A Landscape Photographer On Holiday in the UK #5 - Green Bridge of Wales

  • My wife and I spent the month of September touring England and Wales and I managed to sneak in a few photo shoots and vlogs along the way.
This is the fifth video from Green Bridge In Pembrokeshire, Wales. This shoot typifies, again, the challenge of shooting landscapes on holiday. We had one evening in which we could spend about 2 hours at this location and the weather wasn't great - clouds blocked the sun right on sunset - but I explore different locations on the coast and different approaches to experimenting when the light doesn't cooperate.
    Hope you enjoy :-)

I often like my shadow in frame, especially at sunset giving me the long lean look. My best selfie was in the Freud Museum in Vienna. I was able to get three reflected images at the same time in the mirrors and titled the shot - my id, ego and superego. Now that's putting your own take on a scene.

That looks like a terrific location Ian. Great advice on varying the type of shot and the angle of view. Can't understand the folks who say they take only one image when at such a great site

I think your shadow in the image at 2:50 actually added to the story. You did right leaving it in.

Thanks David! It's a spectacular place but can be bit of a challenge to get to as you need to drive through a military firing range - it's 'interesting' driving past signs saying 'Watch out for tanks'! Jokes aside, the road to the coast (a dirt lane really) is closed when the area is 'in use'.

@@davidthomas670 You're fired ;-) Sorry, not sure - we just took a chance because we were there in the evening so assumed we'd be OK

Love to see another photographer’s take on my patch! Used to live just a few miles from there before moving up to Anglesey. You did really well keeping the camera steady for the long exposures in that typical Welsh wind! Great images throughout 👍 And wise words about avoiding postcard photos, and getting what you can from a location.

Thanks Dave :-) Spectacular bit of coastline in challenging conditions but great fun. Anglesey still to come. Cheers, Ian
