    "Easy keeper" refers to feed intake and how much an animal requires.
    Nice looking dude. Good luck!

      Thanks Danny. I figured it was different then I was interpreting it. That definition makes me happy though if it stands true in maverick because I am a bit concerned that he will lose his girth being on a strictly grass diet.

    Hello, I made a video telling the story of the Dexter breed in Portuguese, I would like to know if I can use excerpts from your videos to illustrate my narration, I'm from Brazil!

    How do dexter hold up to heat? Either humid or dry

    • @dexterranch
      @dexterranch  ปีที่แล้ว

      They hold up very well. Although I have heard stories of people relocating animals that were raised in warm climates to colder climates and Visa versa that did not do so well so it’s best to buy from somewhere relatively close to your area. Thanks for the question.

    He is a nice looking bull, he may have just never been trailered and really stressed out, once he gets to know you and his surroundings hill settle in. Give the guy a few weeks. To bad he wasn't red? 😆

    • @dexterranch
      @dexterranch  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Shaun. I’m hoping we can build some trust, and he doesn’t destroy his corral. I went out looking for red, but Maverick carry’s wild red, and dun so I felt like the excitement of the possibility of 3 different colors popping out was worth it, and color is pretty easy to bring back once you establish other characteristics. I’m excited for calving like I was when I first started again lol. Hope all is well, and thanks for all your support on the channel!

      @@dexterranch Absolutely, as a Dexter breeder myself I really injoy anything Dexter's im more biased in the fact that my heard is all red we've got one that's dun but he will be off to the butcher in 6 weeks, are ADCA regional meeting is coming up I'm super excited to go to that and mingle with other breeders. Possibility some day we could talk out side of you tube. You never mentioned weather or not that was an a2a2 bull, if he was red a2a2 holy crap I would want him bad he's a beautiful bull and I'm sure you're going to get great calves from him. Have a great day my friend.

    Could you explain to a layman how does polled versus non-polled work? I have read about physically removing the horn buds but don't quite understand the genetics of a polled animal? Seems like it would be a bit safer if the horns were gone. If it this can be done by breeding is there a test for this trait?

    Oh no here comes TP(Name seems to fit😅)..................I am curious as to what diet your new bull was on?
    I like him though..........as long as he is polled😁 With all that said, I never trust any bull.........Maybe that is from my milk cow history. I prefer young ones though to raise, but that is a gamble too as you aren't 100% sure what you have immediately. I am planning on trying to AI acouple generations out for my next replacement here.

    • @dexterranch
      @dexterranch  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey TP lol. He is homozygous polled A2/A2. I’m certain that he was receiving some amount of grain as I have never bought a animal from a farm that didn’t. We will see how he does on the grass diet. The last owner only had him one season. I’m guessing he made her uncomfortable from time to time. You are right. Never trust a bull. Just worried he will be tearing stuff up. We shall see. Thanks for watching sir!

      @@dexterranch I was just wondering, as my neighbor would say it looks like he has "Angus A$$", I was wondering if he was on corn silage, that is why I asked. I bought a bull from a grass only operation and he was on the leaner "Milk cow" side as far as frame.......ground ear corn with his hay seemed to cure that. Seems to take different genetics and good hay to hold a frame like that without grain. Will be interesting to see how you make out.
