Just wanna correct something The dung defender did not die, if you go there before getting all masks you can talk to him. He also stays there, looking at you after the fight.
Good catch! I didn’t go back after beating the dung defender and didn’t realize he wasn’t dead. All of the other dream bosses (excluding NKG and a statue of Zote) were dead when we use the dream nail on them.
@@RelyeaGaming I went back looking to do the dream boss, didn't realize about the dreamers and found him in the cave and had a chat. He said he was going to see Isma so I went to her grove but couldn't find him. ( I guess it was just an excuse for why you couldn't fight him)
@@RelyeaGaming If you look closely you can see a figure in the plant where the tear comes out from. (I forgot to mention but he calls the tear a blessing, I think he only mentions it if you have gotten it)
@@RelyeaGaming Isma was another of the great knights, The fact Dung Defender was defending Isma, tends to indicate there was some form of relationship between them or at least until Isma died... Another note which may not have picked up on is Dung Defender is one of only 2 of the great knights who are still alive, the other being Ze'mer. Also White Defender you can fight more than once, upto 5 times, which gives you extra dialogue and also a new statue.... Dung Defender is one of 5 boss's who are still alive after their respective fights. The others being Hornet, Zote the Mighty, Mantis Lords and Grimm

I love the fact that you said 'Good luck' after you died. I feel less of a noob for finding them hard to beat :) A easy/cheating technique I found (once I got tired of dying over and over again...the get good technique sometimes just doesn't work with my lack of coordination), is to use a minion build with weaversong + grubsong + sprintmaster and to hide in a top corner during sticky situations.
They are not super easy. Especially your first couple of times through. I die all the time still. Just wait until the next live stream where I attempt the pantheons! I have not tried minion builds very much but I’m sure that would help a lot

Tip: Use the Spore Shroom charm against Lost Kin. When you knock them down, start healing. The spores will destroy the ghosts and give you more time to heal
I just got to 1800 essence and found out you only need to beat one of these guys for the 1800. The dream warriors give 1100. The essence roots give about 450. So you only need to beat 1 dream boss afterwards since you'll already have about 1500 essence by then.

For anyone struggling with Failed Champion, here's my advice after struggling with him for a while and finally finding a build that helped me beat him easily: - Unbreakable Strength - Quickslash - Sharp Shadow (makes dashing past him much easier) - Grubsong - 1 empty notch for whatever else you want
Going to Soul Tyrant, right at the bench you stop Midway through the Soul Sanctum, there is a breakable wall to the right of the bench (if it counts as a shortcut or not is for you to decide)

I really like the failed knight location. I heard the voice of 2 creatures but didnt found the wall then last week i found it accidently (spam attack and found breakable wall). It makes me feel like Forgotten Crossroad has more secret and i have to discover it more (in other games, we just ignore old locations after we complete missions).
Thanks so much for all your hollow knight content I started playing about 2 years ago and stopped after 35 hours played (I like to take my time in games like this) but I picked it up again last week and it took at least an hour to work out what I was upto and your videos have helped me find which way to go instead of walking around aimlessly hoping for something new lol. Tip for failed champion: use quickslash and dash under him when he jumps so you can easily dodge his attack. If your going for a heal build, I reccomend the shape of unn, quick focus, and deep focus charms. It may take all of your charm notches, but is worth it
u can just gather soul and get near him and shoot 3 abyss shriek and 1 shade soul and he will turn into the wobble form dream nail him and hit him once u did and repeat
I'm so proud of myself for beating Soul Tyrant in my first try, Soul Master took me A LOT to beat and this is an achievement for me, I've also beaten White Defender on my second try, although he is really easy, Zote tho..... I'm scared to fight him
I didn't know how to fight most dream bosses, i accidentally found out about the lost kin and grey prince zote and it was a nightmare to beat the second one
Tips for Soul Tyrant, when he floats across the arena you can get 1-2 pogo hits in to help build up soul. Unless you have a clear opportunity when he is shooting at you focus on dodging the projectiles with both dashes and monarch wings, walking is not enough to sufficiently dodge them. When he summons his shield and floats across slide in under him and use the Abyss Shriek, then dash into the corner, you will have a small window in which to heal. The best way to avoid the slams is to dash out of the way first and then jump to avoid the shockwave, if he does a fake out jump to the side to avoid. In final phase simply dashing out of the way of the slams will work, no shockwave.

1:01 First time seeing this video 2 or 1 years ago I remember that scaring the living hell out of me seeing how fast the failed champion was. Then my fear was converted into motivation after you said good luck. Edit: if you're wondering why I am still here after I completed the game long time ago. I lost my account and didn't know where the path of pain was and couldn't complete last pantheon due to Markoff.
One of the reason among many other reason of why I love Hollow Knights is that a few of the abilities make us temporary invincible or can damage the enemy. Like shadow dash which can make us go through enemy without taking damage and with sharp shadow charm, we can even damage the enemy when we hit them with our character's body in dashing. I'll our character's body as our body in this game... 😅 And then crystal dash... If not directly to our body the rocket kind of boost behind our body will damage the enemy... What I meant is that.. I love how the developer create the opportunity for us to hit our enemy using our body and damage them instead of the usual game where regardless of upgrades and skills if our body hits the enemy we will be the only one to take the damage and the enemy doesn't take any damage whatsoever... Like Megaman that I used to play. I will always take the damage even if I hit the enemy with the character's body. Like in Megaman X5. There is an ability to freeze time. Even when my enemy is frozen if I move my char to the frozen enemy. I still be the only to take damage.😅😅😅 And then they even include Baldur charm which negated all damage while healing and then counter attack from Thorn of agony... I love this charm as it gives me the feeling of fairness... The fairness feeling like this: *"So... You hit me with your body? I'm not the only one taking damage. You also got to take the damage too! And now that's fair"* 😅🤣🤣🤣... I don't think that I am the only who feel this way, right?
Ngl i'm almost at endgame on HK (yes, playing HK for the first time in 2021) and this tutorial really helped me out to get enought dream essence and get awakened nail Omw to White Palace

More power to You on the platinum. If your on PlayStation I think you can do it in one save file. There are a couple of achievements that you get based on choices: Let zote live or die Let nailsmith live or die Defeat NKG or banish

For the lost kin dream boss fight Fungal something rather (AOE on focus)+ Quick focus Go ham, prioritize the ghosts. When you knock him down, heal to full using the fungal AOE to kill the ghosts while healing. Failed champion. (Any charms) If he jumps forward, dash under him. If he jumps back, dash away and avoid the waves by clinging to the wall.
I knocked him out of the fly's mouth assuming that was enough to save him. Didn't realize that wasn't enough. So I accidentally got the Neglect achievement without even trying xD
Another great video Relyea. In the city of tears... at the bench ( where conifer is found for the map ) that wall to the right can be knocked out. But NOT from the side where the bench is you have to do it from the other side.... so when you go up and go left to where you get the Shade Soul. As you go up the lift hit that wall on your left as you go up... you will find a breakable section.
Sorry I had a keyboard failure had to stop and well get another keyboard sigh.... With Grey Prince Zote. You can fight him more than once in fact upto 10 times.... each time progressively getting harder with each time you fight and beat him. The list of his skills etc gets longer hehehe. BUT as i said it gets harder... 1 mask on the first 3 fights, 2 masks on the 4th fight, and one additional mask each fight after that meaning for fight 10.. one hit on you will take 8 masks away from you... it is tough also note that once you beat him for the 4th time. Bretta will leave Dirtmouth never to be seen again. If you beat him for the 10th time his statue will turn to gold.... Also note with Grey Prince Zote, There is a quirk with him in that IF you go and fight him in GodHome ( which yes he is there ) and you have not completed the 10 fights in Dirtmouth first.... Then sorry, if you defeat him in Godhome you have just increased his difficulty levels for when fight him in Dirtmouth. So if you do want to do all 10 fights my suggestion is fight him first in Dirtmouth get to the level you want and then fight him in God Home ( He is in Pantheon of the Sage which is Pantheon 3 and also Pantheon of Hollownest which is Pantheon 5, unless you let him die in which case he is skipped. in both of these he is Level 3 )
I always love when people share tips like this. I totally missed that breakable wall and had to walk ALL THE WAY AROUND, every time I does to the soul master oof 🤦♂️
@@RelyeaGaming hehe The only thing i find really annoying is once you win the 4th one and Bretta leaves Zote keeps talking!!!!!!! arrrrgggggg... But there is no getting away from the fact that battling him and especially in the last 3 battles .. so battles 8,9 and 10 are tough. You cannot rely on healing there is some times can heal but not long eg when he does the zotelings attack for example. This is one of the few boss's the sooner you can defeat the better. As the longer he lasts the more attacks he delivers and it can overwhelm you very easily if your not careful. Each time you defeat him one candle will light up around his statue upto a max of 4 candles then next achievement is when you complete battle 10 then his statue turns gold. Each time you defeat him his Adjective list increases .....so if you count those it tells you what battle you are upto remembering that at level 1 you start with 4 and level 2 grants 2 additional after that 1 for each level completed. As said though if you have fought him in Godhome you have just made it harder for yourself as you have increased his levels.....

Honestly for those who are not very good at fighting I would recommend the white defender first, I had a very easy time defeating him, vs the other dream bosses.
For the bench near Soul Tyrant, there's a shortcut (breakable wall) to the right of the bench. It's going to save you 20-30 seconds. Not much but if you're going to die a lot of times, you'e going to need it lol.
if you have the glowing womb charm or any charm like that, you can equip it and the just get in occasional hits while the hatchlings do the damage, and you just need to get a little bit of soul every now and then so you can spawn more. Then it's just a matter of can you dodge long enough, and with soul tyrant it isn't way to difficult. I set up my charms like this: Grub Song, Glowing Womb, Long Nail, Dash master, and Dream Wielder.
For white defender, there's a faster way to reach him from City of Tears. Use the main shaft that connects City of Tears to Ancient Basin, hug the left wall. About 1/4 of the way, there's an opening to reach the Dung Defender's area.
That is true... but does that not first have to be opened from the Dung Defenders side first? eg you go past the lever after beating Dung Defender and just to the right is the knockable wall.
TIP: when fighting lost kin. Use DEFENDERS CREST instead of spore shroom when healing it is HEAPS more effective. These are the charms I used to beat him second try: Unbreakable strength, lifeblood heart, defenders crest and quick focus. Along with the pure nail
All the very best on your next playthrough and aiming for 112%. There is not one thing which makes a major difference it is all the little things which add up. Some things are not needed eg Pantheon 5 but you do need to get Pantheon 1 to 4 as that does count as Relyea says. Remember also Hunters Journal also counts... of them all that is the one thing which takes or can take a long time to complete (161 entries for a full completion). Remember with the Hunters Journal not all entries are enemies and not all enemies are obvious or easy to find..... Do all bosses and do all dream bosses in regards to the dream nail elements when the seer opens up the door opposite her ( Spirit Glade)... suggest you do go into there as there is a whispering root in there... BUT you do not need to dream nail anything in there other than the whispering root... in fact try to seriously avoid it as the fight in there against Revek is extremely quick and tough ( you cannot kill Revek!!! but man oh man he can kill you ..... )... you do not need the essence from them there is more than enough other places to get it to complete the dream nail elements.
when it comes to fighting the dream bosses in my opinion it's all about getting used to the patterns after that you can kill them pretty easily also dont worry if you die to the spirits in lost kin once he's dead

When you think about it, all these dream boss names seem to be from the knight’s perspective. The Lost Kin is his lost sibling, the failed champion failed his friends, and the soul tyrant committed mass genocide to get his way. Edit: Wait what about zote’s titles lol
For anyone looking for practice against the Nightmare King, I got a couple tips 1. Try to learn each of his attacks. I believe he has 5, and shows up for 4 of them 2. Train by fighting Troupe Master Grimm on Ascended difficulty. This will simulate the double damage NKG deals while using most of the same attacks 3. Quick Focus is your best friend here. If you have three spare charm notches, equip it 4. Play defensively. Grimm in both forms is a boss you can’t tank through, so look back at tip 1
Easy way that I used to defeat failed champion: go all the way to the top of the arena. Then just hold S (Crystal Dash) Or if your on controller then just use whatever your keybind is for Crystal dash. Now just keep holding that key bind at the top of the arena until he is dead. Charms that you will need: the spider charm that makes spider and that thing that makes you give birth to baby versions of yourself. And if you wanna do even more damage then equip defenders crest since it will make your baby hatchlings stronger. That’s how I did it! Sorry if this is confusing.
In the first time i go to fight him, i defeat him in the first attempt and i feel a little of disapointment of him... then i see the dream boss body... i upgraded my nail to max level, only need like 8 charms to get all charms and waiting to repair fragil strength and my dream gate portal still there.

That is a possibility. I haven't done a whispering root video because there is no achievement and it gives very little essence. They are almost a waste of time.
My hack for the Failed Champion: Step 1- equip Grimmchild. Step 2- jump in the top left corner while Grimmchild spits on him. It takes a very very long time, but it works. I might actually have the record for the longest fight in Hollow Knight lol. It was long enough that I thought it wasn't working and then he fell and his head popped out.
I found an easy way to tank all the Soul Tyrant attacks and make it through the first phase easily you just have to use Quick focus, Grub song, and Soul Catcher During the fight you don't need to dodge attacks very much because you can heal all 3 times when he does the clock attack and when he's down The second stage is still hard so good luck, at least you'll have full health for it
You missed one dream boss in the deep nest, I can’t remember his name but he just floats around and has a homing axe and spawns another two smaller axes that are the bane of my existence

That companion build works for the Lost Kin; I just used that strategy to win against him.

I use strentgh quickslash and steady body
My biggest advice is just don't jump, as much as possible use the shade cloak to dodge... I lost way to much health to unpredictable falling rocks
The key is to not jump( expect for the shocwaves) just pass him dashing when he jumps you and hit it from behind

I really like the failed knight location. I heard the voice of 2 creatures but didnt found the wall then last week i found it accidently (spam attack and found breakable wall). It makes me feel like Forgotten Crossroad has more secret and i have to discover it more (in other games, we just ignore old locations after we complete missions).
Charms I’m using: weaversong, Grubsong, grimmchild, defenders crest, glowing womb, steady body

Thanks so much for all your hollow knight content I started playing about 2 years ago and stopped after 35 hours played (I like to take my time in games like this) but I picked it up again last week and it took at least an hour to work out what I was upto and your videos have helped me find which way to go instead of walking around aimlessly hoping for something new lol. Tip for failed champion: use quickslash and dash under him when he jumps so you can easily dodge his attack. If your going for a heal build, I reccomend the shape of unn, quick focus, and deep focus charms. It may take all of your charm notches, but is worth it
u can just gather soul and get near him and shoot 3 abyss shriek and 1 shade soul and he will turn into the wobble form dream nail him and hit him once u did and repeat

I'm so proud of myself for beating Soul Tyrant in my first try, Soul Master took me A LOT to beat and this is an achievement for me, I've also beaten White Defender on my second try, although he is really easy, Zote tho..... I'm scared to fight him
for me it was in reverse, i beat the soul Master first try then took a lot of tries on the soul tyrant
I didn't know how to fight most dream bosses, i accidentally found out about the lost kin and grey prince zote and it was a nightmare to beat the second one

Tips for Soul Tyrant, when he floats across the arena you can get 1-2 pogo hits in to help build up soul. Unless you have a clear opportunity when he is shooting at you focus on dodging the projectiles with both dashes and monarch wings, walking is not enough to sufficiently dodge them. When he summons his shield and floats across slide in under him and use the Abyss Shriek, then dash into the corner, you will have a small window in which to heal. The best way to avoid the slams is to dash out of the way first and then jump to avoid the shockwave, if he does a fake out jump to the side to avoid. In final phase simply dashing out of the way of the slams will work, no shockwave.
Another thing, shade dashing into the projectiles seems to destroy them without causing damage.

One of the reason among many other reason of why I love Hollow Knights is that a few of the abilities make us temporary invincible or can damage the enemy. Like shadow dash which can make us go through enemy without taking damage and with sharp shadow charm, we can even damage the enemy when we hit them with our character's body in dashing. I'll our character's body as our body in this game... 😅
And then crystal dash... If not directly to our body the rocket kind of boost behind our body will damage the enemy...
What I meant is that.. I love how the developer create the opportunity for us to hit our enemy using our body and damage them instead of the usual game where regardless of upgrades and skills if our body hits the enemy we will be the only one to take the damage and the enemy doesn't take any damage whatsoever... Like Megaman that I used to play. I will always take the damage even if I hit the enemy with the character's body. Like in Megaman X5. There is an ability to freeze time. Even when my enemy is frozen if I move my char to the frozen enemy. I still be the only to take damage.😅😅😅
And then they even include Baldur charm which negated all damage while healing and then counter attack from Thorn of agony... I love this charm as it gives me the feeling of fairness...
The fairness feeling like this:
*"So... You hit me with your body? I'm not the only one taking damage. You also got to take the damage too! And now that's fair"*

For the lost kin dream boss fight
Fungal something rather (AOE on focus)+
Quick focus
Go ham, prioritize the ghosts.
When you knock him down, heal to full using the fungal AOE to kill the ghosts while healing.
Failed champion. (Any charms)
If he jumps forward, dash under him. If he jumps back, dash away and avoid the waves by clinging to the wall.

I knocked him out of the fly's mouth assuming that was enough to save him. Didn't realize that wasn't enough. So I accidentally got the Neglect achievement without even trying xD
Another great video Relyea. In the city of tears... at the bench ( where conifer is found for the map ) that wall to the right can be knocked out. But NOT from the side where the bench is you have to do it from the other side.... so when you go up and go left to where you get the Shade Soul. As you go up the lift hit that wall on your left as you go up... you will find a breakable section.
Sorry I had a keyboard failure had to stop and well get another keyboard sigh.... With Grey Prince Zote. You can fight him more than once in fact upto 10 times.... each time progressively getting harder with each time you fight and beat him. The list of his skills etc gets longer hehehe. BUT as i said it gets harder... 1 mask on the first 3 fights, 2 masks on the 4th fight, and one additional mask each fight after that meaning for fight 10.. one hit on you will take 8 masks away from you... it is tough also note that once you beat him for the 4th time. Bretta will leave Dirtmouth never to be seen again. If you beat him for the 10th time his statue will turn to gold.... Also note with Grey Prince Zote, There is a quirk with him in that IF you go and fight him in GodHome ( which yes he is there ) and you have not completed the 10 fights in Dirtmouth first.... Then sorry, if you defeat him in Godhome you have just increased his difficulty levels for when fight him in Dirtmouth. So if you do want to do all 10 fights my suggestion is fight him first in Dirtmouth get to the level you want and then fight him in God Home ( He is in Pantheon of the Sage which is Pantheon 3 and also Pantheon of Hollownest which is Pantheon 5, unless you let him die in which case he is skipped. in both of these he is Level 3 )

@@RelyeaGaming hehe The only thing i find really annoying is once you win the 4th one and Bretta leaves Zote keeps talking!!!!!!! arrrrgggggg... But there is no getting away from the fact that battling him and especially in the last 3 battles .. so battles 8,9 and 10 are tough. You cannot rely on healing there is some times can heal but not long eg when he does the zotelings attack for example. This is one of the few boss's the sooner you can defeat the better. As the longer he lasts the more attacks he delivers and it can overwhelm you very easily if your not careful. Each time you defeat him one candle will light up around his statue upto a max of 4 candles then next achievement is when you complete battle 10 then his statue turns gold. Each time you defeat him his Adjective list increases .....so if you count those it tells you what battle you are upto remembering that at level 1 you start with 4 and level 2 grants 2 additional after that 1 for each level completed. As said though if you have fought him in Godhome you have just made it harder for yourself as you have increased his levels.....

For the bench near Soul Tyrant, there's a shortcut (breakable wall) to the right of the bench. It's going to save you 20-30 seconds. Not much but if you're going to die a lot of times, you'e going to need it lol.

I find it funny how you get the most from Lost Kin and yet he was the easiest for me (the only one I’ve beat so far)
if you have the glowing womb charm or any charm like that, you can equip it and the just get in occasional hits while the hatchlings do the damage, and you just need to get a little bit of soul every now and then so you can spawn more. Then it's just a matter of can you dodge long enough, and with soul tyrant it isn't way to difficult. I set up my charms like this: Grub Song, Glowing Womb, Long Nail, Dash master, and Dream Wielder.
For white defender, there's a faster way to reach him from City of Tears. Use the main shaft that connects City of Tears to Ancient Basin, hug the left wall. About 1/4 of the way, there's an opening to reach the Dung Defender's area.

That is true... but does that not first have to be opened from the Dung Defenders side first? eg you go past the lever after beating Dung Defender and just to the right is the knockable wall.

Lost kin was hard. And failed champion is just why, why so difficult. It's like fighting 4 false knights at once it's insane.
TIP: when fighting lost kin. Use DEFENDERS CREST instead of spore shroom when healing it is HEAPS more effective. These are the charms I used to beat him second try: Unbreakable strength, lifeblood heart, defenders crest and quick focus. Along with the pure nail

The pantheons only give 4% and the first 1-2 are not too bad. You could skip Grimm, trial of the fool, 3rrd and 4th pantheon and STILL get 108%.

All the very best on your next playthrough and aiming for 112%. There is not one thing which makes a major difference it is all the little things which add up. Some things are not needed eg Pantheon 5 but you do need to get Pantheon 1 to 4 as that does count as Relyea says. Remember also Hunters Journal also counts... of them all that is the one thing which takes or can take a long time to complete (161 entries for a full completion). Remember with the Hunters Journal not all entries are enemies and not all enemies are obvious or easy to find..... Do all bosses and do all dream bosses in regards to the dream nail elements when the seer opens up the door opposite her ( Spirit Glade)... suggest you do go into there as there is a whispering root in there... BUT you do not need to dream nail anything in there other than the whispering root... in fact try to seriously avoid it as the fight in there against Revek is extremely quick and tough ( you cannot kill Revek!!! but man oh man he can kill you ..... )... you do not need the essence from them there is more than enough other places to get it to complete the dream nail elements.

At 2:33, if you go all the way to the right, on the other side of where Cornifer was, you can break the wall and it's a shortcut
The soul tyrant was by far the easiest for me, I did it with 6 masks aswell
bruh i only got it w 3 vessels 7 masks and full abyss shreik build
for me lost kin was the easiest, I did it with defenders crest, quick slash, mark of pride and heavy blow

when it comes to fighting the dream bosses in my opinion it's all about getting used to the patterns after that you can kill them pretty easily also dont worry if you die to the spirits in lost kin once he's dead

When you think about it, all these dream boss names seem to be from the knight’s perspective. The Lost Kin is his lost sibling, the failed champion failed his friends, and the soul tyrant committed mass genocide to get his way.
Edit: Wait what about zote’s titles lol
For anyone looking for practice against the Nightmare King, I got a couple tips
1. Try to learn each of his attacks. I believe he has 5, and shows up for 4 of them
2. Train by fighting Troupe Master Grimm on Ascended difficulty. This will simulate the double damage NKG deals while using most of the same attacks
3. Quick Focus is your best friend here. If you have three spare charm notches, equip it
4. Play defensively. Grimm in both forms is a boss you can’t tank through, so look back at tip 1
Easy way that I used to defeat failed champion: go all the way to the top of the arena. Then just hold S (Crystal Dash) Or if your on controller then just use whatever your keybind is for Crystal dash. Now just keep holding that key bind at the top of the arena until he is dead. Charms that you will need: the spider charm that makes spider and that thing that makes you give birth to baby versions of yourself. And if you wanna do even more damage then equip defenders crest since it will make your baby hatchlings stronger. That’s how I did it! Sorry if this is confusing.

In the first time i go to fight him, i defeat him in the first attempt and i feel a little of disapointment of him... then i see the dream boss body... i upgraded my nail to max level, only need like 8 charms to get all charms and waiting to repair fragil strength and my dream gate portal still there.

That is a possibility. I haven't done a whispering root video because there is no achievement and it gives very little essence. They are almost a waste of time.

My hack for the Failed Champion: Step 1- equip Grimmchild. Step 2- jump in the top left corner while Grimmchild spits on him. It takes a very very long time, but it works. I might actually have the record for the longest fight in Hollow Knight lol. It was long enough that I thought it wasn't working and then he fell and his head popped out.
I found an easy way to tank all the Soul Tyrant attacks and make it through the first phase easily you just have to use Quick focus, Grub song, and Soul Catcher
During the fight you don't need to dodge attacks very much because you can heal all 3 times when he does the clock attack and when he's down
The second stage is still hard so good luck, at least you'll have full health for it
