    This isn't what I was searching for, but it's still really helpful!

    I use dummy effects all the time to keep similar effects lined up to each other, track to track, but this is a great new use for them. I'll have to try it out. I usually freeze tracks because of the CPU load from the effects themselves, not usually because of the track elements, but this might allow me to freeze and move up the chain on various tracks while still giving me access to certain parts of the process without bottoming out because I have 3 Acustica plugins in each chain. Brilliant! It saves it from being an All or Nothing situation. Thanks again Kenny - and thanks Reaper for creating one of the most versatile, flexible DAWs out there! Amazing, really

    Ingenious workaround with the dummy effect, Kenny! That's what I love about Reaper - there are so many ways to do things.

    This also can reduce the latency

    Good one, Kenny! Cockos guys could work on a "freeze track without fx" option in the next upgrade. Also, "unglue" items could be an option.

    Very nice tip kenny! didn't know about this. It's gonna be useful 👍

    And if you disable the effects, freeze the track, then enable them, wouldn't that have the same impact?

    Very useful indeed, including with VSTi instruments!

    Thats a really great workaround, 'the dummy effect'. Inevitably I also end up with a slew of items on gridlines I want to freeze and unfreeze. Ive had more issues with small chopped up midi items, like notes staying on, or items way louder than the rest or a pitch or tremolo bend getting stuck

    Great tip Kenny. Happy 4th of July. What I did notice is that the file name says render on it which is great also since Reaper to me at least is lacking in showing what is frozen in a very prominent way.

    There's a more convenient way, as for me. And this is "Move Items to new subproject" ;)
    But anyway, thank you Kenny for your incredible work and very helpful vids!!!

    Thanks Kenny, it's great, but it's bad that this type of freezing is not in the general list of actions, and it's impossible to apply this action to several tracks at once.

    Hello Kenny. Thanks for all your tutorial and all your help. I have a question that has little to do with this video but I´m desperate since I can´t find the solution elsewhere. I haven´t been able to use some plugins such a Tal noismaker or ample guitar among other when up till now a was using then with no problem at all. The messege is: The following plug-in coul not be loaded (effect configuration is preserved) Any suggestion on how to fix it? Thanks beforehand.

    As a dummy plugin I made an JS "FX" with nothing but the pins in it. I use the renaming of FX function to leave (very short) notes on the tracks immediately visible.

    When I freeze there’s a red lock icon on the items. How come yours doesn’t have that?

    Nice tip !
    I happily and extensively use the pre-release comping and Melodyne for singers.
    Is freezing a recommended way to prepare the comping to allow Melodyne to see the comping result as a single item (I feel that multiple items in Melodyne are a bit clumsy and found that editing the comping with Melodyne already having worked provides rather nasty results.)
    (I brainlessly used glue for that purpose yet)

    Didn't someone make a "Dummy FX" plugin for Reaper, that has no parameters or processing?

  • @MoreMeRecording
    @MoreMeRecording ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you not just mute the FX you originally have in place before you freeze and the switch back on?

  • @studiognd
    @studiognd ปีที่แล้ว +1

    No need to insert dummy fx. Just deselect all fx, rightclick on empty space and freeze.
    EDIT: actually, freezing with deselected fx is not working properly, there is a bug. If you deselect all fx and freeze, it keeps all fx in place, that's fine. But it freezes with fx included, so you get double fx in the end.

  • @captainradio5894
    @captainradio5894 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Keeping the FX active means keeping the strain on your CPU. I’m not sure how much you reduce just by glueing .. but I’m willing to try it and see. Seems smarter to just freeze tracks that you’re not really tweaking, unfreeze them later when you want to mess with them. Maybe. I dunno.
