    Woooot props to Cesar Milan! Same here, started watching the show, read all the books, started implementing the techniques with dogs at home. Then started taking classes with my dogs. Then assistant teaching. Then teaching. Then started my own business. Going on year 10 now. I compete highly in many disciplines and half of my income is specialty competition classes, the other half is pet dog stuff.

    Cesar is the GOAT & always will be a staple who made the dog training industry as lucrative as it is! ❤
    If you come out with a full course on dog owning/running dog training biz, I'll be an early bird buyer 100%! Include a social media portion, client communication, program building & how to personalize/make unique etc.
    A shield k9 course I'd buy.
    I'll be doing your trainer course, 2025 goal 💪
    ❤❤❤ thanks as always for sharing such valuable information for free, you truly care!
    Happy new year! 🎉
    PS: Larry needs all the good energy in the world right now for Danté-a sport dog injury is so unfortunate- maybe you have some advice as a friend for him since you've likely experienced similar challenges!

    Cesar opened the door to the industry. Even if you don’t believe in his methods, he showed people there is help for their dog.

    So sensible! I wish you had an online course that starts with dog selection, puppy training, through basic obedience and ending up with common service dog tasks such as brace, pull, bring objects or cellphone, because most people who want a service dog but cannot afford a trained dog at 50K try to train themselves, but need a good system with definite outcomes.
    I used the Elite off-leash obedience course from shield k9 to train my service dog in obedience and did tons of public access training, but really wish I had had a system to follow because she would be even better. There is a very large group of people who would want to purchase such a course.
    As it is, she is damn good and can ignore squirrels and walk through a flock of loose chickens, and performs her balance/mobility job well.
    A police officer was checking out in front of me at a store when I told her to sit, not lay down so she wouldn’t get stepped on by people and he said, “She’s better behaved than my police dog.”

    There are 2 parts to a Dog Training Business.
    (1) Ability to Train Dogs.
    (2) Ability to Train People.
    Many trainers are great one of these things, but few are great at both.

      Thank you so much for saying this. I attended a 3 day workshop with a US dog behaviourist and was the only non dog training professional in attendance. The disdain towards dog owners was very upsetting. If you do not like or cannot communicate with people, do not become a professional dog trainer!
      Having said that, I have had a very positive experience with Shield K9

    • @StarkK9Academy
      @StarkK9Academy 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ unfortunately I’ve have had other dog owners share this similar experience. This situation happens in all sorts of professions like teaching where teachers & professors know the subject matter, but lack the understanding to actually teach it to ppl who are not quickly grasping it like they did, or they forget that it took them repeated exposure, implementing/applying the knowledge repeatedly to truly have a deep understanding & skill. Anyone who talks down to you and makes you feel like 💩 is a problem with them not you & leave that situation, if it’s a paid situation get your money back.
      Haz is a skilled trainer that can train both dogs & ppl and he gives back in creating free content too.

      Oh you are so right. Many of my clients realise very quickly that it is them that need the training, not so much their dog. Dogs are easy to work with, humans not so much as they are far more stuck in their ways. You must have very good people skills in this line of business.

    Believe it or not but many moons ago I trained an English Bull Terrier to very high Obedience, Agility etc and of course everything off leash too. It is her fault that I now have a dog training school for over 25 plus years. I am in South Africa and in our country the EBT is seen as super aggressive and totally untrainable and there I was with South Africa's first EBT to earn CGC, excell at Agility, get along with other dogs just great etc. So those who noticed us came to me and asked me to help them train their Labradors or whatever dogs they had. It got so crazy that I had no choice but to open a school and give proper lessons. I did go study too in Dog Behaviour and Obedience Instruction. So here I am 25 plus years later, still passionate about helping dog owners with their dogs. I have a set curriculum but tweak it to suit the particular family and their dogs that I am working with. So far so good. But with my current GSD I do more intense stuff because he is no ordinary pet and needs to work and I love it, so my standards for him are super high. Thank you Haz for your helpful videos as I have learned a lot from you too.

    Hi Haz. ‏thanks for this video ‏content like this ‏is rare. ‏Two questions:You ‏didn't mention ‏the online-presence ‏as a part of ‏a successful ‏dog training business. I ‏wonder how much time and resources ‏does it require? 2, ‏how do you deal with the fact, regarding pet dog owners, ‏that you are dependent on other people's actions?

    • @GoannaUK
      @GoannaUK 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It's hard. I am dealing with this right now - an out of control Malinois only 7.5mths but large and crazy leash biter with re-direction. Owners have no experience with large high energy dogs or handling skills and are not giving him the outlets he needs. Training won't be enough.

    • @arye.dogman
      @arye.dogman 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @GoannaUK ‏i have the same case right now. I thought alot ‏weather to take on this case or not

    • @GoannaUK
      @GoannaUK 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@arye.dogman All the best to you for dealing with it. I don't think the owners are going to do what is needed to get the dog the free exercise he needs before a training session, so it will be like trying to put fizzy coke back in the bottle. I'll give them one more session (4) and then have some Malinois rescue details at hand for when they realise they just cannot manage this dog and are giving him a dreadful life.

    im just staring my journey to become a dog trainer, im doing everything i can to not skip the first step. Im currently training my own dog for IGP and train with a club that has sent people to worlds. Im currently taking on clients but im not charging any money as i feel i need to put in the free time to gain the experience, already having some great results with those clients, mostly helping solve reactivity issues and most of these clients have all previously been to other trainers and paid them £100's if not £1000's and had no results....which is kinda baffling to me.

    • @StarkK9Academy

      Working for free can backfire on you on the long run.

    • @lukeryuzaki2328
      @lukeryuzaki2328 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Freebie often attract irresponsible clients. If you can't get the owners to maintain and follow through, no amount of training would make well trained dogs. Would you want these clients to undo the training and showcase ill behaving dogs on your name?
      Also, get yourself insured properly. Injuries to yourself and client dogs damage the reputation before you really start.
      Find a club and volunteer. Learn and showcase your skills. You may then find connection that give you that first real training job and access to real clients.

      @@lukeryuzaki2328 yea I’ve I’ve experienced some of what your talking about, one client was someone I knew from school, they have a super reactive GSD, I got the dog to a point where he would stop reacting, walk beautifully, he just needed more time to build his confidence and change his association of other dogs but the owners just didn’t bother to even walk him in between sessions very much, was tough for me because I knew what the dog could be and how much better his life could be. Ultimately I stopped with them because I felt like I was pissimg in the wind. Another client had one session where we made some real progress (bearing in mind they had other trainer in the past and not got anywhere) and I have them some stuff to work on but I just knew their heart wasn’t in it and had my suspicions they were looking for an easy way out before I even got there from the conversation I had with them, I was right as a week later they told me they were rehoming the dog. Fortunately though most of the clients I have worked with have been amazing and are fully committed, their dogs are transformed and the clients are over the moon. I’ve those clients keep offering me money which I still refuse. I sort of feel like I can’t call my self a dog trainer yet and to accept money wouldn’t be right.

    Biggest issue I've seen is most trainers have zero business acumen. They will prioritize their passion over practicality. Most trainers get bored of training pet dogs exclusively.

  • @benjaminAgagne
    @benjaminAgagne 19 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

    Good dog trainers can’t help bad clients. Do you believe you can reprogram dogs and then just hand the keys back to any owner? Good dog trainers have to be able to train owners.

    • @phalanxk9
      @phalanxk9 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I agree. I get clients that want to do a board and train. They want me to make a dog to stop being aggressive…..well the dog is fear aggressive so I’m not going to punish the dog for being afraid, so that’s stupid. However teaching the owner to teach the owner how to show the dog that they have their best interests at mind so they’re more willing to comply vs “force free” or the compulsive route. then letting the owner know the dog will always be fear aggressive and reactive and they need to be aware of that but having the obedience and control is how you alleviate those outliers. That’s where you differ as a trainer.
