  • I have had a lot of requests asking about the holding tools that i use in my carving videos, so this is a video showing those tools in a little bit more detail. i did not design these tools i copied them from a very talented bowl carver called david fisher. check him out.

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I'm getting set up to carve bowls. It's VERY helpful to see the tools you use. I am learning this new hobby entirely from TH-cam videos. I'm ordering tools one by one from Amazon and I appreciate your recommendations.

    Great idea to work from a storage unit also. I've often thought of doing the same, because I live in an apartment.

    thanks Kris for the video. its completely helpful. I've started assembling my tool kit for hand carving. I just purchased a 12 wood gouge set and am working on making a work bench and some other tools like the adze and other gouges for carving bowls. if there is anything you can suggest please do. I look forward to watching your videos.

    Can I ask you how you got the scar on your arm?

      +French River Springs I had a bike motorcycles ascendent when I was 18. Broke both my legs and both my arms. Nearly died, then nearly lost my left leg. But all fixed now 👍

      Wow. I thought maybe you cut your arm with a chainsaw making bowls. Anyways you do nice work! Cheers!

    i'm trying to get a bowl carving kit together, but it seems every manufacturer of adzes has sold out! christ only knows how long the waiting list is for HK adzes now, let alone Svante Djarv. very frustrating.

    What the length of the log you used for the bowl horse?

    • @KrisHarbour
      @KrisHarbour  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      it depends on what you want to carve, you can change it to what length you need

    sorry to hear you were'nt satisfyed with the adze....did you contact gränsfors? I make them now and I tell you they are not easy to make..but you should have gotten a new one if you were'nt satisfyed. Great work you do! keep it up, love your videos. All the best John

      Hi john, i purchased the adze and used it for a while but i could never get it sharp.(this was due the the bevel being very uneven) i have lots of other tools with curved edges but they were a more shallow curve. so i thought that is was just me not able to sharpen it properly. so i didnt send it back as i asumed it was my fault. After maybe 2 months of just not being able to get it sharp. in the end i re shaped the edge so it had an even bevel and then it was easy to sharpen. My gransfors bruks caving axe and splitting maul were perfect. but the adze was very disappointing. it works for me now but i cant give it a good review from my experience.

      @@KrisHarbourfor the amount you paid - I'd be disappointed too. Also, sending back costs money, and you have to wait for the replacement. One thing for sure, it should have never gone past their QA inspection, as something clearly obvious as uneven edge. Another thing, the steel they use isn't anything special, so in terms of sharpening you shouldn't see a crazy amount of effort. This ain't no 51200 or D2
