    1.3 TCE is a good and beloved little engine so far by many :)
    The concern in the long run would be the technological complexity in its construction.
    They've adopted the ideas from Formula 1 with their Bore Spray Coating on the cylinder walls for extremely low frictions
    While on older cars if you got severe problems with wear around oil rings and oil consumption, you could rebuild the engine and re-bore the cylinders walls to a little larger size and continue to drive it at least as much the original engine lasted.
    But on this nobody has the equipment to do such things, and affordably.
    Time will tell.
    Let's hope Mercedes knew why they considered the same engine on some of their cars, instead of developing one from scratch

      I read that oil changes every 15.000 kms will pretty much keep it going. But they tested it up to 300.000 effortlessly. Im getting a Dacia Duster with this engine because this one seems the only modern one designed to last

    • @sebastianonita4870

      I think both are great options, if you are interested in fuel economy and decent power.
      1.5 DCI Diesel is 115 HP
      1.3 TCE Gasoline is 116 HP - 140HP, but has awesome torque (220 NM) which makes it "feel like a diesel"
      1.0 TCE Gasoline is 90 - 100 HP, but only 3 cilinders, so you have to rev it higher sometimes
      For 1.3 TCE I have gotten 5 L / 100 km at 70-80 km/h long trips (and NOT driving at too low RPM)
      With some frequent city driving it still is 6.5 - 7 L / 100 km
      Convert these to your equivalent MPG, they are what the car measures itself (may be a little optimistic vs real world)
      Unfortunately both have particulate filters to comply with Euro6 standards - so in the long run needs attention
      1.5 Diesel may feel familiar to your Clio.
      Just test drive a few if you can before buying to see what you like :)

      If buying new I'd still prefer to use a cheap 10w40 mineral oil for the first 1000 miles to bed the cylinder rings in, them swap for a synthetic no lighter than 0w30.
      A lot of makers say 0w20, I'll never use it unless I'm driving urban only(50kph max) in the siberian midWinter, is thinner than water and will just evaporate away in European summer or high speed/uphill driving.

      Should last very well with a synthetic. I find 0w40, 5w30 or 5w40 the best once the engine has worn in. Engines given thinner than 0w40 or 5w30 beyond their first couple of years will have worn cam lobes, crank bearings and leaky pistons in no time.
      But of course you want the engine to wear in a bit for the first 10k miles.
      Avoid the heavy cold-weights like 10w and 15w or you'll starve the turbo on cold starts.

    • @Sroty5
      @Sroty5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Both are more reliable. 1.0 and 1.3 are basically new engines. Temperature management has been reworked. Exhaust downtakes are now cooled which means no more problems with a gas in an oil tank. The problem you refer was caused by just that. The weaken oil damaged cylinders stepwise so the engine consumed oil fast at its the very end. This is solved now.

    • @Hp5550dj
      @Hp5550dj 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The oil problem with old 1.2 TCE engines was fixed already in the year 2016, because i have this engine made on april 2016 and in 112000 km done with it, it doesn't conusme any oil, i cange oil on 15000 km, no matter that interval is on 30000 km, because i think its too long interval and oil gets too much wasted

    • @Sroty5
      @Sroty5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Hp5550dj You are wrong. The problem was not fixed but minimized in last version of the engine 1.2 TCE H5F4. How exactly I dont know. But you simply cant fix the problem in the engine construction. It had to be reworked and rebuild - the result is 1.3 TCE. If you dont have the problem, good for you. But the problem still exists. The major oil consumption is the very end of the engine life. It means the cylynders are damaged and engine fails soon. Check the French initiative about 1.2 TCE problems. There are hundreds of cases 1.2TCE engine fails (casse-moteur-renault.weebly.com/cas_litiges_plaintes.html)

      5.4L says on paper. Almost 5L without oil filter, and closer to 6L with it (not sure exactly).
      Manual says 5w30, 0w30 or 0w20 depending on different temperature ranges.
      But it recommends the new Renault RN17 (FE) oil certification, because emissions and gasoline particulate filter.
      For example Ravenol has a dedicated 5w30 RNV exactly for this.
      Whatever you use, dont risk it, change around 10000km (15 max) and should be good :)

    So this is the one with all the modern tech. Why did you waste everyone's time and the environment with the 1.0?

    • @sebastianonita4870

      Well, it makes sense to offer the smaller 1.0 in different markets - while also being able to charge less for the price of the car (cough cough haha).
      Keep in mind that since the 1.0 is still MPI (no direct injection) you can switch it to LPG without issues.

      So, after driving this "value car" for about half an hour, I'm really confused. The 1,33 TCe engine with 130 hp isn't comparable with my actual 5-cylinder Volvo 2,0 litre Diesel engine with 136 hp. I'm actually driving a V70. The Volvo engine has 330 Nm torque.
      The little Renault engine has 230 or 240 Nm.
      OK, the VOLVO is 200kgs heavier than the Dacia, but the Dacia accelerates like cracy without any
      turbo lag. (I know what I'm talking about, because I've had SAAB and Volvo turbocharged cars for long times). You can shift at 2000 rpm or rev it up to 5000 or more. Stunning engine in a - honestly - quite loud car. I'm not talking about engine noise. Probably the Continental Summer tyres increase noise, but i'm sure with a lbit homework (damping), you can create a reliable car.
