John I remember the hand incident of 4 years ago, cant believe its been 4 years. I love old lamps also. My Grandma had an old 1920s radio at the bottom of her basement steps and on top was a lamp of a horse, a palomino. It had the finest velvet coat and she had a half dozen saddles made of leather she had collected and she would change them every time I was over. She said I could have it and after she passed I went down to get it only to find My step grand father had let a antique buyer clean out all of the great stuff for his D*m bingo money. I have tryed to find another and have never seen one.
@@ScoutCrafter I look all the time,Im hopeful. Problem is I dont know what it was actually called. When ya look up horse lamp or lamp with horse 100's and 100's show up of all kinds exept the one I need and I spend so much time looking at them all. Bummer I know. But one day that jewel will show up.
Excellent job on the hand Mate!! I bet you could have one better than the original with a small block of Bondo wrapped around a Dowel and you could have mixed it to the right color pink!! And you could have shown us your skills Sculpting with the Dremel!!☻
Don't make a hand, make a hook. Howdy got his hand blew off in Korea and never went back on tv after serving in the military. He now owns a winery in the Napa Valley.
Its always unbelieveble for me to see you walkig through your hometown poormens fleamarket. What a huge mass of wonderful things are standing at the streets. Wow. After cleaning the Howdy Doody it came out very nice. Congratulations for that clean-up and an also wonderful handsculpturing. Thanks for that
Great work! I am impressed with how the cleaners removed all the dirt and discoloration. The looks very good and matches the other one well. Thanks for sharing this.
Love and cant believe what is on the poor mans flea market...also thanks for the tip on walking stick wood carver wow he's the real deal i subscribed instantly...great video...🖖
A lot of folks don't know that from 1947-1952! Bob Keeshan played Clarabell the Clown on Howdy Doody! Keeshan went on to become famous as Captain Kangaroo. I knew him when he lived on Melbury Rd. In Babylon NY. Before he moved to Connecticut. From the road, you could see a Dancing Bear costume that he had visible through a window. Fun times! 😊 I didn't know Buffalo Bob but I did know puppeteer and voice artist, Dr. Paul Winchell! Did you know he invented one of the earliest artificial hearts. He gave the patent to a University so almost noone knows this! It was one of his regrets that he was forgotten by science! We talked about it qu8te a bit! As a puppeteer and performer in my youth, I got to know a lot of people! Jim Henson wanted to hire me for the Muppet Movie but I declined. Great memories, John! Thanks for the Howdy Doody spot! It brought back a t9n of memories!
@@ScoutCrafter All amazing! I had a lot of contact with famous performers thru my music and working for the Nassau County Parks. Life was really cool then.

But then I realized that the cutoff was May 1st. And I didn't see the video until May 19th. Lol. Oops, anyhow I digress. But I do think I'm gonna try and make a screwdrivers. Just to practice for the next screwdriver challenge you do! I'll just have to get caught up on my subbed channels before you post the next one. Lol, anyhow Scout, thanks for the amazing content my friend! I've berm hooked on your channel since I stumbled across it a few years ago! With all that said thank you for the great content! Thank you for the tool show content! For the poor mans flea market, and for tool restorations as well my friend! Take care until next time!
Very nice job on the hand! It looked really good using the TH-cam video rule! What a shame that beautiful house was torn down for the garbage that replaced it.
Turned out great. I was worried at 13:30. It was starting to look like a monkey foot. Can’t wait to see it lit up. With the light you can change the three foot rule to a foot and a half. Thanks for the fun.
My family had a Niagara Falls lamp just like that, and I had a similar concept one with a Steam engine from a liquor brand way back in college. Great dorm decor.
Howdy Doody John, I gotta hand it to you ! Well, that was fun, I actually exclaimed "Wow !" after you cleaned it - what a transformation, do you think it had been in a smoker's house ? Those nostalgic pieces really take you back to another place, I always explain to our "children" when we were young in the 60s/70s there wasn't the variety or choice ( more so perhaps in the USA ) so we all had or wanted the same stuff ! It's something that gives you a shared experience and I guess there will be less of that for future generations ?
great job john as per usual ...but for that sorter thing e.g replacement plastic parts i use candle wax molds and car filler i think you could have used this method here ...cover hand in candle wax to acheive basic shape fill with filler lump of wax drill hole in wax for wrist bring parts together sand to shape paint john uk
I am the worst wood carver ever. I still have a duck in my office that I have not finished. I started carving it in 1992 during our troops annual week long trip to camp Daniel boon 😂. Looks great cheers
Another great video. Wasn't expecting a carving lesson. The tour around your neighbourhood was interesting too. They want to change the zoning rules in the city I live i to allow multi family housing
I've seen so many beautiful house disappear in my just 32 years in my area. All replaced by rapidly build standardized housing from a folder with horrible sharp bricks. Just weeks ago one of the oldest farms around has been demolished (1700's) and three homes are being errected allready. Makes me a bit sick every time.. And of course none of this is affordable to the common men..
@6:45 of Howdy video #1 - scout, i doubt those are gaiters i believe those to be fancy shmancy cowboy boots like roy rogers probably hand made understood - you dont see lot of that in queens or 42nd st
So, do people put that stuff out hoping someone will take or is it for garbage pick up? Where I live, if it's not in the garbage container it doesn't get picked up. They won't get out of the truck for anything.
Howdy Doody came out great. He looks brand new. You would never know he had a replacement hand. I remember the tv show. The audience of kids was called "the peanut gallery." Very interesting fact about basswood with almost no grain. I guess that's why it is used by hobbiests. I have never used this wood. I always learn something new with this channel.

If you have another, identical lamp, did you consider making a resin cast of the hand?
The original hand is glued into the sleeve, very little sticks out. 👍
Have you ever tried using tooth paste as a cleaner. Years ago my mother use to use it and a tooth brush for different small things that were delicate.
Yes- it makes a decent cleaner and mildly abrasive. 😃👍
