    Part of the fun in owning a Grom, is trying to get the most power you can out of the little engine. I love it, and couldn't give less OAF what people think about it.

      Honestly, I don’t recall now a days and I do not have the bike anymore. But there is a chance I just did not have the correct socket like if I needed a extended one or something like that or maybe the wrenches at the time was just easier for me to use, I’m not sure man.

    Looks like a lot of work and it's a little pricey 700$ compared to swapping the engine complete kit with a zs190 direct replacement 799$ your also able to sale the extra parts as well could possibly brake even if the honda engine is fresh. 👌👍✌️

    All head work, cam installation, valve adjustment should be done on bench. Then install.

    • @RidinDad
      @RidinDad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why? That’s just preference. We adjust the valves normally with everything in tact at typical intervals. So just because you prefer to do it on a bench doesn’t mean that it’s wrong to do it while on the bike. Doesn’t have any affect on the outcome at all

    I HAVE A 2020 HONDA GROM and I am seriously thinking about getting this kit. Everyone I talk to about it says that im going to need alot more parts to make it work right and be reliable is this true?????? Awesome tutorial by the way!!!!!!

    • @RidinDad
      @RidinDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! So everybody’s opinion is a little different. This kid specifically has pretty much everything you would ever need. There are some additional parts very small like some valve parts that are just a little bit more durable that would be a long-term thing but other than that there’s really nothing that I can think of that you would need with this kit. It pretty much has everything in it as long as you select the correct drop-down items and adding it to your card. That’s the main reason I went with this kit. I only have about 200 miles on it so far so I can’t tell you longevity wise how it has been but I can tell you that I have not been gentle with the bike and it’s giving me absolutely zero issues. I would say to make sure you have a good aftermarket exhaust and a good air filter to allow your bike to breathe with this new big bore kit

  • @Myrussell67
    @Myrussell67 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Holy crap that was painful to watch. I know it’s been two years. You need to invest in a set of sockets. Also every time you install new parts they should be cleaned. You should have removed the piston and cleaned the bore and piston. Then dip the piston in oil before putting it back in the bore. Oil the wrist pin ect. Do you own a torque wrench?

      Thank you! And yeah....very worth it. Next weeks video is my first impressions. It’s impossible to find my top speed with this. I haven’t been able to find my top speed with the belt either due to where I live and the fact that the top speed would be well over 100mph. I didn’t feel too speed was important with this because it doesn’t decrease top speed to a noticeable level and it’s not made to increase the top speed at all in this gearing.

      Sweet! Have another question if you don’t mind me asking. I just installed mine today and I’m having a problem with the idle. At first, my bike had a super hard time starting up. I did get it to stay on after a few attempts, but at low idle, the bike sounds like it wants to shut off. When I blip the throttle, it will turn off if I do that too fast. I took the bike on a short ride and it felt great while riding but turned off on my when I slowed to a stop then tried to speed up. Any idea what might be causing this problem?

    What is the point for few HP gains and maybe 80mph? You now have $4800 in your Grom. Just buy an MT03 for $4800 and you have 35 HP and 110mph plus, better handling, braking and a much safer bike.

    • @RidinDad

      It’s about the fun of it. It’s fun working on bikes to some of us (me). And it’s a completely different feeling going 70/80 on a grom than on a full size mt03 or ninja 300 etc.

    Followed this to install my kit, no problem at all!
    Although, they must have changed up their oil cooler kit a bit because mine came with a black bracket and did not mount to the bottom valve adjuster tappet, instead it mounted to the bottom head bolts and it tucked up there pretty nicely. I did have to turn the idle screw one turn because of the poor idle but my only issue now is tough starts, which i'm sure a lithium battery will take care of.

    Quick question bro, Installed this same exactly kit. Started it up and ran, it does struggle abit to start though? Also, it some times stalls when i just rev it alittle.

    • @RidinDad
      @RidinDad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve never had the stalling issue at all. My only guess would be if it’s still a somewhat new install that it possibly takes some time even though the ECU is re-flashed it might just take some time for it to break in and adjust to your specific bike since they do adjust a little bit. And as far as the start up, yes. It will be sort of hard to start up especially depending on where the piston is in the engine when you start. Because it’s a larger piston and a higher compression then start. So all that means is that your battery is not as strong as it ideally would be. You can fix that with an upgraded battery like a lithium ion With some hire cold cranking amps and then what the stock battery is and it should start up really fast
