  • In this video we had an epic day in the local southern California mountains heading out into the fresh snow. My buddy Sam from Deadman Offroad came with me to teach me his off road recovery skills and show me the equipment. We got stuck multiple times pushing through feet of snow on our way up the mountain. We aired down our 37" tires, engaged the locking differentials and plowed our way through the deep snow. Along the way we used MaxTrax recovery boards, Deadman soft shackles, Warn Winches, synthetic winch line, Factor55 hardware and our Crazy Beaver shovel. We eventually made our way back down the mountain after losing our forward progress to the overwhelming amounts of snow. I sent my drone up for some amazing shots on the way down.

    What PSI were you running? Sorry if I missed that answer in the video.

      I don’t know if we specifically said, can’t remember but I’m around 18 and I think Sam is down around 15.

      @@prospectoverland gotcha, we typically run around 15psi but the snow wheeling clubs in our area swear by 8-10psi even without beadlocks. With the Maxtrax we've found that one pair helps up to the point where your rear diff gets buried, after that you really need two sets to have any shot at getting out.

    What day did you do this run, we might have been up there shortly after you that weekend

      It was a few Fridays back. Rangers closed the trail just after us so must have been a different area.

    What I would like to know is are you in park or just a parking brake when winching?

    • @greatcrossings
      @greatcrossings ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, he is in neutral shift with foot on the brake, the e brake or emergency brake could be on or off.

    Wow! Really great information in this video.
    If you could only afford one, would it be a winch or rear locker?

    • @prospectoverland

      Awesome glad you liked it.
      Just my personal opinion…locker. A kinetic rope is cheap in comparison to a winch and a buddy with another vehicle can you out of a lot of stuff that way. But I’m sure there is plenty of arguments for the other way.

    Did you regear? If so, what gear ratio and did you do front and rear. I see you did a rear locker.

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah got 5.29 nitro gears from SDHQ front and rear and a Eaton E Locker in the rear only. I’ve heard the front drive line of the Tundras are a little weak for the size of the truck so when you add a front locker they run the risk of break. The read ends are tanks though.

      @@prospectoverland
      Thanks! I'm going to go 5.29's and wished they made a truetrac, so I'm on the fence regarding a locker. I currently don't do anything crazy, so it would be just an expensive insurance policy.
