I'm not much of a do it yourselfer. Wife's '12 Town and Country rears started grinding yesterday. Dealership wants $500 lol. I'm sure local will be cheaper, but can't afford it after this whole virus crap. Anyways, I told her that I'll give it a whirl. It's been 20 years since I've done brakes lol. Googled "How To" vids, found this one, and I will now be ordering this setup from you guys. Great video

For twisting the calliper in, I ended up using the tool from my angle grinder. The one to change blades with. It isn't perfect but it did work on my 2010 Caravan. Way easier than needle nose pliers.
I found the hardest part of this is those pesky clips, they don't seat well or stay in. Many frustrating moments. Over all this video made the task easier. Side 2 much easier after practice on side one

Only replace rotors if needed, not everytime you change pads. Also, best to get piston depression kit (most parts stores will loan you). And always spray down the assembly with brake cleaner before you start disassembly and any other time during the job (like that backing plate). My 2 cents....

Twisting that caliper piston back in can sure be a b#$%h. Last time I did this I actually found it helpful to; remove caliper, remove caliper bracket, remove rotor, put bracket back on, and then caliper back on. It allowed a stronger hold for the force necessary to twist the piston with the pliers. Just took a little longer is all.

Great video. I would say this is one of the most detailed video without a lot of bla bla bla. One thing that I do is is put a brake hose clamp on the brake hose and open the bleeder screw as I push back the piston. This will stop the old brake fluid from pushing back into the master cylinder. Then you add new brake fluid into the master cylinder after. The other thing I do is use brake silicone grease on any part the is rubber. A petroleum based grease on rubber can make it swell and let water in or make the part stick.
Those clips should come brand new with the the new brake pads, every pads I ever bought have come with them

this is probably the clearest and most thorough video I have ever seen I have seen several. When you turned the piston back in it moved without a problem, so my question to you is if it does not turn back in what do you do to get it to. The piston must be free if it moves out when the brakes are applied so it can't be seized. Is this the point when you open the bleeder screw and hope for the best?

Good Video I normally change my own brakes but paid to have them replaced this time since I was traveling and do not have tools. I saw that tool to twist and compress the caliper available at a local auto parts store as a loaner tool.

Noticed a lot of the shops just tell you to replace the calipers also. Its a win-win situation for them, makes it easier for them and charge more.
One of, if not the best, brake replacement videos I've seen out there, super clear, detailed and very thorough. I especially like the thoroughness of cleaning the sliders and pins, super important and very well shown in the video. Is there any adjustment necessary for the parking brake now that you've turned the piston in or is it self-adjusting? And if it's self adjusting, does it adjust by regular actuation of the brakes (pumping you described) or by actuating the parking brake itself multiple times? Also, a quick suggestion if anyone has trouble turning the caliper piston back in, if you pull the old rotor off and then use both bolts to re-attach the caliper temporarily, it won't move around as much and makes it easier to focus on turning the piston back in if you don't have the special tool. Great video, thank you!

For those who watch this video, make sure that you use some brake cleaner and spray down both sides of every rotor you install. Why? Because new parts are sold and have a film of a protective oil called cosmoline that is used to keep rust from forming. This oil needs to be sprayed off before you install your caliper bracket and pads, so that you don't have that oil getting into the pad material, and possibly causing glazing, which destroys the stopping power of the pads.
Great video! I have to replace my rear rotors and pads and possibly the calipers on my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan. Definitely will buy one of your kits! How does one know if the calipers need replacement as well?

You forgot to mention when you screwed the piston back in that is very important where the slots on the piston line up otherwise the rotor will not turn freely and overheat.
The piston has a groove to match the brake pad key. Make sure they line up or the pad won't sit flat and wear fast, also will cause heat.

The shims (tins as you called them) on mine are a little different. The middle section has a loopback spring part ... this change seems to have been courtesy of the affiliation to Fiat and Alfa since their brakes have it too. So, now I'm trying to work out how to reassemble ... might have to do a cheat look at the other side then return to this one ... pain in the butt since I'll have to put a wheel on temporarily, lower it, then jack up the OTHER side. pictures and then back around to the original!

Curious about how many miles were on these brakes. Just did mine with 60,000 miles on tbe vehicle. The rear brakes still had about 1/3 of the pad left on the original pads. But, my lower rear slider pins were seized and had to be pounded out. I could have cleaned the corrosion off, but, decided to replace the pins for $10 a set. Checked inside the bracket slider pin holes and saw so much pitting that the seals would have been chewed up in short order. Replaced the brackets also. The brake brackets were $80 each thru local dodge dealer. Entire caliper was $65 at advance.

Hi, I have a 2017 dodge grand caravan. I have had my front rotors turned and replaced several times. The owner of the shop said the front rotors are notorious for warping. The rotors ate less than a year old and I just had them turned last week before going on a trip. I drove 800 miles and the vehicle started shaking while going down steep hills. I was actually very careful this trip and didn't ride the breaker at all. During the last repair the mechanic stated that the only way to permanently fix this problembis to buy cold forged breaks and that they are super expensive. Does this sound right? Thanks for your help.
I had trouble with rotors warping on 2 different vehicles. My mechanic said to not use ceramic brakes because they do not dissipate the heat well. I use semi metallic brakes now.

I replaced all pads but when Im going to hit the brakes its like they drag. It will not stop the car unless i hit them hard.
Good job, you don't mic your calipers too see if they can be turned saves a ton of money. The manufacturers provide specs. for tolerances.

When ordering, it makes a difference if you have double piston calipers on the front brakes. Double pistons means heavy duty brakes. Yes the back brakes will be heavy duty also.
Good info on the video but there is a specific caliper tool that allows you to close that caliper easier than with a pair of needle nose pliers -

why are the rotors the same thickness even know what one is Worn and one isn't?
Can you just compress the caliper with the other tools and not twins and push in
I wish Dodge designers were as conscientious as the Volvo engineers were before Ford bought their car line in 1998.
I wish all the mechanic are this detailed and take time to finish the job but majority are just money grabbers, they will slap in cheapest rotors pads and if you go back in with an issue with the fix they did, they always have a story or two to tell you about "other stuff" that you did not get fixed that is causing the issue.
The whole reason I watched this was to see how you pressed the caliper back and you completely skipped over that part. Thanks.
