And she is so smart, not wanting to set it in the dirt, as that second to last piece she left for a new one. Putting it on the sill worked, but her motherly instincts still wanted to not leave her nest unguarded too long. These connections with nature are absolutely beautiful, it's no wonder so many of us recognized the beauty in this. :)

      There are so many Kestrels where I live. They’re remarkable, and very distinguishable when you see them in the air. Did you know that when they hover, their head doesn’t move AT ALL unless they're looking around? Their main food is Birds such as Blue Tits and Pied Wagtails, and Mammals such as Mice and even the occasional small Rat (large rats are far too large for the little Kestrel to take). In the South of England, they may even take Lizards from Sand Dunes, although Kestrels are less populated in the South so that would be extremely rare.

    Animals who nest so close to humans have already staked out the venue and have a good opinion of the dangers involved. The hawk's choice of this woman was no accident. But getting fed in this manner must have been a bonus. The bird feels grateful, of course. Clearly, a good thing is done. The only question that remains is "is it a trap" but things are looking better as time goes on. The chicks, by the time they are themselves laying eggs, will have lost a small part of their inherited aversion to humans. This particular hawk may also have been a chick that hatched in close proximity to humans. There will be no rodent problem in the area let me tell you.

      These birds are very fast and much stronger than a pigeon. If he had threatened the eggs she might have taken a fair chunk out of his face, but there is some leeway for having his own domicile adjacent. In the wild a prey species that nests near such a raptor is probably safer than the bird who is abroad further afield. The trade here is that her eggs are not threatened through her own hostile action.

      J Yu Well hawks and even Falcons can actually be found in cities. It’s rare but possible for them to nest in big buildings as they provide the same things as a high cliff. I managed to find a red tailed hawk or some type of hawk land on my AC as it caught a bird and ate it. I wish I took a photo but I was too amazed and in awe at the moment that I wasn’t able to take a photo.

      @Alex Wetherell which eventually came around to free food and no hunting. I know how domestication works. I just over simplified it for a joke.

    • @caseykendall5506
      @caseykendall5506 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Alex Wetherell FUN FACT: the process of domestication is basically humanity hacking evolution for our own purposes. Rather than nature selecting traits to pass down that gradually build up into new species, we figured out how to do it artificially. Which makes it really bizarre that it took so long for people to realize that this happens in nature all the time, and even weirder that some people still don't believe it's real.

      I feel like this insults the reasoning of the hawk. She knows well enough to not attack something so much bigger than her. I feel like if the person went for her eggs, she’d attack, but if she had no reason, they could live without interaction at all.
