Deep in Northern Vermont. Flat tire, oh great, gas station right ahead. Limp her in, 2 guys come flyin out of the garage wearing service uniforms with hats like you used to see on the old Texaco commercial. Jack her up and wizz bang Indy pit stop level. “ That I’ll be $18.00 sir. Give em $25. Driving away, look in the rear view, their standing there wavin goodbye. Twilight Zone theme song is playin in my head.

I started driving trucks legally when I was 18 (1979) and drove for 40 years.
I grew up around trucks. All of my relatives had their own trucks.
My grandfather started teaching me to drive his log truck when I was 9 years old.
I got to drive at the mills and up in the woods...
I loved it until things started changing, and the regulations became more and more ridiculous.
I do still miss driving and being around them though.

Kurt, your comment to Opie about being in the field with a horse reminded me of a motorhome trip we took and we had our 120 lb rottweiler with us. We had stopped at the KOA next to the Devil's Tower and took him out for a walk. In the pasture next to the KOA was a huge Bramha bull. That rottweiler took one look at that bull and dragged me back to the motorhome. 🤣

When I was a kid my Step Dad was an owner operator. We did all the maintenance on the weekend. As a kid I used to get all greasy underneath greasing all the fittings. Changing tires, using either to get the seal was the funnest part, I would always spray to much to get a little explosion. My step dad was always doing something every weekend. all day long.

With today's tubeless tires. Doing them on the road without a service truck full of tools is not a good idea. Just some of the things you're going to need. A bead blaster, two tire bars, a bead breaking hammer, a tire scuff, plug patches, glue, a patch roller, a good jack and stand. And you can't forget the big gun and socket. 33 millimeter fits better than an inch and five sixteenth.
My last company I worked for before retirement had a 24/7 service contract with a tire company. But then again we would burn through about 200 tires a year. Our casings were branded and capped only once for drive tires. Any casing with a patch would be sold. We had very few problems with caps.Steer and trailers always got new. Our TTs would pass over the scales at 103,000lbs. Our wheel loaders had at least 20 spare tires waiting in the pits and quarries. Those were at least $6,000 each seven years ago. I'd hate to see how much they are now.

It took 8 hours to get a tire fixed once, at I80. I missed my delivery window and had to sit on the road for two days in Chicago. Speedco was 10 hours for tires. There’s a shortage of workers, which makes us wait. Pre-Covid days the wait times were under 4 hours for the most part, I long for those days to come back.

@TruckingWithSchmidt Yes sir! Changing a tire or patching a tire is a job of itself. Done it quite a bit when I worked for my neighbor at their heavy duty tow business. But once you get a nice routine down. It’s a cake 🎂 walk. It’s not as hard as you think 🤔 it is Kurt. Especially if it’s on the outside compared to the inside tire on a dual setup. Good to see you & Opie together once again. Stay safe.

I wonder if you have a bottle of Tums in your truck for you and Opie? Dogs can have a couple of Tums for an upset tummy, just like people can. When I was younger I didn't have any patience and I had a very short fuse that got me in a lot of trouble.
It took a lot of work on my part but I got a lot better about things My wife said I actually went to far the
other direction LOL... You are right about patience and trucking. People that don't drive don't understand
it's part of the game and there is nothing you can do about it. The worst part about some of the long delays
is that you don't get paid for them. Case in point, your sitting for 5 freakin hours to get a tire repaired...
That is totally absurd. There's no excuse for that long of a wait, even if they are busy. Even if they are putting
8 new drive tires on a truck, they should have had you pull up, jerked the tire off and fixed it, and got you going.
The guy getting new tires is going to be there awhile anyway. Why hold everyone up ?
As far as the tire tools I carried in the truck, I didn't. Never did, and honestly in 40 years of driving, I think I
could count the number of flats that I had on the road on both hands. Guess I was just lucky because it
seems like some people are always fighting tire problems.
Almost forgot, I hope those weren't your load locks leaning up against the light pole at the end of the video.

We are basically local regional if we have a Ager blowout, we try to pull into a tire shop. If not, we have to call road service but if it is just a slow leak from a boat or a nail and we see it we keep filling it until we get home and we have all the tools to jack it up. Take the tire off, it is a pain in the butt, but it saves us quite a lot of money

The last time I pulled my little bitty trailer to Minnesota, on the way back I picked up a brand-new shiny cage bolt in the trailer tire. (Thanks truckers but you know they shouldn't be there) It happened on I24 right at the first exit going east bound. Of course, it was Saturday afternoon and I had to go all the way back to Marion, spent about six hours just (luckily) finding a tire shop and I ended up buying an entire wheel and tire. It pretty much took care of the entire day and a few hundred bucks. Cage bolts are pretty darn large and I must have hit it just right. Just my luck! Glad to see the dynamic duo is back together again.

Kurt, If I was to have a tire problem, the tire store where I bought my tires would handle it & the same with my new Honda I jus bought in May they would also fix it too. But I'm also 57 & I've never had a flat tire on the side of the road, had a small nail or screw in my tires a couple times before causing a very slow leak but usually just keep adding air about once a week till it was time for new set of tires. I have a 12 volt air compressor in both my car & truck for monthly tire pressure checks or etc. Had a slow leak in my front tire on my Cub Cadet riding mower for years but it was leaking around the bead & finally had the tire shop put a tube in it, that would have been my only chance to plug a tire if it have had a nail or etc. in it. Daddy also plugged tires with a plug kit, very rarely ever took it to a tire shop unless it was a bad puncture.

Homer, I have watched your videos since you first broke 1000 of us viewers. You are like family. I also watch Amsoil Adam. I have been watching his channel about the same time. I met him this past spring in Myrtle Beach at the bike rally. Had him change the oil in my Trike. Never know, I might get the chance to meet you one day. Keep on trucking and making videos. I will surely watch them. Jerry Irmo South Carolina USA Go Trump

Nice ride ! Great to see Opie accompanying you.
Tire's is were I draw the line. At 72 I'm still able to wrench on my old iron, all be it a little harder.
I know how, have all the tools, but no more.
I keep a good tire guy on speed dial.

Great to see you both back on the road. Opie you need more money in your cheeseburger fund. Let’s see what we can do there. Definitely no money in tire repairs. 80 dollars and 5 hours? I’m not doing that for $16/hr.
