kappas. I'm not spending $400 on a 4 channel amp, then only using half it's capability (most only produce full power at 2ohm). So, now I'm having to spend double on the Infinity Kappa components just so I take advantage of the 2.5ohm resistance of those speakers, but then those are some of the best speakers on the market and will take the 120W power I will give them via 2.5ohm!! Better than the 60W the Primus would take from my Fosgate!
    Great work tho!

    clean job,not hating number one.....great diy how to,except for a few things... to save time, you can use the speaker wires for the input of the crossover that is connected to the factory speaker(assuming that it is full range signal..a very rudimentary way of testing,you can test this by hooking a speaker up to it and playing the radio to it and listening for a full range of sound). Thus saving time cutting factory electrical tape to find the connection. POLARITY POLARITY POLARITY... assuming you have full range signal for the crossover, the next step is to make sure you wire it in the correct polarity, meaning positive to positive and negative to negative.. an easy way to do this is with and tone generator/popper, but if you dont have one, a 9 volt battery will work too.. cut the factory plug off and connect to the stock speaker, strip both wires a little bit and touch one to the negative of the battery and the other to the positive of the 9 volt battery(observing which wire touches the positive terminal of the battery.and if the speaker moves out of the frame away from the magnet,thats your positive color...and if it move towards the magnet its your negative) other than that you did a bang up job..alot better than some "professionals" in the car audio industry...i do installs like this 5 days a week, its kinda my job...i believe on your truck its "lights up front and darks in the rear" referring to the positive speaker wires in the doors..i may be mistaken though, thats why you gotta check!!

    THEORETICALLY, paper sounds the most natural-sounding to the human ear, however that's about as far as it can go sometimes, especially when we're talking about OEM stuff. Nowadays, they're about as thick as *two* paper plates now.
    As far as that frame that makes the original speaker, you can use that as a frame if need be. There's just some cutting and filing that need to happen.

    I'm in the process of upgrading my speakers in my Trailblazer (when the weather warms up at least). I very quickly figured out that an amp is a must for any sort of volume and also some sound treatment for the doors and a 'woofer ring' (or whatever they are that 'seal' your woofer to your door panel) significantly increase clarity and mid-bass. Otherwise, it's kinda like dropping some sticky tires on a stock civic without any suspension, engine, or chassis mods and wondering why you're not winning any races. I figure I might as well do it right the first time, so I'm just gonna do all of those things in one shot instead of having to take the doors and dash all apart again.

    Btw, guys doing this, you dont have to splice into it this way. Just buy a clip-on harness for the factory plug (plugs into each factory speaker plug) then add a small lenght of wire from the (two new) + and - leads and that goes straight to the crossover main inputs. If you just disconnect or cut the + and - from the factory tweeters, itll be fine, same thing but cleaner. So factory + and - to crossovers, then crossovers to 6.5" and tweeters.

      One thing I noticed when I went to install the speakers is that the tweeters they give you in the package look exactly the same diameter as the ones that originally came with the truck. So instead of getting out the Dremel tool and modifying one of the adapters that comes with the speakers like Jimmy does in this video, I'm just going to grab a pair of tweeters off a truck at the junkyard and remove the OEM tweeters. (Just so I have a set of backup parts.) I bet the new tweeters will fit right in the plastic holder where the originals live. Will probably require very little modification, and the tweeter mounting housing just snaps/rotates into place. Very easily accessible, too, you don't even have to take the main interior door panel off, just the little panel with the door locks and window controls on it.

    I'm confused. Did it come with 2 crossovers? Or do you run the wires from the passenger door all the way over to the driver door and connect them there too? I'm trying to figure one of these out I've never dealt with a crossover situation before..

    • @rekless87
      @rekless87 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Each speaker has a tweeter and a crossover, so 2 crossovers.

    Still wondering if i must go with infinity kappa reference, pioneer or hertz speakers for clear and loud voice.

    • @Ozmandius
      @Ozmandius 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hertz is another ballpark.
      My suggestion from. Years of doing this and trying to push bias out of my mind... Spend about $100 to $125 on a set of components from any company that doesn't charge out triple for a name (like Fosgate). RE, skar, soundqubed, infinity kappa, pioneer, cadence, etc etc.

    Hey, this was a really great video for DYI and full of practical advice. Getting a new head unit will certainly change everything about the sound. I did this for a living and factory speakers are abominations. Getting even modestly priced speakers is a big boost in quality and I think you did a great service to anyone thinking of upgrading. May you always love your new sound and love the fact that you did it yourself.

    Nice work man!! 👌 That being said, you should put lot of good clean power to them from an amp, to get their fullest potential. You'll really hear the difference. Trust me.
