HUGE thanks to Industry Nine for all their support!!! I am still riding these amazing Enduro 315 Carbon wheels to this day. Check out the wheels thru this link over to the I9 page at Jenson USA: bit.ly/IndustryNine2022JKW (anything you purchase there will help support my channel)
Yep!!!! GREAT rims, and good folks at WR1! Dustin was in my Kamloops Local Loam: jeffkendallweed.com/kamloops-b-c-the-freeride-birthplace-didnt-actually-have-trails/
Thanks Steven! The wheels are legit. They are really making some cool stuff, and have learned tons since they began about 20 years ago. It's cool to see how they've built so much tooling to help with producing complete wheels as precisely as possible.
That was very impressive and quite an eye-opener. Love that this was created from an old-school machine shop. I'm even happier with my I9 wheelset now. :)
It's hard to complain about the cost of an Industry 9 wheel set after seeing the care and detail and technology that goes into their products. Add in the fact that they are a US based manufacture and have such an integrated relationship with one of the best bike communities in the country, again, it's hard to cast shade. Great video Jeff . . . you have an open invite to come to Boise in 2023 to check out our various bike parks and the Ridge to Rivers Trail System.
Thanks for watching, Sam! The I9 thing is really, really cool, and the product alone is absolutely kick ass. Way cool to see how they've grown, and they have done a lot to give back, too. I'd love to ride Boise! I stopped by in April last year driving home from AZ and it was snowing hard in Boise, so I had dinner with Kyle and April and carried on driving back to WA. Will try again!
That was a very interesting and informative video. I'm a bike mechanic and have trued hundreds of wheels over the years and have always wondered what goes into building a wheel set. Much respect to Industry 9 employees. I'm ordering a wheel set from them very soon to match my I9 stem. Happy riding
man I had this idea of a semi automatic truing machine for a while now. I'm so glad someone actually did it! it definitely deserves to be a product in the market of bike mechanics. gr8 vid!
Love this! It's awesome seeing real people that are genuinely interested in MTB building great products. I9's are now on my list of 'needs' not 'wants' 🤣🤣🤣. Great Vid as always 😁
One of the awesome perks of the job Jeff! That's a great trip and facility. I have a soft spot for engineering and overcoming mechanical obstacles. Building wheels has been one thing I've left to the pros. I will true them up, but never built. Gotta do at least one. Straight pull look easier than j hook, and Berd spokes are a no way Dude! I9 are great, but would like them to build a silent hub, they're quite loud.
I haven't always been the biggest i9 fan, but I'm really impressed with their processes and quality of their products at the time of manufacture! They're great products for those who take care of their equipment!
Thanks for the in-depth look at I9 manufacturing process, Jeff. I've been riding I9s for 6+ years now (2 different sets of Enduro 305) and can honestly say that these are the best wheels I've ever owned in 30+ years of MTB. Seeing how they're made and all the attention they get helps me understand why they are so amazing! :)
Right on Cool, yeah I was blown away at how in-depth the build process is- way more precise than the machine built wheels I've seen from massive factories/assembly plants.
Brilliant it shows an amazing understanding how much engineering and manufacturing processes goes into producing a top quality MTB wheel. Saving for a set of i9's when I get the money can't wait to have them and ride them. thanks for the video Jeff
Thanks Jim! I love Cane Creek headsets, would be neat to see what they have in-house, but if I'm not mistaken, I believe they outsource most of their manufacturing.
I want tamales damnit! What an insightful look into the build process. I9's are now on my radar for next set. Not sure if rainbow will flow with my bad-apple red Mojo3 but we'll see.
Fantastic insight to the whole process, super impressive to the amount of work that goes into building a industry nine wheel build, I'm thinking in the near future about investing in a set !! They look sweet. !!! Good job Jeff 👍👌
I've been building wheels since 1982...I was impressed when I got to see QBP'S wheel building room upstairs at a Winterbike. This ups the standard. It'd be interesting to see a competitive experiment between a top notch hand builder and this machine. Sort of a John Henry dual. I can see this equipmentusing top quality tools, componentsand fixtures not to mention computers to dial it in...really hard to best...the human elementid like to believe is important. How long till computers/robots go 100% including shipping it to your door by drone and taking orders, payments, raw material receiving, CNC setup, etc...we'll all be out of work. But then, I'm retired now anyway. Someday we'll all watch robots race too.
Great Video Jeff, would love to see more content like this. Factory tours for your sponsors. Maybe even a Jensonusa tour. Are you going to the Sedona MTB fest this year?
Thanks Chris! Most headquarters are simply a sales/marketing/engineering complex, with a few prototyping facilities. I struggle to edit them in a way that's engaging, but here are a few that are coming to mind: th-cam.com/video/2zwqUPpXwqc/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/LX0nZjHKvcM/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/PzCZuBAM72g/w-d-xo.html
Careful with the hydras, the axel they use for the rear hub is pretty fragile (1.5mm aluminum) and snaps pretty easily. Definitely not up to the longevity of other higher priced premium hubs
Excellent tour and wheel build! My wife and I have 3 sets of Industry Nine/WeAreOne wheels and are very happy with them. Why did you pick the straight spokes over J-bend?
Hi Jeff, anther fun and very professional video. You made Industry nine people and products shine! I'm from Israel but I'm starting to think how to get a set of wheels for my trek rail. Merry Christmas and happy new year
Thanks for the nice note, I really do appreciate that! There are so many good choices for wheels these days, we're all very fortunate to have the options we do! It wasn't that long ago there were only a couple wheels worth riding. Industry Nine has an active distributor in Israel, Ran Zilka, and you can find their info here: ran-zilka.co.il/
hey man, I love your videos, and I have been thinking of switching from an Enduro to Downcountry bike, I would love to see you review a Kona Hei Hei Cr/Dl, I have been looking into that for a while and it seems like a super capable 120mm/120mm bike at only 26lbs.
Thanks John! The downcountry bikes can be fun, I had a great time on the Ibis Exie. It's a very different experience than the usual smash and bash enduro style stuff. I have not ridden the Hei Hei, but if I take a break from big enduro bikes, I'll certainly do a mix of hardtails and downcountry bikes. The Rocky Element looks amazing, as does the Transition Spur.
I wish that Industry 9 would sell their straight pull rim brake road hubs separately... Unfortunately they only sell their Torch J bend road hubs to the consumer... So I purchased a pair of DT Swiss 240s instead..😃
Love i9 wheels but I can't afford that Enduro candy build! 😭I put together a set with some torch hubs on china carbon hoops with bladed sapim cx ray spokes. Damn things have been crazy solid!!!
Love the rainbow wheelset. As someone who's currently playing with a spoke with about 10 different color alloy nipples as a fidget toy, and someone who has an old red King R45 cutout hub to fiddle with, I totally appreciate the desire for not only quality, but also vibrant colors. That said... Wait, you go to ALL the trouble of a custom wheelset with awesome rainbow spokes and you choose SILVER hubs???? I'm sorry, but that's silly! You could have mix & matched hub colors to really give the wheeset pop! They'd be "extra" custom then! Or choose the same color that would complement the bike. But silver? Even just black would be better to highlight the spoke colors. Sorry, but silver is SO stock. Been riding silver hubs since the 70's, so I'd never choose that "color" for a custom wheelset. Swing and a miss if you ask me!
95% of mountain bikes the last 10 years have had black hubs. I'm over boring black. Shiny silver is classy and looks good on all the different bikes I mount these to- these wheels have already been on about 6 different bikes.
Okay now your just rubbing it in... Just another day in the life of JKW. Literally my dream day! How come we didnt see a wheels glamour shot at the end? Another great video. BTW, I9 can we see a JKW edition???
Thanks for the request on the JKW edition, we've been chatting about that! Would certainly make it easy for folks to quickly narrow down the selection process to a good, solid, all around enduro wheelset. Wheel glamour shots would have been so dope! The wheel build happened on the last of our 6 days in NC, and we were absolutely whooped. We had to throw them in the box and catch our flight home, so oooops! No glam glam shots! These are the rainbow wheels I've juggled among the Rise/Instinct ebikes, the Transition Spire, and another bike you'll see on the channel next month.
When you see a build process and gain an appreciation for the process to produce a product, it makes you willing to pay for said product. Thanks for sharing! Thanks I9 for enlightening us! @JeffKendallWeed
I'm from Germany, and here I9 is kind of a niche brand. It's more about DT or Newmen. However, I love my I9 wheels 😄 Btw: I'm pretty sure that the anodizing bath should have the correct pH value not be in the right place (which the subtitles states) 😅
Thanks for the note! DT makes GREAT stuff, though I've never seen Newmen product in real life. I used the auto subtitle option in Premiere Pro, and it got things close enough that I left them. This video took so much editing resources that I just wanted to get it public/published, and couldnt afford to get it perfect.
@Jeff Kendall-Weed One can definitely see that a lot of effort went into this video. I really enjoyed it and I hope to see more factory tours in future videos 🙂
Sick wheelset man, but I have to say something. Centrifugal force is not real it is centripetal force, centrifugal force is a way for engineers to be lazy. I had to say this as my physics tutor always tells the class this, and I’m not mocking engineers as he was an engineer and I am at university to be one 😂😂

Electrical tape doesn’t hold up, this is a non-stretch tape with significantly better adhesion. Similar to Stans tape but a little burlier. About 18 months ago I9 switched over to this newer, better tape.

So cool to see USA made stuff and the people and work that goes into each wheel. Definitely my next set of wheels will be from my back yard I9
That was enjoyable to watch the amount of detail and the process that goes into the bulding. Well done video. Informative!
Thanks for watching, Jordan!
Absolutely drooling over the manufacturing and part quality. Great to see how much attention to detail there is from start to finish!

Thanks Sam! The I9 stuff is SOLID!
Did anyone else love the library of wheel parts??? So organized!!!
I just ordered my wheel set and this confirmed it was the best decision I have made for my bike.

Thanks for watching AMD!
There's some amazing people working in I9.
My new bike is definitely getting a set of i9 wheels
I've been happy with them for a solid 5 years now!
This explains why my 7-8 year old i9 torch wheels are holding strong to this day with little maintenance.
What a cool video, the best mtb channel by a mile in my humble opinion!
Thank you Travis, I appreciate all your comments!
Very nice tour i9, lovely to watched
I kind of wish I never watched this video. Now I need to get some sweet Industry Nine wheels and stems for my bikes. 😍

A crisp being what youd call a potato chip in the US
😁
I love this freakin company
The spokes thread into the hub?? I've never seen that. Straight pull, yes, but not like that. Do other brands do that?
Yes, other brands have done this sort of thing in the past. It's a slightly simpler system, as there are no nipples to break or round off.
Probably both🤣🤣😍🤩
Building up my hydra's onto my carbon 30 hoops, can't wait to here that angry bag of wasps from the rear hub chasing me down the trails
