"GIJOE is the code-name for America's daring highly trained special fighting force (interject Navy Seals, Delta Force) against Cobra a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world. Interject (ISIL, or the Taliban.) Yo Joe!

      yeah, the cold war was great. Show lavish levels of overt patriotism at all times or be treated like a suspect, cause freedom. I could do without "incoming soviet nukes, get under your desks and close your eyes" school drills. Even at 8 years old we knew it was bullshit and that if nukes were coming, we were already dead. Nothing like growing up with that possibility always seeming to be just around the corner.

      it is a precious gem. Sadly military-themed shows like this have lost their innocence i recall in an interview they wanted to do them as a counter-terrorism theme with ARAH because Vietnam was still in peoples heads. And seeing victims of the Iraq War and every other Military Industrial motivated conflict in the last like two decades it would kind of be in "Bad taste"

      To me there are tons of cartoon that are just as good or better then the past ones.
      Transformers, Ninja Turtles to name a few old ones that have gotten better in time. And new shows like Wander Over Yonder, Regular Show and the new Mickey Mouse shorts.
      Plus being from the 80's I've watched my share and know there were just as much bad cartoon back the as there is now. Rude Dog and the Dweebs, Popeye and Son, freaking Rubik the Amazing Cube.

    This is the key element about GI Joe that people don't get. They were an ideal of what a modern military should aspire to be: public servants and protectors of innocents everywhere, not tools for exploitation.

    • @TherealRNOwwfpooh
      @TherealRNOwwfpooh ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is, in real-life the our servicemen (and women) are all of those things. They're public servants & are supposed to protect the innocent meanwhile holding dear to our American ideals despite engaging enemy attacks in combat, but in performing their duty to serve our country, they're also being exploited by our American government for the presidential administration's own agenda (such as searching for & getting rid of supposed Weapons of Mass Destruction that didn't really exist when George Bush Jr. formally declared a "War On Terror" after September 11th in 2001, effectively sending our American soldiers to Iraq, Iran, the American Embassy in Saudi Arabia [whose own questionable government we as a nation have a love/hate relationship with due to the inhumane practices that the Saudi ruling regime wants swept under the rug], and those Middle Eastern European countries with "stan" in their name that were being overran by terrorist groups like Al Qaeda spearheaded by Osama Bin Laden, with The Taliban being directly responsible for the 9/11 attacks), not to mention the fact that certain notable enemies were put in the positions of power they had by our own American-elected officials (Saddam ran Iraq a the time of G.I. Joe's creation because the preceding American government had put him there just for him to invade Kuwait & kick start the Gulf War, North Korea's imperialist bordering on dictatorial government only has nuclear weapons purely because the United States had given them to Kim Jung in the first place, lingering Cold War tensions once again resurfacing in the current political climate due to Russian president Vladimir Putin threatening the other nations that had ceded from the Soviet Union following its dissolution with a hostile takeover that's still ongoing & many American voters feeling as though Russian spies had covertly hijacked the 2016 presidential election to get blustering celebrity asshole Donald Trump into the White House - even though Bill Clinton's wife Hillary wasn't a likeable alternative either, in all fairness, with with the email leakage & all of that nonsense - the majority of the world hating China after they unwittingly caused the coronavirus outbreak/COVID-19 pandemic yet several common products used by everyday Americans continue to be made in Taiwan [which is owned by the Chinese government] & China itself possibly using illegal child slave labor or, else said products are likely otherwise imported from Japan, whom some senior citizen Americans may still hold a grudge against because of the circumstances surrounding both WW2 as well as the attack on Pearl Harbor, just as nobody will ever forget Germany's involvement in The Third Reich's rise to power, even though idiot deniers like to perpetuate the boldface lie that the Nazi's goal to commit mass genocide on all Jews to create an Aryan master race with Austrian figurehead Adolf Hitler never existed, despite damning incriminating visual evidence conclusively proving that The Holocaust did factually happen).
