      We won the 2007 RWC without playing any of the top 3 rugby nations. The one competitive side we played was England and the Pumas. The 2019 RWC is special because we played NZ, Wales, Japan and England again. So we can't fully say 2007 was a golden generation.

    The game was the pinnacle of perfect rugby ever played. This was both the most boring and the most amazing game to watch. I don't think South Africa (or any nation) will ever produce the most perfected team. I think the best way to describe the game: It was turned into a business procedure. The Springboks, knew with absolute confidence their opposition and they knew exactly how they were going to win. They had no intention to run the ball and attempt a try. Instead they were purely focused on handing the ball to the English, turn to a defensive game, force the English to make a mistake, gain a penalty, kick for the posts and get their points. The strategy worked to the point that it looked like the South Africans had figured exactly what they were going to do down to the second ahead of time.
    .
    Not only was this the most intellectually advanced team ever created, but the were probably the most perfect athletic team too.
    .
    This game should go down in history as the most perfect rugby game ever played.

    • @thobelandlebe4634
      @thobelandlebe4634 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem with most of us who don't really know how these strategies work is that all we expect is a "running" game. John Smit says clearly that the plan was eliminate risks and stick to the script. History shows that it worked. You are absolutely correct in your analysis about the match itself. I tell you this however, nobody agrees with you 'cos all they want to see are tries and more tries.

      Even if that try had counted I don't think England would have won. They were in crisis before the World Cup started, I think it was the experience and leadership of a few key players that got them to the final. South Africa were a much better unit, more like England had been in 2003.

    • @arandombard1197
      @arandombard1197 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a game of Rugby and they didn't score a single try. A penalties only win is okay for a group stage or maybe an early knockout but to fail to score a single try in a world cup final? It was basically decided by which infractions the ref chose to penalize. Let's be honest, both teams probably made 10+ penalty worthy mistakes in that game. If you watch it slow-mo frame by frame you can point them all out. But most are missed by the referee. That's okay in a game where 3-8 tries are scored. But in a game of 0? It's basically chance. If South Africa was the better team, they would have scored a try.

    The Springboks really half assed this final but they were the worthy winners. They were under a lot of pressure that year to win as it was expected of them. They had some of the best players in the world in pretty much most positions of the pitch thst year. A year later tgey wallooed England 42-6 which scoreline wise showed the true gulf in class between these sides. England werent up agsinst the kak versions of these sides like they were in 2003. Credit to this England side as well i rated them higher than their 2003 side.
