At about 4:10 minutes you mention 'grey seal out on the disc side'; if you were to remove the grey seal would it be the ball bearing side or the inner race side of the bearing? Also, phenomenal service video and a big part of the reason I ended up with Hydra hubs! Cheers
Great video, but does your cassette really pop off that easy? Or is there a step that's missing from the video? Dude just pulled it off with 1 finger! Mine doesnt do that.
Believe it or not more than half of their customers wants a quieter sound, i think those are the older people. Considering 16 year old cant really afford it. LOL
So cool! Neat how you use the axle as a punch to remove the bearings! What is that blue grease you are using in that grease gun, a marine type of grease, like Lucas Oil?
Perhaps I missed something but I did not see how to remove the axle without knocking the bearings out. I've axle play on my rear hydra but the bearings seem fine.
Seriously! All this guys on youtube wasting so much grease They apply so much grease then wipe 90% of the grease they apply. I have a tub of grease i bought in Asia in 2001 it was use on so many things but still has so many left because i have a tiny paint brush inside. Also on bike works i use a tootpick to apply grease on tiny areas. 90% of the lube the industry use goes to the garbage as excess.
Grease to the outboard face if both bearings? But not the DuMonde grease? Looks like a green grease rather than the white DuMonde grease for the pawls, correct?
Our Hydra classic hubs are built for traditional j bend spokes. The Hydra system hubs are designed to work in tandem with our proprietary aluminum spokes. The internals are the same on both!
if I had a second wheel set with the same Hydra hub in boost , can I swap the cassette back and forth between wheels without messing up anything on the hydra?
I notice occasionally my freewheel will arbitrarily become quieter and then eventually louder again. Is this a cause for concern or is the grease just periodically migrating around inside the housing?
It's more based on feel than anything. If the bearings start to feel grindy it's probably time for a change. It also doesn't hurt to clean out the freehub body and re-apply grease every ~6 months just to ensure everything is running smoothly.
What other options of lube can be used?? Pandemic made international shippings unavailable in my country and there is a industrial bearing supplier that sells Timken , SKF,Loctite greases and there is this Loctite Lb 8034 used for o-ring installations Pao based oil with calcium sulphonate it has like the same texture of that Dumonde grease, as for the oil I think maybe Shimano mineral oil can work?
That is an excellent question. I'd like to know the same thing. What's the recommendation for end-cap grease that's water repellant and kind to the end-cap material? Marine grease would work but there are multiple marine grease choices.
Wow.! Can u point me in the right direction for a set of wheels for an orbea Rallon m10 2018 29er n all the tools needed please. Brilliant vid very precise thanks 🤟
The Dumonde tech hub oil is unfortunately not available in europe. I would need to import it from america. Could you please recommend a good alternative? Thanks a lot :)
Hi guys my cassette/freehub won't pull off the wheel. In the video it looks easy, but my freehub is definitely not coming loose just by pulling on the cassette firmly (or even extra firmly). Hydra with Microspline, only 2 months old. Any ideas?
I'm late to the party, but just stumbled on this. It's the end cap that's stuck firmly on the axle holding everything on. Use some pliers to carefully pull and unseat the end cap first, you won't be able to completely remove it cause the cassette will be in the way. You should be able to pull the whole cassette/freehub assembly like in the video. Hope this helps.
Hey guys if I have a non-boost 12x142 32H Hydra HUB can I change any part to reach 12x148 32H or 28H, really appreciate it if someone replied or share any link
I've been really disappointed with my Hydra hubs. I can't even get a thousand miles out of them for the free hub bearings need replacing. It's pretty unacceptable. DT. 350s on my hardtail can take 8000 mi plus without needing to be changed.
wow! as an engineer, kudos to the designer who designed this...
its very easy and not requiring many special tools....
greatjob
Excellent video and kudos for making these hubs so easy to service!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for making a good concise video.
Great Vid , love my Hydra's, very keen to keep them in tip top shape , so good that you guys share the required info !! #lifestooshortforshitbikes
Boris you from ex USSR?
great vid thanx for doing it.. just one thing u can prolly find a socket or any cylinder shaped tube to punch bearings out evenly...
so touching for an excellent video

How many months do we need to maintain it?
I have no hydra but im here 😎 im glad my hub was like hydra hubs no tool needed to service 💓✨
Thank you for this!
Love my hubs, best sound ever
This really makes me want to buy a Wheels Mfg press!
How much are those bearing adapters and press going to cost? Just wondering if it’s worthwhile to do at home or just bring it to a shop.
75€
Hello, how often should the Hydra be greased? Thanks and regards

Mine popped right off just like the video.

a normal bb tool and socket wrenches would work also
what's the difference between hydra classic and hydra
Our Hydra classic hubs are built for traditional j bend spokes. The Hydra system hubs are designed to work in tandem with our proprietary aluminum spokes. The internals are the same on both!
No grease placed on the mating faces for the outboard bearing I noticed in the video. Even though the other bearing was greased
That is actually very easy ti sevice but how much do these cost?
You can recoup the costs of these tools after 3 full service with new bearings.
if I had a second wheel set with the same Hydra hub in boost , can I swap the cassette back and forth between wheels without messing up anything on the hydra?
I notice occasionally my freewheel will arbitrarily become quieter and then eventually louder again. Is this a cause for concern or is the grease just periodically migrating around inside the housing?
If your freewheel is loud then your hub needs grease if not then there's still grease on it. I occassionally grease my hub too so it will become quiet
How often should I be servicing my hydra hubs? 40 houses of riding?
It's more based on feel than anything. If the bearings start to feel grindy it's probably time for a change. It also doesn't hurt to clean out the freehub body and re-apply grease every ~6 months just to ensure everything is running smoothly.
Can you use DT Swiss Special free hub grease for this?
Yes u can 👌🏼
is the centerlock drift set absolutely necessary, or can the 6bolt drift kit work as well on centerlock hubs.
Just ordered my I9 Hydra wheelset Grade 300 for my Turbo Levo Comp 😅

When you get a new hydra hub does the drive ring have grease on it? Mine is really loud and I want it quieter.
All hubs will have grease on the freehub pawls and drive rings, pack more in there if you want it quieter.
So you should be able to push the freehub back on? Maybr im doing something wrong because mine isn't going on by me pushing back in
Make sure to spin it.
Is this available for a 12 speed shimano cassette ?
Yeah it is check on their website they do have microspline
Yes, i9 microspline driver
hey guys what punch can you recommend for the job of removing the freehub bearings? i need to buy one but no idea what sort?
Blind bearing puller/slide hammer set. £30 for a cheap set off Amazon/eBay etc.
Can i use sram greese to lubrcate the hub
Without knowing exactly what sram grease you are referring to - We recommend DumondTec Freehub Oil.
I recently got a Hydra as a replacement to my Torch. I call it my Wu Tang Killah Beez Hub.
