    This old footage is of gem quality when you think of the technology back then. Houdini was and is a true master of his craft. He was a "money generating machine". His work was historically significant in that he paved new roads into the world of deception and imaginative entertainment.
    A marvelous example of his early work. Such a unique character.

      For the time...there were no comparisons. He would charm the audiences and make lots of money in doing so. People now a days revert to television and other media for their "Escape" from reality. Back then you had the likes of Harry Houdin. Yes, ....his real name was not Houndini. Anyway, Harry Houdini was a great showman in direct competition with the movie industry and stage. Back when showmanship was in it's infancy. Great job Harry. You live forever in our humble hearts.💝

    some years ago I had some business in Appleton Wisconsin and ran across the Houdini Museum. i’ll never forget one quote from him, “it’s not just the wonder of an illusion that the magician must create; even more important is the charm of his personality.“

    • @Uriah625
      @Uriah625 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Houdini considered Appleton his hometown, even though he wasn’t born there. His name is used for a few things: Houdini Elementary School, Houdini’s Bar, and Houdini Plaza. Oddly, I do not believe there is a street named after him though.

    Houdini had several ways to escape from handcuffs:
    1 - Hitting the handcuffs: He could hit the handcuffs at a certain angle and with enough force to spring them open.
    2 - Using a string: He could use a thin piece of string to pull a screw from the locking mechanism.
    3 - Using a key: He could hide a skeleton key in his palm or sleeve.
    Houdini also escaped from the Washington, D.C. jail that once held Charles Guiteau, the assassin of President James A. Garfield.

    We used to call my dog houdini because she would escape from any fence gate or crate you’d put her in. She actually still escapes and you just find her out but don’t know how she did it

    What’s really cool about this footage is that if you look really closely at 1:24 towards the top of the screen, there is a man who has handcuffs on his wrists and he is jumping off of the bridge.

    I don’t like people that give you stuff but still don’t treat you right and in order to gain control over you. I’d rather not have whatever that is. I have a friend that remains friends with people because they like to give (she says giving is a cherished act of kindness) but they don’t treat her right. I tell her “look at it as a hierarchy, you look at how people treat you first before you consider the gifts they give you).
