One thing that that always comes through with this fan film is that it has depth. At it's core, it's a balls to the wall Lightsaber fight. Then you look at the acting. Darth Maul is a savage brute of a sith, but he also has a little bit of honor. His facial expressions tell a story, he seems to respect the woman a bit, and even has a look of compassion. He looks conflicted, and looks like he has to force himself to anger, just to strike her down, plus he's aware that he's being watched. All of this is just good acting, and story telling with out speaking. This fan film did more for Maul then Phantom Menace did, and in only 15 minutes.
I agree 1000%, however I feel this actually respects and deepens the character for what we see in Phantom Menace. Its almost as if we need this to be canon just to watch it before, or after Episode 1. I know I would include it in any SW movie marathon from now on if ever.
I think the angry young Padawan was putting out a Dark Side vibe in the end. You can see the surprise in Maul's eyes when he sensed it. He even had an empathetic moment at the end until he realized he was being watched and judged by Palpatine.
I told you they were top class. I'm glad you enjoyed my recommendation can't wait to see what you think of the others. It's always cool to see someone experience star wars for the first time.
@@saltybulldog3241 not really, this fan film could fit perfectly into canon. The existence of the Sith would still not have been revealed to the Jedi Order or the Republic because all of the Jedi here were killed.
maul was a beast. . one of the best ppure fighters we've sene in the franchise. . his force abilities were relatively limited, most just the basics force push/pull/choke. . but he more than made up for that with his sheer combat prowess. . in phantom menace we clearly saw him confidently and competently take on on two jedi with ease. . and it was only through lazy story telling that he was defeated. . .but became a constant thorn in the side of the jedi for decades after that defeat even after leaving his master and essentially riding solo
@@Perfect-Sininen are you an idiot Maul was literally one on the most effective and dangerous lightsaber combatants in the sith he nearly beat sidious himself he also is very well versed in the force he just preferred lightsaber fighting he knew all the styles but mastered 5 of them btw the most lethal ones hence why maul was known as a sith assassin and Lord he was under portrayed by Disney and this film did him justice

Think about it this way, if nothing short of total succes in your objectives and total obedience to your master will kill you Will you take it lying down, or will you fight? I think we know Maul and the Jedi girl's answer to that :)
I remember watching this fanfilm and being blown away by how the actor played Maul, even more than the high-quality production value and everything else. Ive never understood why the Jedi always pushed the situation. They clearly were at a disadvantage, inexperienced, when the first 4 fell, i wouldve been like welp, lets tell the council lol.
My thoughts are that the Master was getting arrogant and getting touched by the dark side since he was getting angry. This made him reckless and stupid
This plays out before the phantom menace. Siths were thought to be all extinct for 1000 years at least. So ofcourse a group of jedi discovering that in fact a sith roams around when they follow a beacon is a direct danger to the jedi council and everything they represent. - they chose to eliminate the threat at all costs.
@@Gaxelle Oh, nope, there it is, one month ago... Well that's fun! I guess I'm just surprised you found that one before doing the short films. Good reaction there and here, btw.
Just a few minutes and this FAN film (Budget: low 5-digit, about 70 people -mostly STUDENTS- involved) is way better than 7, 8 and 9 together (Budget together: about 760.000.000 USD, uncountable masses of high-level personnel). I cant even imagine what Shawn Bu and his crew would have created with that amount of money.

He sees the darkness in her and the potential for turning her to the dark side and taking her as an apprentice. Since there can only be two that means he would have to take down Sidious. But since he is being watched he realizes that he has no choice but to kill her.
I think he was about to show her mercy because she was kinda slick weak as a padawan but had potential. But since palpatine was watching he would’ve looked at it like maul showing mercy meaning he ain’t cut out to be a Sith Lord and would’ve killed maul
a thousand time better that the last Jedi
