1994 Was also the great reunification of the church where there were a group of AG and COGIC brotheren who got together and prayed for unification in the body. This would be a powerful blessing from heaven if the two movements would merge. Bishop CH Mason would be extremely happy because this is what God wants. God doesn’t want us to be divided. Thank you so much for this information Brother.

Just an FYI: The A/G was the fastest growing denomination dating back to the 1970's. But once Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart hit their shyster peaks their numbers dwindled. Both were A/G ministers. There are plenty more failures in the A/G since then. Their popularity is slowly fading like most heavy duty Fundie outfits.

There’s more than race between them. COGIC continues to be a Wesleyan Holiness church, teaching that there are distinct works of grace in the salvific life of the believer. AG officially holds to a Finished Work position, which says that salvation is one single experience with continuous growth thereafter. Apparently the two organizations have taken different positions on certain political issues as well, which somewhat degraded the fellowship that was renewed in the 1990s.

@@TommyStrategic Hmmm 🤔 I would somewhat disagree with you on that. Their doctrine is very close to each other and I believe COGIC has came close to AG’s doctrine. You can download their statement of faith and they are almost similar in their beliefs. This has come into effect within over several years. The two movements have been working together strongly with each other in education and different organizational parts. They are healing ❤️‍🩹 and God is doing the mending.

@@cogicmj It is a pretty well documented fact that the Church of God in Christ is a Wesleyan Holiness Pentecostal church, while the Assemblies of God embraced the Finished Work doctrine. Also, while neither church teaches that speaking in tongues is essential for salvation, the COGIC seems to be reaffirming that part of its teaching; articles in recent years about the AOG point out that speaking in tongues is decreasing among congregants. It would be nice to see the two cooperate in the future, though.

I grew up baptist. I enjoy learning of other denominations. This year, the presiding bishop J Drew Sheard preached at an Assemblies of God church in my city of West Monroe, LA. Even though they are separate denominations, COGIC was allowed to use the church for the week for the annual Louisiana First Jurisdiction convocation as we did not have a venue big enough for it. Bishop Sheard and the pastor Christopher Miller are good friends.

I'm so proud in Chile (from 1909 revival) we still have the Holy Spirit moving in the church, and pentecostal church is the largest protestant church in Chile. And I love how the church is still having healing and speaking in tongues.
    My church:
    th-cam.com/video/BR-KWHD2ilA/w-d-xo.html
    My aunt's church:
    th-cam.com/video/bw3hJSV31WU/w-d-xo.html
The Evangelical cathedral of Chile in a Thanksgiving service including the the Chile government as guests:
    th-cam.com/video/WrlUaOXW66s/w-d-xo.html
Here in Chile most churches are pentecostal, because of 1909 revival in a city in Chile in a methodist church, then in every congregation was a revival and pentecostalism becomes the majority in the protestants churches who are more than 25% of the country.
Personally I haven't met how holy spirit moves in other countries but here I love how he moves really in order and it's just beautiful 💙

Just my opinion but I would think the biggest thing that might prevent a reunification is that they differ on sanctification. Coginc sticks to its holiness roots in that they believe one is sanctified @ the moment of salvation. You’ll see this when you hear people expressing the believer is expected to be different after salvation. Like you can’t still drink or smoke & day your saved (this is example I’m not saying every leader would expect this). Where AG teaches sanctification is a process of the Holy Spirit conforming the believer to the image & likeness of God. & cannot be perfected until we are resurrected & put on the incorruptible.
Not arguing for or against either position. Just trying to show a major core belief difference.

    • @123terricam
      @123terricam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

that's because that's not true. the cogic believes that you are sanctified at the moment of salvation because all your sins are forgiven. sinful habits are different. they believe sinful habits are cleansed through the holy spirit (keeper) that is a process that all work on. so while you're sanctified, you're still a work in progress. so they don't disagree on that. they have different teaching styles but that is a core belief its the same. these two churches are sister churches. they have the same core beliefs.

Great Channel! Thanks so much! Early pentecostals avoided the idea of denominations because they were expelled from them, hence the name: (independent) assemblies of God. The 1914 meeting was to develop orthodox doctrine, which is also where oneness pentecostalism was excluded. But like any group that parks their doctrine and sets up schools and doesn't continue to grow, they became what we consider to be a denomination. Also, a focus on race from the 1914 meeting ignores the reasons why the people there were there. New to the channel, perhaps elsewhere you go into the early influencers like Dowie/Parham/Holiness/other denominations that experienced the pentecostal experience in another video that show how and why the 1914 conference occurred. If not, that's OK too. Keep up the great work!

Holiness is a lifestyle. It’s a process of sanctification through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. We don’t live or look like the world. We don’t imitate the world. We don’t follow the world’s fashion trends that don’t align with God’s word. We don’t practice the things of the world that conflict with God’s word. Without the Holiness Spirit, we cannot be holy. Sanctification is a process that lasts the life of a believer. We are sanctified and being sanctified. It’s not just merely an outward appearance either. You can look holy on the outside and be rotten in the inside. Holiness is inside first and also the outside.

cogic and ag are sister churches. they are back together. that which happened was forgiven a while ago. the bishops already resolved the so called merger ideal. they decided it would be easier not to merge but to stand in support of each other. basically they are the same church but they did not merge because they didn't want to destroy each other in the process, rather than that, they work together to build each other up and support each other. one example is recently with blm sunday where ag supported cogic's decision to respect December 14 as that day.

Not true. Research what happened at Azusa Street and when the denominations actually materialized. The personalities from that time
had disagreements on how to move forward and I believe it was because they were each uniquely gifted. Eventually-not immediately-the denominations were formed.
