    Why is ND getting so much hate? They cannot EVER be ranked higher than 5 in this new format. The old argument was “they don’t play in a conference so they don’t have an extra game to maybe lose.” What’s the argument now? There are going to be a lot of teams in the playoff moving forward who did not play in their conference championship, but will still make it

    "Every Saturday in the Fall being meaningful" was not what occurred last year. One team played 13 meaningless games (that they thought were meaningful) and then played an additional meaningless game where they rolled out with a practice squad and frankly who could blame them?

    • @theonenationpopulist
      @theonenationpopulist 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      The regular season isn’t meaningful just because it gives you a chance to make it to the playoffs. Every game IS meaningful, except to casuals that think making it to the playoffs is all that matters. Georgia didn’t make it in yet they treated their bowl game like it meant something and smoked an ingrate team that doesn’t care about real football

    I've spelled it out pretty clearly, but what transpires after 2025 is what matters. Sankey and Petitti realize that the number of schools who can make the leap to pay for play, allow for collective bargaining, pay the non revenue athletes as well as the revenue athletes and allow NIL across the spectrum of sports, and do all of that utilizing contracts to at least contain the use of the transfer portal, to an extent, are likely under 60.
    If your field is 56 or less then everything can be contained within the Big 10 and SEC and if they negotiate wrights deals together as the two conferences in that professional tier, then they can have their own playoff utilizing 16 schools, giving 28% of the participants in the upper tier playoff access and allowing the Big10/SEC to get a 50/50 split with the networks after expenses.
    That kind of break puts all schools in those two conferences in the 85 to 90 million dollar range for starters.
    What I'm hearing is that there is no desire to have to make decisions deferring to schools who cannot afford to make the jump. That this time the only way full compliance can be attained is to be free of any considerations which reside with the NCAA or any tier below that of the Big 10 and SEC. They'll chart their own course and the allow any who are committed to the full compliance and which can afford the leap to make application. That makes it an opt in and not an exclusive grouping.
    What happens below that tier will be the purview of those in it. This current playoff configuration still has the top tier obligated to meet the needs of the lower tiers. While this could be done under amateurism, it is a major hindrance to full compliance moving forward. A separation is coming.

    • @JvariW
      @JvariW 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Everyone agrees that a separation is coming. I’m not sure if it’ll be exactly what you said. It will most likely start with the death of the NCAA. Then that will set the stage for future changes.

    Notre Dame is FINE with this model, they will play the same number of games (16) to win a Natty as everyone else, and if highly ranked their first CFP game will be an easier one than a conference championship game. And haters can relax, ND has an average strength of schedule in the top 20 over their history. It is a MYTH they play easy schedules.

  • @DonPeezyWeezy
    @DonPeezyWeezy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would have to disagree with your meaningful football take. The 4 team playoff virtually eliminated any team with more than 1 loss which made most teams regular seasons meaningless early on.
    Expanding to twelve or even a couple more means more meaningful games from seeding purposes to just getting in. They do it in hs and FCS and it works GREAT. Bout time it happens for FBS

    Expand to 16 teams playoffs.
    Reduce regular season games to 11 games and eliminate cupcake out of conference and "Conference Championships" games. The "conference champions" can be determined through round-robin schedule like Big XII did from 2011 - 2016.
    Realign into 8 superconferernces and automatic bid for 8 "conference champions" and 8 at large bids. No more than 2 at large bids per conference which will force talent to be spread out more evenly across conferences making the games more competitive and exciting the whole season.
    Home field advantage for "conference champions" for 1st round (Sweet 16)
    Elite 8 (quarterfinals), Final 4 (semifinals), and Finals on neutral sites.
    This is the way that all teams heading into playoffs will never play each other more than twice in a season and all teams play same number of games (no byes).

      @@nathanlederman5130 “an awful Ohio State & Penn State” 😂😂😂, Ohio State was a way better win than any win FSU had and Michigan had their starting QB healthy (which OBVIOUSLY has an impact on overall team performance). Not to mention Michigan had been more consistently dominant throughout the season.
      And “not every team expects to go to the playoffs” every team does actually very much expect that, or at least they want it and are disappointed when they don’t get there. Georgia won like 30 games in row, lost one game to Bama, and missed the playoffs, yet they still played in their bowl game like it mattered. FSU played the easiest schedule out of all the power five champs, had the worst top win against LSU at their weakest point, was the only one without their starting QB and was the least statistically dominant of all the power five champs in overall terms. It was a close call because Bama did lose a game & FSU didn’t, but ultimately it was set up right

    College football regular season will always have a lot of meaning. By making the playoff 12 teams, teams get a free pass for one loss and more teams will be in contention in November. You don’t think teams fighting for a bye in the first round will diminish the regular season? Forcing teams to play in a meaningless bowl game who are good enough to compete for the national title, had to end. Another advantage to a 12 team playoff means we get meaningful games in December at the home field of the higher seed. I am most excited to see some great matchups in the first round as well. Who wouldn’t want to watch Ole Miss come in to Wisconsin in a foot of snow when the wind is blowing and the temperature is at zero?

      Realistically, aside from the G5 team in any given year, the auto bid would basically be redundant, to the extent that the major conference champions would fall within the top 12 teams. Beyond that, I don’t mind conference champions receiving a cognizable benefit in the form of a bye, if that’s how they want to do it. A major conference championship can be worth something to the CFP. It would not, IMO, break whatever fundamental fairness exists in this 12 team format.

    1. Get rid of the conference championship games so we can eliminate the automatic bids and bias based at larges 2. Model the rankings off the BCS model (statistically based) so we can eliminate bias, perception, and gut feelings and it incentivizes difficult schedules and winning regular season games (Week 1 rankings would be based off of LAST years records) 3. Expand to 16 teams so no one has a bye (like the best teams in the nation need more help) 4. The first two rounds need to be played at the higher ranked teams field, the semi final can be something like the cotton bowl and fiesta bowl, and the Natty should be played at the Grand daddy of the them 5. All other bowls can be for teams who didn't make the playoff 4/5. OR just make all playoff games home games for the higher seed throughout the entire playoff which incentivizes winning in the regular season and playing difficult opponents because the rankings are statistically based

    weve had a playoff for 10 years now and from the beginning everyone saw that conference champions were going to have the best shots at getting in and that was going to be the way going forward, ND has chosen to remain independent in football the whole time (minus 1 year) college football cannot and should not attempt to cater or keep ND involved in the picture over the collective groups of schools, they want an easier path to the playoff? well its been staring you in the face for 10+ years now, join a conference for football, a lot of their big games and rivals are in the big ten now anyway and they are geographically in the middle of it, just make more sense at this point to join.

  • @collegebro85

    Been saying it all along, but it should be EVERY conference champ from the 10 conferences (maybe exclude PAC-2 unless they are 11-1 or 12-0) followed by the next 2-3 highest ranked teams. ND plays a better schedule than 98% of CFB, so they should be given a spot if they make a run, which also means each conference has ONLY 2-3 teams at most!
    THAT is how you keep it competitive and ensure ALL are represented!
