Anyone thinking of getting a Hoss shouldn't let this video discourage them. If you get one and take your time setting it up, it will reward you with a huge smile every time you drive it.

I wanted one, and I still want one, but I'm glad that I went with the maxx instead. The hoss has a few advantages over the maxx but the maxx is a better truck, especially for the price difference of $70. I got to drive a hoss and it drives like a lifted rustler. The maxx has a pretty unique driving experience.
i bought Hoss to my son (6years old) and it does amazing job there.. not heavy so he can carry it easily, he is running 2S Lipo on training mode and learning small rather flat jumps - it never breaks - great truck for kids in my opinion - not only by design :-) i love it and still agree with this review, thanks
After owning and having an absolute blast with this little truck, I think people should consider a few things.. First, If you don't reduce the brake percentage out of the box it's very difficult to control the Hoss in the air. The big motor is way overkill for the Hoss on the brake side. Second, as with any Traxxas RC if you don't set the steering servo endpoints out of the box, you're gonna fry the steering servo double quick. lastly, I tried the GTRs on my Hoss, but I found the ultras to be better on this particular truck. I run 50w in the rear, and 60w up front. But I was using the standard weight springs on the GTRs. Perhaps a stiffer spring would solve this shortcoming. I might try that. If I can ever stop running this thing long enough to work on it. lol
I have a 1/16 e revo, bandit, E revo 2.0, rustler, and hoss. I love my hoss more than any other truck. I love how wild of a ride it is and how unpredictable. It’s almost like having to tame it every time you drive. Loved the review tho and you make solid points. But for me… the Hoss is my GO TO RC every single time! Bash on yall 😁
I love my hoss, all I've changed is the shocks, then upgraded to the metal axles. Then added the Bluetooth link, the tunability of the truck is where the performance is at. Without having to upgrade everything, nobody ever talks about the self righting in their reviews
#respect. That's why I watch a lot of reviews on what ever truck that I'm going to get. I wish everyone was like u. Just be honest, and I u can't take honesty than why do the reviews. Don't get me wrong, I love all rc trucks and cars. But I don't agree with how much money u have to pay to get a good Traxxis. And that's why I went for a ARRMA.
Awesome review! Thanks for the honest insight. While watching I had the same thoughts yiu had in your summary. I have the Rustler VXL 4x4, love it, except for the ride height for my yard, too low for the grass.
Hoss self rite like a dream it will surprise you. Been doing it a year not one problem promise. Drive tarain can take it no problem. Maxx not so much lol. Xmaxx , maxx , hoss . Love them all. Very smooth trucks. Vid 👍👍
I agree with that description, it's a good truck but for that price you can just bump out another 70 and get a Maxx. And that trucks in a whole new league.
all you have to do to get it to jump nice is put harder blue rate springs, 80 weight oil, and softer tires that's all I had to do to mine and it jumps awesome now.
im sure you may be aware but you need to set your end points for your steering servo so it doesnt rub the drive shaft and cause more pressure on the servo.
For the difference in price between hoss and maxx, i would go for maxx. Hoss can only run upto 3s where as maxx can run 4s. Need to get my hands on one soon. Nice video 👍
FYI that Lipo is way too heavy for the truck. You should keep under 6000MAH even 5000 they are much lighter and put less stress. The hoss does need the HD part upgrade think traxxas need to provide that out the box. The drive train on the axles breaks the most.

Perfect review, if it were $150 cheaper no one would be complaining.... You nailed it brother But I have NO IDEA how Thomas from TP Parts RC Extreme sends his Hoss to the Freggin moon 😱
I'd like to see you do an updated opinion with todays current prices of $430 for Hoss vs. $570 for the Max. Also should take into consideration is the additional cost of charger and batteries for the Max. A charger and 2 batteries for the Hoss is $181 vs. $350 for the Max. So in reality the Hoss cost is $611 vs. $920 for the Max. Please give us an honest updated opinion. Thanks
I would move my ramp forward a few feet so that the truck lands on the rocks and grass versus landing the truck on the pavement. Landing a jump on something hard like concrete or pavement is a sure fire way to break something on your RC car, whether it’s an arrma or Traxxas.
The traxxas hoss is a great truck, every time he didn’t land it or flipped it was on him. (No disrespect to the creator) This truck was built for high torque and stunts. Still love this guy though Edit: this is a hard truck to get used to but once you get a hang of it it’s really fun.
I’m all for considering other brands other than Traxxas but I’m always worried about parts support and longevity. Don’t own a Hoss but a Rustler and am considering my next truck.
I bought this rc so that i can upgrade it, whats the fun in driving something you didn't add your own style to, besides it has the same motor as the max just needs esc upgrade and you can run 4s, and its lighter, thanks for the video im sure this is a great truck.
Nice video and I appreciate the honesty one question I have it if you were going to be buying a new Traxxas vehicle either the wrestler 4 x 4 VXL or the house I’m not a real big you know taking it out to big jumps and everything like that but I do like to run around the grass on the asphalt what would you recommend between those two I’d really appreciate your opinion

My daughter loves it. It’s fun. $479(At the time I bought it) fun? Well if you like wrenching, yeah it’s the full experience on that front! 😂 Don’t jump it and don’t bash it or else you’ll be pouring money into new driveshafts, etc. I called it a ‘money pit’ when I called Traxxas about it. But I’m very, very careful with it because of what happened with my Hoss.
Seem like Traxxas is out of this world, as arrma is keeping it up with customers feedback to make better and better vehicles for us, Traxxas is going in they're own way with out listening to our feedback. like the Maxx, so many people already saying the bulkheads aren't strong enough since it first come out, but they keep coming out with the same old with out strength it up. Then comes the hoss, it's just a very expensive stampede just for you to look at in the store, caz everyone will probably go for the mini maxx with that price. Traxxas if you're listening, make a vehicle that is cheaper, light, fast and durable for us to bash.
The maxx doesn't break bulkheads unless you drive it into a curb at full speed. The maxx is by far the toughest rc out of the box. Traxxas, arrma, losi, kyosho, doesn't matter. The maxx is number 1.
