34,000 points and counting for my Custodes army. Fell in love with them at the end of 7th edition and have not looked back since. Echoing some comments in here that all other armies will feel inferior to the 10,000. Enjoying the content, lads!

Just started out buying all the GW stuff with extras then i had this mad idea that I wanted to get the whole 10,000 so i've been slowly building up the force to that goal over the last 3 years in particular by buying a box or three every month. Jetbikes are a lot of points xD
@@sirjezzumz The Horus Heresy would be a good place to begin. Horus Rising (the first book) is a great read. Just to note - this series is set 10000 years before the current 40K timeline, so it’s more mythological, a time of hero’s and Uber villains you might say, there is a feeling of hopefulness (at the beginning) that isn’t present in 40k.
I just finished painting my custodians for a RTT this weekend. It was good easy, fun and rewarding. If you need a second army or a initial army to get started custodians are the way to go.
Oh! I just had an idea. How about they make the axe more consistent, but change the spear to make 2x the attacks of the model, so they have an anti horde/medium spear and a better than a thunder hammer, Castilian axe. Ya, that would work.
Worth noting if you have a resin printer, these guys have some of the best "proxies". Like identical to the forgeworld models and really decent with the GW plastic stuff.
Only thing I heard that was wrong was how the Custodes view one another in battle. Its not that they dont trust one another, or think theyre better, but how I remember it described was they are so elite and so so intune with their brothers they trust each man to their flank so much they fight as an individual knowing they're covered.
I was able to pick up an awesome second hand Custodes army (around 2300 points) for 185$ around the time of end of 8th edition. It's been really fun having this army available that I can have to let my friends play with if they are new to 40k ( My main army is tyranids). The low model count, high toughness, and great output of this list makes it a great 1st 40k army for players to learn on.
One thing is for sure. The Custodes is the army that you never heard of (or atleast shrugged) during your early days as a 40k fan but then realize it's the coolest army later on.
You had me at "every model is a terminator". I love terminators, they are just so cool to me. I bought custodes this year for actually a reason you guys only kind of touched on. Being a low model count army means that you make less decisions. Lets say every unit interacts in 3 phases (movement, shooting, fight). If you have 10 units, thats 30 decisions a turn. Over the course of a 3 round tournament, that could become thousands of decisions. Having a low model count army reduces the mental fatigue from making all those decisions, allowing you to be more attentive in the later rounds of a tournament. This will of course vary from person to person. Top players are generally less prone to mental fatigue, but in your local RTT's this could make a HUGE difference. This is also especially good, like Bridger said, for newer players. Having to make less decisions yourself means that you can pay more attention to your opponent's. Being able to take your custodes army in your carry on for flights is nice too.
I have been researching which kill team and 40k army to start with and just found this video. Holy cow this is nearly perfect for what I want. Tough, Elite, Heroes, and small sized model count. I wonder how they would look in purple and gold
I just thought. Why not have sisters of silence with heavy ranged weapons as well? I want prosecutors as troops, but if they filled a few hole that custodies have, that would be perfect for the new talons book
They should expand some of their ideas from 30k into plastic, they had sisters that had cyber hounds, and dual pistol types, if they had the option of sisters with melta and plasma pistols. There could be such perfect support options for the Talons. Have the omega nulls sort of option that they actually deep strike cause their anti psi feild makes it hard to actually see them.
To your point, my Shadowkeepers army is how I learned to apply the paint techniques I’ve been watching for months. I can see the progression, especially in my jetbikes.

After painting nearly 5k of death guard I’m thinking of doing custodes. I’m going to buy a box of custodian guard & build 3 as basic for a kill team, a shield captain & a vexilla and go from there!
I'm newer to Warhammer and was going to collect Necrons since i bought the starter box.... But then I saw the Custodes Gold and Red and just how badass they looked. I'm now 1750 points in. Please send help. Allarus Custodians are my favorite. I love being surrounded by 2 squads of like 5 units, and just being like "I spend my CP to Release the Lions" and just go ham on them. Also, controversial opinion: Wardens are better looking than the regular guard. But totally agree on the don't buy Wardens lmao. I just say "yeah they're Guards" since I built them with spears. They just look better and are easier to build imo. Plus that red cloth around one half of their body, so badass and regal. But i did buy a box of guards to make them all into storm shields so when i make 4 man squads of Guards, I use my 3 Wardens with spears, and throw in one Guard with the Sentinel blade and Storm Shield.
For anyone who would like to know more about their lore, politics among High Lords and the return of the Sisters of Silence, then Emperors Legion is a great book/audiobook. The narrator for the Sister Aleya is really good :)
Love my Custodes. Hope their 9th codex has them ignore all modifiers to hit. Always on 2's because they're just that good. No permanent Trans-human but -1D would be great, Definitely need to add to their attacks charateristics.
I can convert every space marine I have collecting dust! 😂 Get some shoulder , heads,, and the wepons you want and you get some amazing models... especially with the dominus box set? (Guessing the name here)
Love the content, but one small complaint - the into had way too much “glitch” and “wobble” effects. I couldn’t focus on the minis that the intro was trying to show off because all the after effects got in the way. A little here and there is great for the mood, but it took away from the feel with the amount used.
Each of them are alchemically changed individually (so not like Astartes) and they do age but sooooooooooooo slowly they're essentially immune to old age
What bugs me about Custodians is that they supposedly cant get corrupted because they are made to be uncorruptable. But half the Primarchs were corrupted, so are Custodians stronger than Primarchs or why were the Primarchs not made uncorruptable?
@@jasonpeacock9735 Than why give Space Marines free will? I get that the original legions followed their Primarch when they fell, but since then many more Space Marines have fallen to chaos. If you can make hyper elite troops without free will, why not make the 'regular elite' troops immune too?
It’s a much more selective process for custodes. They’re taken at birth and changed then. They’re put through school in arts, and war. They’re meant to be advisors to the emperor as much as fighters. The process is too long to make that many of them.
I love my Custodes, but I see a common unit not present. The guard unit with a melta on the spear. I own and will be using deep striking or air drop in front of a poor vehicle. Why is it no one uses 5 melta deep strike more often. I made one using kit bash. the other 5 from forge world.
Also I'm so sad, I haven't been able to play my main army because my friends whined at not being able to kill them and made me stop using them. I will always be loyal to my goldy bois
I have 4000 points worth of Death Guard about half painted. Told my wife I wasn’t getting any more Warhammer. Now I have to figure out how to order a new custodies army without her knowing…. Don’t judge.
I love my Custodes. Unfortunately I don't get to play them often as my game club is small and the other players are all convinced Custodes are broken and won't play games against me if I play them.
They're cheap when it comes to making an army due to their Hyper-Elite status, and they're very easy to paint due to most of each model being gold. Combine that with their T5 W3 Sv2+/5++ (4++ if battle-forged) and S6 AP-3 DD3 A3 means they are terrors in melee.
I truly love the aesthetic of the Custodes. I'll get some eventually but it's a shame their so iconic in gold. I try to make my armies unique but to paint Custodes not gold would ruin them for me I think..tricky decision.
@@trzynasty909 I'm thinking if I do get some to try a heavily battle damaged look. Something I've not done before. So will start as a gold but will have extreme silver damage as the armor gets cut and shot at. Would help break up the wall of gold and help me be different without changing the whole ideology.
There are a lot of great options! I painted mine as Solar Watch, but there are great Shadowkeepers forces as well! On top of that, Auramite can canonically change its color to anything at any time, so as long as you have some gold in there you'll be fine

Myself and a few of the older people in the hobby I know remember them been more zandri dust brown orange and think the white looks weird. Orks, Who says the skin needs to be green? However even remarkably well painted orks with blue and red skin look strange to a lot of us. Korne models not focusing on red... Thousand sons not been blue with the iconic yellow stripes on their helmets. It's like the box art and magazines and websites have brainwashed us by their color schemes and it has become ( the way it should be). I find it strange how I view models and struggle to fight against it because I am not that creative when it comes to my imagination.
This is just me but I keep time skipping to see all the amazing models in more detail. The two hosts are great but I'd prefer if the camera didn't keep switching back to them in the standard frame. If they spent more time panning over the models or the hosts held up individual models to the camera as they discussed that would be chef's kiss.
It's hard to recommend custodes as your first army, since once you start painting and playing them all other armies immediately seem inferior.

I switched to Custodes from orks. I love the Custodes play style. There is almost no dead weight in a Custodes list and everyone can do tons of work.

The Sagittarum upgrade kit isn't that bad, money-wise.
You could always play them as an allied force to some other army--Blood Axes for instance. ;)

The primarchs were tampered with by the forces of chaos during incubation which sowed the seeds of corruption for most of them
Custodes don’t have free will. Primarchs do.
