Thanks for the compliment mate. Melbournian's are justifiably proud of their tram network. Largest in the Southern Hemisphere I believe and it has been in continuous operation since it started with horse drawn trams and then under the road cable trams and finally to electric.

It seems strange not to mention Lisbon, if speaking of the most EPIC trams. Innsbruck is remarkable by two tram lines extending into suburbs high up into mountain valleys. Karlsruhe boasts 'hybrid' trams switching from city streets to railway tracks to run there as commuter trains in the railway environment.
The iconic Tatra T3 definitely belongs on the list, it will never go out of style. I'd pic Škoda 15 T as the most interesting and innovative modern tram. It's offers much more than a snazzy exterior - it's a novel approach, unlike anything else on the market. I'm sure it has its fare share of flaws, but I like new ways of thinking.
I also love T15 very much but the most innovative modern tram is undoubtedly a Siemens Ulf ;) Thou T15 are more balanced fof cost/effectiveness but even that didn't help it to stay on market, alas

For me, it's PCC-derived trams (like Tatra T3, Konstal 13N, Konstal X02Na, Viennese E- and C-series (E1+C1, E1+C2, E1+C3 (latter set formation retired in Vienna and introduced in Krakow as a second hand sets (because of that, these cities have their corporation agreement))), as well, as Pesas (notably Twist, especially those delivered to Krakow, in which, as a fun fact, one of sets (RG914, the highest number of those delivered into Nowa Huta depot) has a WYD 2016 yellow-white painting, which, commemorates the Pope Francis' ride to Błonia Meadows and has this edition's motto in 8 languages (four per side, two per section, of which polish, english, french, spanish, italian, etc.), it was proposed, that RG908 will have this painting, but, unfortunately, this tram was in reserve).
What, no mention of Melbourne, with it's beautiful E class trams, plus the other classes including our much loved and famous W class trams. Plus the variety of street scapes the trams travel along and through the beautiful city of Melbourne, there should be no contest. No 1 on all counts.
No mention of Melbourne b/c Northern Hemisphere people don't even recognise the Southern Hemisphere. Even restricting themselves to Europe and the U.S., this list ignores San Francisco's trolleys with their classic lines.

This tram line is not part of the Berlin tram network. Meter gauge instead of standard gauge. It is also barely in Berlin at all. Only the first 600 meters of this line are in Berlin, the remaining 13 km are outside of Berlin. The shown tram is a DUEWAG GT6 which was used before in Heidelberg.

Hy from Hungary! I missed the old red trams from Prague, charming small waggons from Lisboa. HongKong double decker maybe not nice but really unique. Similar in San Francisco, which is a cable car, and not a real tram.
Fun fact: As well as Edinburgh, The CAF Urbos 3 tram is also currently used on the Birmingham - Wolverhampton route in England. There, it is known as the Midland Metro.
As a Belgian, tbh I like the one we have in Brussels. They look nice and the older versions (slightly vintage, doesn’t operate normally and operates during the summer but it doesn’t go all the time unlike the others.)

I think that they are ugly utilitarian holdovers from the past, whereas C, D, and E classes are much better in terms of beauty, safety, and accessibility. @@CloudWarrior904, maybe it has something to do with our respective ages. You sound like a feisty youngish bloke, whereas I'm a crusty old bloke who rode to school on the W class trams. Polished wooden interior, a peephole so you could watch the driver and imagine your older self driving. The sound of the air compressor repressurising the braking system, the clang of the bell and the different rings the conductor would make according to the situation -- my favourite was the three sharp rings to signal to the driver that a crash stop was required. The warmth of the inside cabins at both ends, complete with sliding glass doors and the sense of speed when sitting in the centre section (before they enclosed them, they were often open to the elements, especially in summer.) I guess beauty is function to some, and others see beauty in experience.

I am not all that young, as I am on the wrong side of 50, and I also can remember a time when W Class were all over the system along with the Z class. There were no A, B, C, D, or E class in the system. Also, I worked on Melbourne's trains as a guard in the first half of the 90s as a young man, and a lot of things were similar between trains and trams. Guards used bells to communicate with the driver, although three bells were to move the train backwards, and an emergency stop was a series of very fast more than four rings. As for beauty, I just don't see it in older designs. whereas I see much beauty in the newer designs and Melbourne's current fleet of C,D, and E class trams to me are a thing of beauty, but as I stated previously each to his own and more power to us all. PS. I have always preferred modern contemporary designs over older ones.
You should add Hong Kong, with its double decker trams, each with a different full-body advertisement. I second the addition of Lisbon. Here in San Francisco, we have an entire fleet of PCCs, each painted with the livery of a city that once ran them.
Unfortunately the video doesn‘t quite explain this “Berlin” system well enough. It’s not actually part of Berlin’s tram system at all. It’s a totally separate line running on metre gauge (as opposed to standard gauge used in Berlin) and is operated by a different company. It only briefly runs into Berlin to connect with the S-Bahn (urban rail). The operator of the tram route is SRS, or “Schöneiche-Rüdersdorfer Straßenbahn”.
I like most #2 to #5 with preference to the old Boston PCCs (#4), but there are still missing a lot of trams, for example the Lissabon line #28, the trams of Prague, Venice-Mestre or Stuttgart to name a few.

Stuttgart. Standard gauge normal tramways and meter gauge oldtimer tramways which ride on Sundays and some holidays only. Therefore are on some lines still mixed gauges and the platforms at these stops are divided in a higher and lower level for entering both types. Specially the route up to the TV tower on the heights of Degerloch.
as a philadelphian i gotta say philly pccs would have been a better inclusion than boston. i know theyve been retrofitted with modern internals but a pcc street running in a major us city on a 9 (!!!) mile route is crazy

Well, maybe next time...... On the other hand, I support the comment posted by PEETIEYOU; it would be a good idea to devide the video in modern and classic style trams. And regarding the CANUNDRUM SIXNINE comment..... yes, I also like the Toyama Trams very much and I would also like to have looked them here.
A wonderful compilation. Many thanks. They are all good looking except for no 10 - the Dubai trams. I also would add the Tatra T3 cars. Also consider the PCC cars from Brussels and Gent. And then there is the charming four wheelers from Lisbon! The most beautiful? Of the latest generation - I would say the Marseilles trams.
I like the old trams with the diamond pantographs. Also re PCC cars San Francisco has off cars on there F line, the cars are in all major liveries of where they were used in the US
@@RaymondHng I went on the San Francisco street cars in 2019. You never knew what car would turn up next, some glorious liveries, I liked the Philidelphia colours of dark blue and silver. Also got travel on the ex Blackpool boat team.

I’m obviously extremely biased, but I think Toronto‘s CLRVs could have made the list if they were still in service. This city lost a bit of its character when they were retired.
And what were your criteria in evaluating these trams ? And how do you define "beautiful" ? Perhaps you should do a list of your top modern tram systems and then another list of the older ones. I liked the one in Boston although it certainly doesn't rate as beautiful.
For those in the New York City area who wish to experience what a tram is like without the expense and difficulty of traveling far and wide, there are two nearby options, both in nearby New Jersey: 1. The Newark Light Rail system (formerly the Newark City Subway), although it recently replaced its classic PCC cars (due to inability to obtain parts) with state of the art ones- still a cool ride from Newark Penn Station to the city line; attractions include Branch Brook Park in which you'll see Cherry Blossoms bloom in springtime, and 2. The newly built Waterfront Light Rail System which runs, I believe, between Bayonne and Hoboken (not sure as I've only rode part of this line so far and it's still being expanded). You will have the tram experience along with spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline!...
I know the Edinburgh tram mainly from Forza Horizon 4. I'm amazed that the real one sounds just like it does in the game, yet I'm stunned they messed up the Flying Scotsman so badly.
I grew up with that 2800 series used in Turin, I'm still tryna figuring out if I like them or not but I think they look pretty classic, the seats are horrible tho

Me too brian, but the Witts have their growly charm. Spent the day on 2766 to, from and through the Easter parade in the Beach one year, just soaking up the sounds and vibrations. Yes too, when the subway shuts down for inexplicable reasons I despair that the busiest streetcar line in the world, the MU trained PCC equipped Bloor Danforth is no longer with us. Yes PCC means streetcar. And if you've been riding our new Flexities, well, how slooowww can you go eh? The PCCs could run the route twice while the low floors are still working their doors. Sheesh!
The one in Rio de Janeiro is more beautiful than the one in Marseille and the city too. In the VLT, energy is conducted by the APS (Ground Powered) system, a third rail located between the train's running tracks that is energized only in contact with the trains and guarantees safety in addition to less impact on the urban landscape.
THE most beautiful trams are the Manx Electric Railway cars built in 1893 running between Douglas and Laxey, numbers 1 to 4. And I agree with the comment below that Lisbon trams should be high on the list. Bordeaux should be in there, with their single headlight, and Innsbruck trams to Fulpmes are pretty special too. The Strasbourg teams look horrible, a cross between a frog and that slumpy character in Star Wars.
In my opinion, Seattle light rail is one of the most beautiful, even the new Siemens S700 arriving recently. I like the wave paint job on the trains. “Ride the wave”
I would have liked to see some trams from Japan. Specifically the LEX From Hiroshima and the Toyama PORTRAM Perhaps the Los Angeles Metro Gold Line, and the San Jose VTA Light Rail.

For example; type "n scale coffee table design" into TH-cam (or Google) search engine and you will get several good examples of very small (but beautiful) layouts that will inspire you. Another good idea is to build a modular layout with a few friends, each of whom can build one or two small mobile modules that can be assembled in a public place or someone's house with enough space. Have you heard of T- Trak? ntrak.org/T-TRAK is a good place to start. Or, again, search for T-Trak on TH-cam and Google. And if you choose trams for modeling, you can fit them into a space even smaller than the space needed for trains (there are several japanese brands that produce trams... you can start here: www.1999.co.jp/eng/rail/ ). Just don't give up! I would like to see your very own tram layout here in TH-cam very soon....
Strassburg! The best! Having said that, I am surprised that you didn't mention the trams of Melbourne, Sydney, and Praha! Also: LA to San Diego, San Fransisco, and Lison. And the cable car of Wellington.
Melbourne in Australia yes, but not Sydney as Sydney has beautifully French designed and built trams but are covered in advertising which detracts from their beauty. Also, to build the line to the south east 1,000+ beautiful trees were removed creating an urban desert. Unlike France, the car was not confronted in Sydney and the overall result has been failure.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great set of trams. But just among cities I've been to? (And I don't consider myself *that* well travelled.) LIsbon, San Francisco, Milan, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Bordeaux, could easily equal most of these.
My country used to have trams until the mid 90s, sadly bus companies overtook and it got shotdown. I just hope one day my city returns to the usage of trams as a very eficient mean of massive transportation.
I liked the Edinburgh trams and the Düwags at the outskirts of Berlin (SRS). I like the new Skoda trams in Tampere, which I was able to test yesterday, and the Artic trams in Helsinki.
I consider the most beautiful tram system in Liberec, Czech Republic. Mainly because of the line to Jablonec nad Nisou, it´s just tram in the valley of a mountain river

But if a new list is drawn up, I will see the Coast Tram in Belgium for the length of the line along the sea. Berlin's main work (standard gauge) is exciting because of its history between East and West. I will add the Basel tram to my home🇨🇭 for its denser network despite not being a megalopolis and there have been very few line cuts throughout its timeline. I would also see Melbourne, Bordeaux, Reims, many German networks, etc. Anyway, the tram is always beautiful, whatever the model of railway vehicle used🤩

Bordeaux and Luxembourg have very attractive vehicles but, in my view, the classic European trams are TatraT3s and Konstal105n ‘Aquariums.’

You should add Hong Kong, with its double decker trams, each with a different full-body advertisement. I second the addition of Lisbon. Here in San Francisco, we have an entire fleet of PCCs, each painted with the livery of a city that once ran them.
The Manx Electric Railway is pretty amazing, with cars from 1893 still operating on a very scenic route.
Loved the 'classic' styling of the Boston and Berlin trams.
Unfortunately the video doesn‘t quite explain this “Berlin” system well enough. It’s not actually part of Berlin’s tram system at all. It’s a totally separate line running on metre gauge (as opposed to standard gauge used in Berlin) and is operated by a different company. It only briefly runs into Berlin to connect with the S-Bahn (urban rail). The operator of the tram route is SRS, or “Schöneiche-Rüdersdorfer Straßenbahn”.

In this list definitely missing is the CAF Urbos 3 from Luxembourg, with one of the most iconic designs for a modern streetcar vehicle
In my opinion Woltersdorf near Berlin has the most beautiful trams in Germany
Woltersdorf uses similar trams than the Kirnitzschtalbahn. Both are Gotha/LEW.
I like most #2 to #5 with preference to the old Boston PCCs (#4), but there are still missing a lot of trams, for example the Lissabon line #28, the trams of Prague, Venice-Mestre or Stuttgart to name a few.

Stuttgart. Standard gauge normal tramways and meter gauge oldtimer tramways which ride on Sundays and some holidays only. Therefore are on some lines still mixed gauges and the platforms at these stops are divided in a higher and lower level for entering both types. Specially the route up to the TV tower on the heights of Degerloch.
as a philadelphian i gotta say philly pccs would have been a better inclusion than boston. i know theyve been retrofitted with modern internals but a pcc street running in a major us city on a 9 (!!!) mile route is crazy

A wonderful compilation. Many thanks. They are all good looking except for no 10 - the Dubai trams. I also would add the Tatra T3 cars. Also consider the PCC cars from Brussels and Gent. And then there is the charming four wheelers from Lisbon! The most beautiful? Of the latest generation - I would say the Marseilles trams.
I like the old trams with the diamond pantographs.
Also re PCC cars San Francisco has off cars on there F line, the cars are in all major liveries of where they were used in the US

I’m obviously extremely biased, but I think Toronto‘s CLRVs could have made the list if they were still in service. This city lost a bit of its character when they were retired.

And what were your criteria in evaluating these trams ? And how do you define "beautiful" ? Perhaps you should do a list of your top modern tram systems and then another list of the older ones. I liked the one in Boston although it certainly doesn't rate as beautiful.

For those in the New York City area who wish to experience what a tram is like without the expense and difficulty of traveling far and wide, there are two nearby options, both in nearby New Jersey: 1. The Newark Light Rail system (formerly the Newark City Subway), although it recently replaced its classic PCC cars (due to inability to obtain parts) with state of the art ones- still a cool ride from Newark Penn Station to the city line; attractions include Branch Brook Park in which you'll see Cherry Blossoms bloom in springtime, and 2. The newly built Waterfront Light Rail System which runs, I believe, between Bayonne and Hoboken (not sure as I've only rode part of this line so far and it's still
being expanded). You will have the tram experience along with spectacular view of the Manhattan skyline!...
The PCCs in Newark were retired 20 years ago and there is nothing “state of the art” in the LRT cars that replaced them (Kinki Sharyo LRVs)
I know the Edinburgh tram mainly from Forza Horizon 4. I'm amazed that the real one sounds just like it does in the game, yet I'm stunned they messed up the Flying Scotsman so badly.
What about the classic 1500-series trams of Milan?

I grew up with that 2800 series used in Turin, I'm still tryna figuring out if I like them or not but I think they look pretty classic, the seats are horrible tho

Yes too, when the subway shuts down for inexplicable reasons I despair that the busiest streetcar line in the world, the MU trained PCC equipped Bloor Danforth is no longer with us.

The one in Rio de Janeiro is more beautiful than the one in Marseille and the city too. In the VLT, energy is conducted by the APS (Ground Powered) system, a third rail located between the train's running tracks that is energized only in contact with the trains and guarantees safety in addition to less impact on the urban landscape.

THE most beautiful trams are the Manx Electric Railway cars built in 1893 running between Douglas and Laxey, numbers 1 to 4. And I agree with the comment below that Lisbon trams should be high on the list. Bordeaux should be in there, with their single headlight, and Innsbruck trams to Fulpmes are pretty special too. The Strasbourg teams look horrible, a cross between a frog and that slumpy character in Star Wars.

For example; type "n scale coffee table design" into TH-cam (or Google) search engine and you will get several good examples of very small (but beautiful) layouts that will inspire you. Another good idea is to build a modular layout with a few friends, each of whom can build one or two small mobile modules that can be assembled in a public place or someone's house with enough space. Have you heard of T- Trak? ntrak.org/T-TRAK is a good place to start. Or, again, search for T-Trak on TH-cam and Google. And if you choose trams for modeling, you can fit them into a space even smaller than the space needed for trains (there are several japanese brands that produce trams... you can start here: www.1999.co.jp/eng/rail/ ). Just don't give up! I would like to see your very own tram layout here in TH-cam very soon....

Having said that, I am surprised that you didn't mention the trams of Melbourne, Sydney, and Praha! Also: LA to San Diego, San Fransisco, and Lison. And the cable car of Wellington.
Melbourne in Australia yes, but not Sydney as Sydney has beautifully French designed and built trams but are covered in advertising which detracts from their beauty. Also, to build the line to the south east 1,000+ beautiful trees were removed creating an urban desert. Unlike France, the car was not confronted in Sydney and the overall result has been failure.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great set of trams. But just among cities I've been to? (And I don't consider myself *that* well travelled.) LIsbon, San Francisco, Milan, Amsterdam, Brussels, and Bordeaux, could easily equal most of these.
My country used to have trams until the mid 90s, sadly bus companies overtook and it got shotdown. I just hope one day my city returns to the usage of trams as a very eficient mean of massive transportation.
I liked the Edinburgh trams and the Düwags at the outskirts of Berlin (SRS). I like the new Skoda trams in Tampere, which I was able to test yesterday, and the Artic trams in Helsinki.

Of these 10 magnificent trams, my preference would be Strasbourg.
But if a new list is drawn up, I will see the Coast Tram in Belgium for the length of the line along the sea.
Berlin's main work (standard gauge) is exciting because of its history between East and West.
I will add the Basel tram to my home🇨🇭 for its denser network despite not being a megalopolis and there have been very few line cuts throughout its timeline.
I would also see Melbourne, Bordeaux, Reims, many German networks, etc.
Anyway, the tram is always beautiful, whatever the model of railway vehicle used🤩
The old-school trams are the best.
