No, 8 is the most!!! It rewards too many teams for screwing up in the regular season!!! And, I am a die hard Nittany Lions 🦁 fan, so even though we would have been in a few years lately, I still feel 12 is way too much!!! WE ARE
It might devalue the regular season for the top tier teams, but even they will still have byes at stake, for everyone else it actually makes the regular season more exciting and important.
Everybody says it devalues the regular season for top programs, but I disagree with that. Those teams still want to win their rivalries, they still want conference titles, they want the bye week, it still means everything to them! It might mean less to the fans but it means everything to them still. The expanded format raises the stakes for more teams and makes more games matter, and opens up the door for more awesome and unique matchups. The end of the season has more value.
@@SpartanPM4K The other thing is that your team is no longer eliminated after 1 or 2 losses. For example, once LSU lost to Ole Miss, any playoff hopes were done, and they really didn't have much to play for. Same with Penn State after losing to Michigan.
@@nathanvandyke9951 Eh, I'm okay with that. If a 2 loss team wins it all, they would've had to go through like 3 playoff rounds of the top teams to get there and at least 1 of the top 4. That's well fought if you ask me. A top team losing after a bye week is no excuse to me because they had more prep time and less risk of injuries to key players so they should be more than ready to play, and they deserve that break as a reward for being the best in the regular season. But, would a 2 loss team even be able to do that? That's what we're really asking. Having to play and win more games to get there undoubtedly makes it harder, and the national champion is all the more deserving of the title. Plus, the NFL has more than a 4 team playoff with less teams, and people still say the NFL is better despite the fact that we all can see the mediocrity of the NFL. Another thing is that the 2 loss teams will have to worry about missing the cut to the top G5 spot, which could be embarrassing depending on which P5 team doesn't make the cut.
@@nathanvandyke9951 I also understood what you said in a different way. LSU and PSU would still have motivation to play after a loss so it's more exciting for them
You mean less meaningful games as conference championships are now heavily devalued. 12 teams is a ploy for more money. Should be power 5 conference champs with highest ranked group of 5. Highest ranked get byes, first two games are home sites, then use your new years bowl as semis.
This is the first year that I can remember that any of the top 10 teams could get hot right now and win it all if we had a big playoff bracket! There isn’t an elite team in the NCAA this season that I’ve seen! If Ohio St and Michigan had to play Bama’s schedule they would have losses! Going on the road to play in front of sold out crowds at Texas, Tennessee, LSU, Ole Miss is not easy but going thru the SEC is treacherous to begin with! Look how well Texas A&M played at home against LSU or how well South Carolina played at the end of the season! The Big 10 is just weak once you get past Michigan and OSU but they only look that good because the conference is weak!
I’d like to see those teams up there have fall camp in the south Also, the team that ran the big 10 the last decade recruits from the south and west coast lmao
@@ammoniawilder4451 have you ever been to a place like Ohio in the summer? My brother lives in Ohio and its ridiculously humid there they get subtropical air in the summer and arctic in the winter, it’s a schizophrenic climate.
This also gives teams a chance that have drastically improved over the season after they may have lost 1 or 2 games. There will still be arguments for those that get in. But the championship game as an automatic bid into the playoff is a great way to determine teams, being that a few conferences did away with the championship to try and preserve their top team into 1 of the 4 spots by not giving them another game to possibly lose and then lose a spot in the 4 team playoff.
Dude love your video I'm so glad I discovered this channel. One major exciting thing you forgot to talk about though is that teams will host playoff games! Clemson will be going INTO Penn State to play the Nittany Lions. That game will be lit imagine how crazy the fans will be going.
Matt, once again you are spot on! More college football the better, and for the exciting reasons you have stated. Case in point - the several upsets that have happened in the last couple weeks. Going forward with the 12 team playoff system, what an opportunity to see Cinderella teams advance.
Another good thing about expanded playoffs is that me and probably other people as well usually just watch their teams bowl game and the playoffs, now I would try and watch every single game in the 12 team playoff so more money for them and more entertainment for me
Bowl games, especially the "lesser" ones, aren't for us, the fans. It's a reward for the school and especially the seniors that are playing their last organized football game ever.
i wished it would have been that way all along.....we screwed many teams out of playing for something...im a bama fan and i love when we have something to play for....thanks for the vid....keep us updated cause i heard a few little birds say it could be sooner....just remember that brother....roll tide
Nah, more is not always better. I like the current format because , first, it's unique in it format, second, I want the best of the best at the end, otherwise don't watch any regular season games and just wait for the playoffs. So Matt, not everyone who is against it is weird, not everyone is required to like the same thing. Think about it, the FCS has 24 teams, how many of those games do you watch yearly?????? Crickets. I can hear it now, there will be 12 teams, then 16, then 32, it's crazy. I love the fact that I live and die every weekend with my team. I do not want to see an 8-4 team in there even if they win their conference. And please, don't tell me about the NFL and their wildcard systems, why does college have to be like the pros? Yeah, I know it's about more money, but how much of that are YOU going to receive? Call me crazy, but I still believe in the student athlete, some people actually do care about education. I'm not saying everyone now, but there are some who want an education. So, I am ok with 4 teams, and I am 60 years old have watched a lot of football, and I want the season to mean something. I like the rivalries, I like tradition, and I like all that was football growing up. I know some of you will come at me, but whatever, but it's my opinion, at least for now.
Amen brother, I posted damn near the same thing, I said it would go to 32 in five years and 64 in 10 years, the 64 was a joke though, and the college athlete loses, espn personalities say they are for it because that's their livelihood, they are going against their paycheck. Espn wants this and bankrolled the 450 mil, they are not gonna let their people talk bad about it. That's why everyone at espn is trying to give you reasons it's great. Not why corporations are ruining another sport, this one for kids/young adults.
The problem I'm thinking is that if you dont go to a conference championship it's giving you a huge advantage example from this year: Ohio State, Penn state and Alabama.
Georgia fan here GO DAWGS! I am for more teams in playoffs it will make things more interesting certainly. However I can’t but worry that some of them will be blowouts. Still I say let’s give it a go an see what happens.
I like the old bowl system but that was the era I grew up in, what the 12 team I think will do will help the conferences get stronger. SEC is way ahead and prove it on the field in post season year after year but if 12 teams instead of 4 get in I would think recruiting would get better and more parity across the country may happen. All these top recruits want to go to the playoff so more teams more opp to go. May take several years for it to show but I think it has a chance.
when the 4 team playoff format first came out i remember hearing talks about them expanding it. that was like literally the first rumor i heard when they introduced the 4 team playoff format. i feel like they did that just to see how successful a playoff format would be in the college level. turns out it was pretty profitable and now they can look to expand that even further. i think the final 4 games should the orange bowl, the rose bowl, the sugar bowl, and the fiesta bowl. then the games after that are the final 4. then the national championship. i know those games have been synonymous with certain conferences but why not. after all i believe it could just continue to make ncaa a whole lot of money.
One more thing to add that is added is we get to see College Football Playoff Played in College Football Stadiums with this 12 team playoff format it might be only for the first round I'm already ecstatic for this ngl
Matt, I just deleted my whole comment because you covered the opposite side accurately in your video and I was typing it out before your video was finished. Love your video layout and I must say your videos have slowly moved up my must watch list. As a OU fan in Knoxville I started watching you when you was trashing Rattler but you listened to the comments and slowly come around to Rattler not actually being a piece of trash like the original stereotype was. You change your opinion according to the information and insite you gather. Not many people are capable of doing that. Plus you lay out multiple points of view in your video and I love it. Keep up the Great Work!!!
I love the new playoffs and I cant wait for all the great games to be played. This will also add in-conference rivalries during the regular season, because every team will be wanting a conference championship bid.
Great video. Almost convinced me 12 is better than 8, but I’m still an 8 team proponent to make the playoff itself fair. I have heard there is no requirement for the conferences to have a championship game, so I’m afraid that a 12 team pool then leads to the elimination of the great conference championships we’ve seen the last dozen years. They’ll just determine conference champion based on regular season outcome and not beat up their representatives in the playoff
I've been asking for this since I was a kid. A 4-team """"""""playoff"""""""" is a complete joke. Always has been and always will be. I remember when the format was first announced, and I just exclaimed "WHAT? Only 4 teams??" You can't call a 4-team semifinal a "playoff." 12 teams is going to be great. I'm sooooo happy it's finally happening!!!!
Mark my words. When we start having the same 2-4 teams reaching the Final Four and two of those teams are from the same conference (SEC) and it is a rematch of either a regular season game and/or Conference Championship people are going to want the playoffs expanded even more. Then the natty wont be held until mid January the week before NFL Conferences championships.
Solid video. Well done, Sir......I'm a Clemson fan and do not believe we deserve to play for a national title this year. But this format would still be very fun to watch!
In order for the 12 team playoff to work the regular season has to be either shorter or start earlier. The problem with a 12 team playoff is that injuries and the health of the players since the season is extended. The nfl added an extra game to the regular season and many players didn't liked that for the same reason so if it doesn't work in league, the odds of add more games in college is unlikely but I could be wrong.
Well, the first round is Dec 19th in 2024, it's supposed to be week ending 21st, then I think they add a extra week in January, season still starts at same time and ends same time
D1-FCS play around the same amount of games and have playoff system like the 12-team one. And they start at the same time as the FBS schools. The playoffs would start next week probably for FBS if the 12 team was in place.
I’m happy for the new format. Lightyears better than what it has been for sure. I wouldn’t mind seeing a little more G5 representation though. They do take up the majority of conferences after all.
As a fan of a Group of Five team, I agree with you on everything, this should have gone in last year! You especially nailed it on conference titles, make conference titles matter again! Remember that time Penn State beat Ohio State AND went on to win the Big Ten, and it was still Ohio State that got in? And this year, TCU loses the Big 12 championship but still gets in, what was the point in that? Make it freaking matter again! And give Group of Five teams a freaking reason to stay in FBS, it's nuts how an FBS team can do everything asked of them, and the best it gets them is "a good bowl." Now it actually looks like we're all here for a reason! Only thing about what you said, "top six conference champions," wouldn't it technically be possible for two Group of Five champions to outrank a Power Five champion, with the right conditions? Said Power Five champion would probably still get in as an At-Large, but anyway, a lot of chances for good things to happen!
The 12 team playoff will be awesome. It’s not going to be the top 2 teams every year. Last year the National championship winning team was not the top 2 teams. In 04 five teams ended the year undefeated. Auburn and Utah were undefeated and really good. Yet SC was the National Champs. Also this year if Alabama this year with 2 loss’s could still beat any team in the country. They are still the most talented team in the country. Playoffs are a must. The sweet 16 never has the same teams in. This year Utah and KSU would be in the playoffs. It is going to prove who is best. Right now we are not really sure because it’s not proven on the field. In the NCAA there are Zero arguments who is the best when the nets are cut down. I have never heard anyone with brain cells state that the 73 ranked team was the best.
I think it will be essential then to make sure the best two teams in the conference play each other. Obviously in the Big Ten the best two teams did not play each other for the conference Championship and that's why Purdue even had a chance.
Matt, I'm 100% on your side. This will make those last few regular season games more meaningful since more teams will be in the hunt at that point. Also the playoff games themselves will be very fun to watch.
what about the teams that are ranked in the top 4 and pretty much guaranteed a spot? when will players start to sit games if they don't need to take unnecessary risks until the playoff games start?
Devaluing the championship game heavily in this model. Should be power 5 conference champs and highest group of 5 champ. Top 2 get byes, home sites for other games. Use new years bowl as semis like they do now. 12 teams is just a ploy to jack up tv rights and make more money
Yeh season still matters it gives you bye games and home field advantage plus it gives a littler division team chance to have cinderella stories. Also it gives teams like TENN who is one of the only teams if not the only that has to play BAMA and GEORGIA every year in their schedule and beating 1 of them is hard to beat both is difficult and really isnt fair compared to the rest of college teams. People like the NFL playoffs and teams barely made a wildcard can win the superbowl and had.
What I don’t get is how the bowl game will work. So the quarter final is a bowl, and the semi final is a bowl? So a team on their way to the championship gets an extra bowl game essentially.
I never saw how it devalues the reg season, every sport has a different energy in the air for playoffs and on top of that is teams like USC etc will be playing their hearts out find yourself in the lower half of bracket taking the chance to play in cold and snow all playoffs
I think it revalue the seasons and provide all the conferences a change to prove themselves like the ACC PAC12 BIG10 MountainWest SEC MAC Independence and Ivey D1 leagues
My biggest critisism of the 12 team format comes from the reactions so far from coaches and players. Take for instance... Alabama this year. In the 4 team format, they have a 12 game regular season, plus a championship game if they qualify. Then either a bowl game, or up to 2 playoff games. This puts a season between 12-15 games. Under the new format, if you are not one of the top 4 ranked teams, instead of a max of 2 playoff games, you could end up playing up to 4 playoff games. Now 2 more games might not seem like a lot, but if you have ever talked to a coach or a player, they will tell you just how much work and effort goes into prepping for every game. You also have to factor in other variables. 2 more games means more games for player injuries. The new transfer window is also in this time period. Both the physical and mental health of these players need to be accounted for. As a spectator, the new 12 team playoffs are fantastic and I can't wait to see these games with their stakes in action. But the chaos that this adds to the players and coaches lives during an already busy time make me hesitant to feel good about it yet.
At first I thought an 8 team playoff would have been sufficient but I have been swayed to embrace this 12 team format. Conference championships are relevant again, a guaranteed G5 spot so no more excuses and what ifs, and the best non- conference Champs get an at large bid. I see no problems here and the first team out will have little compelling argument as opposed to #3 in the BCS or #5 in the current system. Conference championship guarantees also eliminate at least some Conference biases, although you may still end up with stacked SEC at-large bids or to a lesser extent the B1G.
An 8 team playoff with conference champion autobids, is really an 18 team playoff because conference games become playoff games. It also allows for the people that like to argue to put 2 teams into the final 8. 12 teams is too many. We're trading the regular season for nothing because a 12 team playoff adds the same amount of games as an 8 game playoff.
I can't believe there's opposition to a larger play off... I've been wanting it for the entire 1 year I've watched football. I always wondered why they're different than every other sport w/ it being so small amount of teams that get into the natty...
If you take a look at the 8 teams that would've been part of this year's playoff, (under the proposed new format), each of them could make it to the championship game. Whether or not they WIN IT is a whole other matter., but they could actually get there. And outside teams could qualify too. (Depending on how conference championships shake out.) Teams like LSU, Oregon, Washington, & Vanderbilt. 😂 VANDERBILT!? Ha, Ha. But seriously folks...
So playing for a power 5 conference championship is playing for nothing? I can't buy that argument. It certainly matters to SEC and Big10 folks. Of course it is not the ultimate prize, but it is not nothing.
Im a pennstate fan I have been waiting for this for a long time ever since Ohio State gotten over Penn State even though we beat them in the regular season I have been wanting the 12 team playoff. I’m excited. I also can see my team play Oregon or Pitt if they get good it would be nice.
There are just as many extra games as an 8 team playoff only now conference championships are punishments for teams that are making the playoffs either way and the regular season games hold a lot less value. We still have 2 spots to for teams that the people that like to argue rather than let it play out on the field.
what people don't seem to realize is technically this is a 16 team playoff. The fact that the highest ranked 4 conference champion teams get an automatic bid, means that basically the power 4 conference championship games are actually playoff games. So yes we are getting a 16 team playoff.
If they had used their brains when they setup the playoff format initially, they would've already had an 8 or 12 team format. A four team playoff never solved the BCS problems. I can't wait to have more championship caliber CFB!!!
Hopefully they’ll expand it like certain soccer tournaments like the UCL where there’s group stages. Top 4 teams from each group advance to the next round and then it becomes a single elimination tournament from there
I like your comment. I've been saying that for years. I think just like the nfl, you should have a schedule based on conferences and divisions. For example. This year Georgia is the sec champion, michigan from the big ten, Utah(pac12) clemson etc. Michigan should have to face clemson or something first game of the year, Utah vs Georgia etc. Then take the second place teams like Ohio st vs lsu , Penn st vs Alabama, Tennessee vs Purdue, lsu vs Maryland etc. Then the second week, have it reversed. Michigan gets to play Vandy, Georgia gets to play Rutgers. The 3rd week all teams can play a cupcake game, the. Start conference play 4th week. The matchups don't necessarily have to be who was 1 at the end vs 2, just randomize the conferences and play better opponents based off conference strengths. Yes, some conferences have more teams than others, so the left out teams will have to figure out suitable games with other schools, but under no circumstances should the schools ever be allowed to "create" their schedules. If the goal for teams like Michigan and ohio st to play Akron or eastern Michigan to give them money, then set aside the funds and give it to them. Nobody wants to see that. I'm a michigan season ticketholder and I never go to crap games like Mac or something like rice or Nevada or Hawaii. Waste of time.
I don’t see how anyone can be against the 12 teamer. It won’t devalue the regular season that much, but will make the playoffs a hundred times more watchable and exciting.
I think it will good because it will make the "Better" teams, for example Alabama, Georgia, etc. Play those games hard so they dod not get upset. And there may be some of the lesser known teams making it to the championship.
12 teams is too many. I like the 6 conference champions getting it. That adds value and excitement to the season. Adding 6 more teams makes playing in a conference championship a punishment for teams that are locks. If I'm Michigan, Georgia, USC or TCU, I'm going to play my backups in the conference championship because I'm getting in anyway and it would push better competition out of the playoffs with the automatic bids. 8 teams is the sweat spot. It lets in the conference champions and allows for two teams that lose that game to still get in. The people that like to argue over who gets in can still argue and and pick two teams. Six random teams is too many and makes the regular season less exciting. You say you like this because it's more football, but you devalue the entire regular season for nothing because and 8 team playoff would have the same number of games. The 12 teams system clearly sucks.
I’d be more inclined to support 8 than 6, because with 6 you have the risk of teams either getting rid of OOC or OOC serving no value at all. What happens if you have Coastal Carolina beat Clemson who wins the ACC during OOC play, but UCF goes undefeated? Coastal would be sitting out and watching a team they beat make the playoffs. This is rare to occur but it happened with the BCS bowls in 04, 08, 09 and 10. Another issue with 6 comes with when there are 3 way ties for conferences. This season, a question would be raised with Washington vs Oregon Had Oregon won, Oregon would play USC for the PAC, even though Oregon and Washington have the same conerence record and Washington beat them. We have also seen this happen historically with LSU, Tenn, Georgia in 07, USC, Kansas, Mizzou, and Oklahoma in 07, Oregon and Oregon State in 08, Texas Oklahoma and Texas Tech in 08 etc. This is why you do inevitably still need some at large spots to cover this historical situation.
It devalues the regular season. No one will schedule tough non conference games (why would you?) Strength of schedule doesn't mean anything. Games like Michigan vs OSU will no longer carry a do or die meaning. Players will sit out more games.
I understand those saying it will diminish the regular season, but honestly, it won't do it by much. We're trading a little importance in the regular season for more teams playing meaningful games in November trying to get in, while also getting an extra month of top-rated matchups from December through January. Overall, I think it's going to be a lot of fun to watch, and also has the benefit of ending all the bickering about which teams got screwed and how rankings are biased. If you can't make a 12 team field, no one cares what your complaints are. I was against it at first, but the more I hear and think about it, this will be fun. They really should get rid of the conference championships though... the winner of the natty could potentially be playing 17 games... idk if that's a good thing.
I've been waiting for a real college football playoff since I started watching college football as a kid 34 years ago. It's long over due . I think there should there should be 16 teams like Division 1 DOUBLE A
I’m 50/50 for it, cuz it takes the excitement off teams like Alabama, that try to keep a perfect record, on going all the way undefeated, it makes it easier for power house teams, 50/50 for it
I've been an avid football fan ever since I was 4 years old (I'm now in my 40s). I've never been a fan of college football, because I hated the process of determining a national champion. Call me old-school, but I'd prefer a postseason setup that's the same as professional sports. With that said, I'm psyched that the postseason is expanding. I will now be watching college football due the post season expansion. 🙂
Do you know what would be funny? If there came a year where a four or five loss Power 5 team pulled an upset in their conference title game and it allowed two Group of 5 champions to get in and left a Power 5 champion out. Now, such a scenario would not happen often, but this format does leave open the possibility for that.
Could have happened if we had the expanded playoffs this year and if Purdue had upset Michigan. Would have happened a few years ago also when either the Pac-12 or ACC champion wasn't ranked.
I've waited since I was a kid !!! My best friend growing up used to spend the night at my house anytime he could. We would play sports outside all day and at night after dinner it was MADDEN FOOTBALL... We dreamed of the possibilities of video games and how college football was so awesome but also needed playoffs !!! Seriously we couldn't understand their ridiculous process and the bowl games and who got the chance to play for the title. Well many many years later and were still waiting. These old money hungry vultures have kept the sport under lock 🔐 and reaped millions from a system that lined their pockets and never gave the FANS whom made it what it was, what they desired and made sense... same as all the corrupt politicians whom never ever once served or cared 1 shred about the people they " worked " for.. as a kid I thought the country was great and that most people were good people with the interests of their people and nation, what drove them... wow was I so wrong. The picture they want you to see and believe is so distorted and jaded, that pretty much everything is built on lies and deceit.... here's to hope for change in football and in life..
Yeah but they probably would have less titles….. The irony is immediate following the 2008 season an 8 team playoff was submitted and rejected by the NCAA…..
@@brian2440 I agree with you. I think much is overblown about the sec conference and yes while they have one or two dominant teams each year, the rest of the conference is above average/average just like anyone else. Their status is just propped up by preseason rankings. If they send two teams every year out of the 4 and if they never have to meet until the finals, then yea their possibilities as being champ are good.
I understand the power five championship winners will be in, who is the sixth conference to get in? You also know USC and UCLA will be accepted into the Big Ten. (That will shake things up a lot).
I forgot about the big 10 additions. Big 10 and SEC also doing away with east and west. Top2 play their conference chip. This should also push the independents into a conference (notre lame to ACC) .
The 4 team system now works well - with rare exceptions, everyone agrees who the top 4 are, which leads to one national champion. It used to be 64 teams playing in 32 bowl games, leaving 32 winners and no clear #1 (e.g. ‘97 Michigan & Nebraska). The injuries late in the season are detrimental to having 13+ games, just ask the Heisman hopefuls. Football is not basketball or baseball, with a broad playoff system and Cinderella teams to decide a national champ (sic).
Thing is that we don’t need more teams to make more games that matter. So what two or three more games matter at the end of the year with 12 team expansion. Expanding that much devalues 2 or 3 games a year for ALL teams in the regular season. Expansion should be capped to 6. All power five conference champions make it and then the highest ranked left over team. You inject added value into the championship weekend, add variety, and allow the potential for a G 5 school to make it. You only add one round to the playoffs and the 1 and 2 seed get a bye and don’t have any added wear and tear.
I have been saying there should be 12 team playoff similar to bball an hockey since the BCS was created. And yes upsets will happen. Look at this weekend where USC and TCU both lost games they were supposed to win. Bigger playoff will be more fun and exciting to watch. Hopefully they will use the bowls as playoff games to put more meaning to those games again.
Thank you I was arguing with somebody about a year ago when it came up and was like if anything it adds more comp cause there’s more teams fighting for spots, but since their lower tier teams there’s no value cause they’ll still be losing that upsets arnt that common
I think so all the minor bowl games will play out as usual. The Rose orange Fiesta sugar cotton and Peach bowls will be on rotation in the playoffs. I think the national championship game will be played in NFL stadiums Atlanta and Miami are hosting the first two.
After watching Tulane beat USC in their bowl game, the Cinderella stories are DEFINITELY possible
Lmao
After getting another 11 wins this last season, maybe it’s more than just a Cinderella story
Been waiting on either a 8 or 12 team playoff for soooo long. Glad they finally realized how big this will be

LSU and PSU would still have motivation to play after a loss so it's more exciting for them
Can’t wait for this 12 team playoff format to take place! Even more college football with even more to play for! Let’s go! ✌️
You mean less meaningful games as conference championships are now heavily devalued. 12 teams is a ploy for more money. Should be power 5 conference champs with highest ranked group of 5. Highest ranked get byes, first two games are home sites, then use your new years bowl as semis.
@@colinschenck2129 I mean conference championships are meaningless now only one has implications and that USC v. Utah.
I can’t wait to see 8 undeserving teams play for a championship. It’s already ruined baseball and now college football
The 12 team system adds a bunch of undeserving teams and no more games than an 8 team playoff.
Can't wait to see teams like Georgia, LSU and Alabama travel to Ann Arbor or Columbus in mid December lol.
I’d like to see those teams up there have fall camp in the south
Also, the team that ran the big 10 the last decade recruits from the south and west coast lmao
Won't happen unless it is played in a dome.
ROTFL. You think they would send an SEC team to Columbus or Ann Arbor. Sure! They will get favortism all the way just like they do now in the polls.
@@vistatiger7493 if you think the big 10 is nearly as good as the sec you don’t know football 😂
I'm glad they're finally expanding the playoffs. This is the way it should've been to begin with. Wish it would go into effect for next season. RTR!
Another good thing about expanded playoffs is that me and probably other people as well usually just watch their teams bowl game and the playoffs, now I would try and watch every single game in the 12 team playoff so more money for them and more entertainment for me
And the heavy devaluing of conference championships. They don't mean squat anymore
Bowl games, especially the "lesser" ones, aren't for us, the fans. It's a reward for the school and especially the seniors that are playing their last organized football game ever.
@@colinschenck2129 they don't matter now when teams get in without playing one.
i wished it would have been that way all along.....we screwed many teams out of playing for something...im a bama fan and i love when we have something to play for....thanks for the vid....keep us updated cause i heard a few little birds say it could be sooner....just remember that brother....roll tide
Boomer
The problem I'm thinking is that if you dont go to a conference championship it's giving you a huge advantage example from this year: Ohio State, Penn state and Alabama.
Please explain??
@@stephonwilliams5232 teams sitting home will get in over the conference championship loser
Dude great video. I can’t wait for the 12 team playoff!
That’s one way to look 👀 at it
I love the new playoffs and I cant wait for all the great games to be played. This will also add in-conference rivalries during the regular season, because every team will be wanting a conference championship bid.
Dog, why is your channel not over 300k. Love your vids, keep it up!!!
But they would make more money by having the champion ship, also there would probably be time between the confrence championships and the playoffs
I actually agree it honestly brings more value to conference championship games
You're not the only one! I agree! The end of the season means more with the expanded format! I love college football and I love the 12 team playoff!
As a successful businessman, I'm here to tell you it ADDS more value for sure.
Looking forward to 24!!!!
Not really, if anything it well pep the players for the nfl as the seasons are a lot longer
Well, the first round is Dec 19th in 2024, it's supposed to be week ending 21st, then I think they add a extra week in January, season still starts at same time and ends same time
I wonder if they should even have conference championship games? Its like the nfl now..
D1-FCS play around the same amount of games and have playoff system like the 12-team one. And they start at the same time as the FBS schools. The playoffs would start next week probably for FBS if the 12 team was in place.
Use the conference championship games as part of the system. How is that so hard to do?
Excellent breakdown! I'm looking forward to the new format. All the subject arguing for top 4 spots is gone and now more games have meaning!
No breakdown. It's just the top 12 teams giving the TOP 4 Bye's
The people arguing to keep 4 teams are mostly worried about it going too far and ending up like March Madness with 64 teams.
Wish it started this year!
I’m happy for the new format. Lightyears better than what it has been for sure. I wouldn’t mind seeing a little more G5 representation though. They do take up the majority of conferences after all.
i like how the conference champion regardless of record makes it in like college basketball with the big dance
Wow it finally happened ,I agree with everything you said!
because now Michigan doesn't have to run the table in their weak conference. They can still lose to Ohio State and Penn State and have playoff hopes.
Totally agree. Expand the playoff. Let the teams play. And just enjoy whatever happens. :)
I feel like the 12 team format would be the perfect format for college football.
Kill me with the “VEE-deo” and “MEE-chigan” and “THEE-is” 😂😂😂
I think it will be essential then to make sure the best two teams in the conference play each other.
So basically the NFL playoff format before going to 14 teams
By week 7 the wild card hunt will start keeping season games relevant not because of rankings to the top but because of biding to make the playoffs
I love it, the 12 team deal will be alot more exciting.
I can't believe there's opposition to a larger play off... I've been wanting it for the entire 1 year I've watched football. I always wondered why they're different than every other sport w/ it being so small amount of teams that get into the natty...
Very happy i'm all for this!!!! wish it was this year!
Just from the mere fact that a number 12 ranked team will now have the potential to win it all is exciting on its own.
12 is good, it will keep players from opting out of Bowl games I hope!
So playing for a power 5 conference championship is playing for nothing? I can't buy that argument. It certainly matters to SEC and Big10 folks. Of course it is not the ultimate prize, but it is not nothing.
The top 4 teams having to be perfect is what makes the regular season so much better. I think the top 10 is all that should be in.
Let’s have a 64 team playoff! We will have plenty of teams that were crushed on their home field instead of only one this year.
I agree with everything you said. Go Vols !
It’s gonna be awesome especially as an Oklahoma fan if we can get back on track we will make the playoffs every year
Im a pennstate fan I have been waiting for this for a long time ever since Ohio State gotten over Penn State even though we beat them in the regular season I have been wanting the 12 team playoff. I’m excited. I also can see my team play Oregon or Pitt if they get good it would be nice.
I can't wait for the 12 team playoff either Matt !!
Yes!! Yes!! Yes !!! More competition, more excitement, more FUN!!
ROLL TIDE!! 🐘 🏈
There are just as many extra games as an 8 team playoff only now conference championships are punishments for teams that are making the playoffs either way and the regular season games hold a lot less value. We still have 2 spots to for teams that the people that like to argue rather than let it play out on the field.
THANK GOD!!!!! FINALLY , WE WILL GET THE BEST TEAM IN THE COUNTRY AT LEAST A CHANCE TO PLAY FOR A TITLE!!!!!!!
Vanderbilt?
what people don't seem to realize is technically this is a 16 team playoff. The fact that the highest ranked 4 conference champion teams get an automatic bid, means that basically the power 4 conference championship games are actually playoff games. So yes we are getting a 16 team playoff.
8 teams it would have been less watered down
Finally, a 12 team makes much more sense.
I agree. 👏🏾 But perhaps a 24 team format like the FCS playoff bracket, would be better. 🤔
Matt is our papa
If they had used their brains when they setup the playoff format initially, they would've already had an 8 or 12 team format. A four team playoff never solved the BCS problems. I can't wait to have more championship caliber CFB!!!
Hopefully they’ll expand it like certain soccer tournaments like the UCL where there’s group stages. Top 4 teams from each group advance to the next round and then it becomes a single elimination tournament from there
The explanation is from 5:00 to 6:47
The best part of the 12 team playoff is that there is a good chance there will be more competitiveness in in-conference.
They should maken1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 and so forth play in week 1 the following year. That way you split them and gaurentee a loss for one playoff team.
Upsets are the BEST! This 12 team format will see end of season intensity vs. arcane seeding ho-hums.
You still want to win CCG they are auto qualifiers but more importantly 4 of the CCG winners get the first round bye.
@@mikemc4549 I don't like the bye week just so we can add 4 more teams that didn't win or potentially even play in a conference championship
It devalues the regular season. No one will schedule tough non conference games (why would you?) Strength of schedule doesn't mean anything. Games like Michigan vs OSU will no longer carry a do or die meaning. Players will sit out more games.
Because OOC can dictate the remaining 6 at large spots……
Love it. Wisconsin has much more of a chance to actually get to the big game now
I understand those saying it will diminish the regular season, but honestly, it won't do it by much.
If this had been approved in 2008, Bama would be in the playoffs every single year.
It will most likely be the better ranked non power 5 which right now is the American
I forgot about the big 10 additions. Big 10 and SEC also doing away with east and west. Top2 play their conference chip. This should also push the independents into a conference (notre lame to ACC) .
@@ernestocamarena3545well in 2 years the AAC is going to be decimated with teams leaving, so it will more likely be between AAC, Sun Belt and MWC.
@@brian2440 the only team leaving is Cincinnati to the Big 12 as far as I know, I haven't heard anything about other teams. So please enlighten me
The 4 team system now works well - with rare exceptions, everyone agrees who the top 4 are, which leads to one national champion.
Not to mention that we’ll get to see a group of 5 team every year, maybe two and a year where the group of 5 is strong
I agree with you 100%, I can’t wait for next year
It puts more emphasis on the bowl games actually mattering instead of half the team not playing because they are going to the draft.
I believe the BYE in that format is exclusively from the conference champions. This is to keep something on the line for all conference championships.
The fact that Al is 6 above teams that beat them tells everyone they need to know about all of it..
Thank you I was arguing with somebody about a year ago when it came up and was like if anything it adds more comp cause there’s more teams fighting for spots, but since their lower tier teams there’s no value cause they’ll still be losing that upsets arnt that common
How Will this effect the Bowl games? Will they be used in conjunction with the playoffs?
I think so all the minor bowl games will play out as usual. The Rose orange Fiesta sugar cotton and Peach bowls will be on rotation in the playoffs. I think the national championship game will be played in NFL stadiums Atlanta and Miami are hosting the first two.
