      +earthmover666 Thank you, A Carlow man made similar ones back in the late 80's/ early 90's and sold them under the Tanco brand name. Unfortunately, they are no longer on the market. They were ideal for getting the field tilled and level in just a few passes. I made a few changes to the crumbler.

    looks good...should of offset the roller bars one slot offset end to end....

    • @WilliamBolger
      @WilliamBolger  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks.
      Some manufacturers do off-set the bars on the crumbler to reduce vibration by enabling more contineous contact with the ground. I looked at several designs out there where bars are not off-set. I didn't bother off-set them as its not necessary where the crumber is small diameter and the bars sink nicely into the soil. No vibration has been experienced whatsover and it's
      far more cost effective.

    I actually own an original tanco leveling harrow....they were only 2.7 metres wide, wish it was 3m ...still working to this day ..

    • @williambolger5296
      @williambolger5296 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That machine you have would be worth a fortune if she's in good nick, I know of a few lads looking for one. Your only running 1 foot narrower than the 3 metres, you're still covering a lot of ground

  • @johnmurray5467
    @johnmurray5467 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi William,
    5 years on, do you still have the machine?
    Did you modify it in any way?
    Is 90hp sufficient or could you have went wider?
    If it broke in the morning and u had to start from scratch, what changes would you make?

    • @WilliamBolger
      @WilliamBolger  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi John,
      Yes I still have the harrow, I use it several times a year for sowing barley and reseeding and it never gave any bother.
      90hp is enough power for the 3 metres around our area but to go wider would be a struggle.
      Regardless of power, it couldn't go any wider on the road. To go to a fold up design makes it costly, complicated and high maintenance.

    How does it work in clay? Larger rocks?
    After the rocks flip up I get them with a skid steer

    • @WilliamBolger
      @WilliamBolger  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Works lovely in clay, levels it well. It can't pull up the larger rocks very well, the tines spring back and glide over them. I usually leave the front loader and bucket on to gather the stones as I till.

      John Claffey Solid Works, good program used for engineering design. You could probably get part time courses in your local IT. I used 2-pack paint, it's extremely toxic when the hardner is mixed in so use proper safety gear if you are going to use it.

      Anywhere between diameter 300 to 400mm would work fine once you mount it in the suitable position.

    3 lines "working bodies" is to narrow if there has residue harvest residues.
