    I gave up on quartz watches because I just can't deal with having to replace the battery whenever needed so I now prefer the automatic watches even though they may not be as accurate as a quartz

      That's why I love solar watches

    • @LeadPhalanx-zv6wx

      @@lefevrealban I have 2 solar watches in 47mm both very nice one of them is atomic so it self adjusts every 12 hrs. if needed. I have heard of the capacitor lasting 10yrs and I even heard of one lasting longer, but there is no guarantee for the capacitor lasting "any" specific amount of time so you still have to deal with the replacement.. When they come out with one guaranteeing a capacitor for life then I might be interested. For now my daily wearers are 2 diver style automatics in 50mm that I shuffle wearing from one day to another knowing that a battery/capacitor will not need replacing

      @LeadPhalanx-zv6wx Yes a capacitor might need a replacement but that will still be cheaper than a service for a mechanical watch, which is to be done every 5 years generally. That plus the added ruggedness of a quarts, I find that solar watches are the best do-it-all/beater watches.

    👍👍 Good - I use a black permanent marker to make logos/writing less distinct too.

    1st comment! Thanks for posting. I'm going to try this on my 1967 Rolex 1680 "Red" Submariner. I can't stand the red "SUBMARINER" text on the dial! 😀

    Not that I would fool with any of my watches but nice to know that it can be done without ruining the dial.

    Great technique. Worked a treat on my genuine Rolex (at least the chap in the bar said it was genuine) to remove the spelling error (had stated Bolex). Just need to work out how to neaten up the new lettering; regret using a Sharpie.

    I sometimes take a black sharpie and basically color the lettering or logo i don’t like in black ink. It’s still visible but it’s black and stealthy like. You can actually color the text or logo any color you want. I use a microscope and do it very carefully

    Addiesdive sells Sterile and Personalized versions of some watches at their website. I wouldn't buy a sterile version but I can see the appeal with the personalized versions available.

  • @mtbbiker6401

    I know these are cheap watches but I'd be concerned the heat might damage the crystal gasket and reduce the water resistance rating. I hate cyclops magnifiers so I understand why you do it. The cyclops on my Steeldive SD1953 are obnoxiously magnified!

    • @KenVersus

      It didn’t get too hot and it was only a few seconds. But yeah I wouldn’t go diving with it myself.

    • @mtbbiker6401

      @@KenVersus I may try it myself. I suppose if I was worried about the heat damaging the watch, I could remove the crystal first.

    What is your experience with Aceton? I have heard that some did prefer that above Alcohol.

    • @KenVersus

      Acetone might be too strong and strip the paint. Alcohol is strong enough. If you have to try it with acetone, test on the edge of the dial to see what happens.
