PSA's issues are what any of the grading companies would face if they expanded to the same degree, meaning that if anyone knocks them off the top they'll go through the same growing pains. One tip if you submit to them is try to include stuff that a manager would assign to a more experienced grader. Even though each card is reviewed by an experienced grader, they're doing reviews for multiple graders, and it takes longer to bump a card's grade than to lower it (the former requires going through the full grading process...unlikely to happen for every 9 in your order). So if you get an insecure grader, you're probably screwed.

Yeah the hit or miss on who your grader is can make a big difference unfortunately. I'm ready for our AI overlords to take over and simplify the process

I currently have an sub at psa and it’s already been 2 weeks on order has arrived status. But I’m giving sgc a try since the slabs do look much nicer! I sent about 20 cards to sgc and looking forward to them coming back!

Yeah I have one that's the same situation. I was talking to someone earlier this week who has had stuff that is marked arrived but hasn't been processed for 6 weeks!!

@@CleverCubanCards its tough bc if im willing to pay an amount that equals a few boxes of something like this but could also be spent on, say a case of topps update hobby...i have to choose the latter.

i am not convinced that graders like SGC wont see their value normalize with the likes of PSA. SGC and others are stepping up their game for a reason, and that reason is that PSA is not only inconsistent, but they have grown too big for their britches in the wrong way. I just sent a PSA sub in and am literally preparing a sub for SGC right now. the subs themselves are not comparable but i am not feeling good about my PSA submission. posts like this help with perspective and i think all of us would be more comfortable with options we are confident with. for folks like you, the turnaround time is key and this is another example of how impressive SGC is on that front.

I totally agree. PSA likely will remain the top dog, but SGC has been closing the gap more and more. I think those whose first focus is collecting tend to want to pay less of a premium for a PSA 10 vs. SGC 10. Having a lot of slabs out there also helps that their market saturation is just higher.

Question? Have you ever thought about resending the 9.5 cards in hopes they come back 10????

    • @CleverCubanCards

You could, especially on nicer cards, but for lower/mid end cards spending another $15 to grade doesnt really make sense take the smaller win and move on

Do you get a lot of your cards from opening boxes, or do you do a lot of just purchasing single cards to flip? Also do you look over cards for other people or just do it for yourself? I know some people will look over cards for others for a fee...just wondering if you do that? Either way, cool video! Thanks

95% are singles I buy from others. I don't really open that many boxes myself

It might be, but also would have taken 10x longer. Time can be money!

I have graded with SGC quite a bit as well as PSA. I'm mainly just grading cards in my PC. The pros of SGC is definitely the speed of turnaround and getting the autos graded for free and no additional delay. I have some really big cards from my PC in SGC, but late last year when PSA started having turnaround times in 30 days or so, i started submitting more to them and have mainly stuck with PSA ever since. I do get autos graded with PSA too and those take 3-4 months. While I don't sell many cards on eBay, the difference between selling PSA cards versus SGC cards is a world of difference. My PSA cards sell within a day or two, but SGC will take weeks or not sell at all. Over time, i do get the SGC cards sold, but people try to low ball the price more to n SGC and i usually get what i want on PSA cards. I'm going to stick with PSA because just knowing the cards will sell quicker and closer to asking price is very desirable. SGC not terrible, but buyers favor PSA so much more, sadly.

All excellent points. If I was doing eBay vs. whatnot I probably would send more to PSA given quicker market but luckily for me SGC still sells totally fine
