I kind of like how this makes it seem like Yabatan is his hyper persona all the time while speaking Japanese, but when he switches to English he is suddenly very serious and calm.
I spent almost a week in Beppu last year basically just because Dogen mentioned it in videos. My favourite parts were walking uphill, the coin laundry that had 8 dryers but only 2 washing machines, and the very friendly lady that cornered me outside the Lawson across the road from Royal Host to ask if I was happy and request I join her at a meeting of some variety. Seriously though, Beppu seemed like a real hidden-gem full of friendly people. I loved the daily onsen sessions, working my way through every restaurant in Sol Paseo Ginza, and the relaxed sea-side vibe. I'm kind of sad this video didn't come out before I went as it looks like I missed out on a lot of interesting activities. The lack of ピカピカのおじさん in this video is also quite disappointing.
I'm so grateful for this video. It's aired in perfect time for my move here, so now I got a bit more local suggestion of where I should go once I have time. Beppu is a beautiful city, can't wait to spend the coming years here. Thank you Dogen and Yabatan!
What a great comedy duo, Dogen being the deadpan ‘serious’ one with Yabatan being silly and playful, really bounce well off eachother! I was so pleasantly surprised by this video!

However, you both doing this type of sketch and having a unique dynamic made me laugh and enjoy every moment of it. Since I don't understand Japanese, the subtitles are also highly appreciated. Dogen, this was amazing. I recently watched an anime called Thermae Romae and the tours of the bathhouses after each episode are very reminiscent of this video in terms of production value, anytime I watch something of yours I am always impressed at the care and attentiveness. Having used the pitch accent course and now seeing this I think whatever you set your mind to will turn out great, thanks for the video
Beppu is one of my favourite places I've ever been! It was so lovely to see this video and remember that. There is so much peace when walking around this city, and going to the onsen every day is amazing, I look forward to visiting again.

Spent many great nights at creole cafe on my exchange at APU so really nice to see you giving it some exposure, the owner, staff and everyone I hung out with there are some of nicest people i ever met! Beppu is a fantastic place to visit 100%
Dogen still does the ん、ん、ん in english lol, being so good at japanese pronunciation it gives your english a japanese accent for a few seconds until you get used to it again, nice.
Thank you for this video on Beppu. I was an exchange student to 大分県立大分上野丘高等学校 in 1978 and went to Beppu many times. You showed some sites I did not have the opportunity to visit and I got to see some of the changes since my time there. I've started studying Japanese again as I plan on going back next year to visit my host families, classmates and my school. You have reminded to keep Beppu on my list of places to go. I know you teach Japanese, and I hope you have some ryuugakusei as your students. In 1978 there was no internet or textbooks for me to learn. I was fortunate that the mother of one of my classmates came out of retirement to give me lessons. Thank you for all that you do to teach people about this wonderful country. BTW I caught you using Oita-ben once in the video, it cracked me up.
