Honda CRF300Rally Crash Bars Drop Test

  • Three stage drop test done by Outback Motortek. Again! This time we threw our beloved CRF300Rally Honda into the deep end of the pool: dirt/grass, gravel and concrete. Watch the full video to find out about the results.
    For the sake of transparency we'd like to note (kind of a disclaimer) that the performance of the BarkBusters hand guards likely had an effect on the performance of our crash bars. We always recommend the upgrading of the original hand guards to a reputable brand as added shield.

    Dam, I flinch every time I see a bike hit the ground , but I'm very impressed by the durability and quality of your products. Proof is in the pudding. I'm so glad I have the full set of crash guards on my 2016 Honda African Twin. Even after a year of owning my bike, Lorry sent me a new and improved skid plate and lower cross bar for free. Now thats great sevice !!

    Nice tests and the bars look solid!
    Not sure about the front top mounting point though. This bracket is easy to bend outward and backward (ask me how I know) and I wonder if the bars would actually increase pulling (and bending) leverage in a grinding slide on uneven/rocky terrain. What do you think?

    • @Outbackmotortek
      @Outbackmotortek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The crash bars have some flex. The cluster bracket didn't bend or break. That drop on the concrete is as nasty as it gets.

    • @silvioperugini5890
      @silvioperugini5890 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      agree of flat asphalt is a thing on a rocky trail is another I am considering all options too but may stick with just a sturdy radiator guard for the same concern that you have if you bend the tower is on a tour is a real pain... other then that great product I would just not has used that front mounting point but frame only

    • @Outbackmotortek
      @Outbackmotortek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@silvioperugini5890 it’s highly unlikely that the cluster bracket would break, there’s enough flex on the crash bars to absorb impact. The concrete drop is likely the most significant impact that could have been produced.
      As always, purchase a product that you feel the most comfortable with. It’s your motorcycle after all. ✌️

    What a timely video! Just picked up my Rally last week and was looking to get some bars for it before I inevitably drop it for the first time.
    Although this was only a tangential topic of your great video, it looks like the Barkbusters were installed over the factory weights at the ends of the handlebars. Was this done using longer M6 screws, or were the factory bar inserts & weights drilled out for the larger M8 screws that come with the Barkbusters? They clearly held up well, and I'm wondering if the larger M8 hardware is truly necessary.

    • @Outbackmotortek
      @Outbackmotortek  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comment! We just used longer bolts, nothing else. At the time of doing the drop test, Barkbusters still didn’t offer handlebars specifically for the 300L/Rally. Perhaps they have something by now!

  • @chriscooperCRF300

    My friend had these crash bars on, the first drop on a rocky trail and they bent right in touching the plastics on the rad side, bent back out so i guess you could say they did their job?
    Removed them now just running barkbusters and a rad brace as he also thinks they could potentially bend the tower bracket, just being honest!

    • @Outbackmotortek
      @Outbackmotortek  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the feedback. Crash bars bend to absorb impact. That means your buddy’s bike’s radiator was saved from a potential impact.

    2:33 and 2:56 show the thin bracket to which these attach up top. I can see where people would be worried about bending that, however if they're getting pushed inward toward the tower, they'd contact that before they could yield? Is there room in there to add a cross strut that would tie the two sides together horizontally, running above the fender / below the headlights?

    • @Outbackmotortek
      @Outbackmotortek  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can see clearly that the top brackets are not bent. We show it from different angles. They’re straight even after being slammed against concrete ground twice.

      @Outbackmotortek  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@angelodonofrio2 must have been a heck of a drop if yours is bent. Besides, bending means absorbing impact. Crash bars do that if there’s enough force. You’re, however, entitled to your opinion ✌🏼

    • @angelodonofrio2
      @angelodonofrio2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Outbackmotortek It was a low speed, low impact drop. I’m not a talented rider. Hence the purchase of crash bars.
