i lost my mum in 2019 a week before Christmas and it broke me, but no one knew what to say or talk to me about what I'm going through, they always said the same thing and i got tired of it. it made me feel like I wasn't being heard, then COVID hit and i didnt have anyone to talk to... what got me through it was hearing people talk about thier experience through death and grief, i felt like i wasnt alone after all.. it helped me so much and made me the man i am today... we should be talking about death, it's a natural thing, unfortunately it's a natural darkness, and there is a alot of darkness in the world... but there's always a light thay guide's you through that darkness, someone's there's offering you a hand. don't be scared of death, welcome her, she's not evil, she's the guide for their passing to the afterlife.
Sweetheart, I'm so sorry about your mum. I lost my mum at 6 ; by the time I was 20 I'd lost pretty much every member of my family who knew and cared about me. It suks. But life goes on, or it doesn't. Trust me, going on is better. I'm a mum myself. As long as my kids and grandkids remember me I live on. Your mum's still here, you're her legacy, you live, and as long as you do, she does as well. 😪🥲🫠 be gentle with yourself. Love is eternal, there is no expiration date.
Today (Jan 8) is 18 years since my mother passed. We looked after her, kept her at home. She was compos mentis right up until the last couple days. She was 91.5 years of age and said she was "ready to go." I miss her every single day. Thank gawd she had the presence of mind to have a trust set up and Neptune Society and all of that. It makes it so much less stressful for loved ones. Mom was one of a kind. She lived a full, full life, and there are so many things I wish I'd thought to ask her. The worst part is the finality of it all. The second worst part is losing that touchstone ---- the person who bore you and with whom you had a loving, special connection. A true best friend. I realize not a lot of people were so lucky as to have a wonderful parent (or two). And that fills my heart with sadness. Mom, you were The Best. Mom ----- I love you so very very much.
Tilda Swinton is helping us thru life and our departure. In a recent interview for the New York Times she said: quote: "I suggest that art offers us an opportunity to be quiet and still and to allow, in that stillness, for a connection to form." She embodies and inspires me to seek and have that connection. The workd would be a better place. ❤ 🎉 😊
Controlling one's own end seems like a right we should all embrace. The week before this past Christmas, my father in law drove himself to the hospital, parked across two spaces, walked in, and collapsed just inside the doorway. If he hadn't done that, there is no telling how long he would have lain at home before one of his relatives who live in his city would have found him. My late husband was talking to the Death With Dignity representatives just prior to becoming critically terminal, but was not able to sign papers before coming home to die with us. Good, compassionate hospice care, and my (now late) mother in law being a retired nurse, allowed a death that was as peaceful as it could get under the circumstances (cancer can go fuqk itself).
This was such an important discussion and I'm so glad to hear her thoughts on it. I wish I had looked death in the face when my mom told me she was going to die and she did. I felt so foolish for naively thinking she wouldn't and couldn't die. But the night before she died, I prayed that she wouldn't suffer. Now I'm thinking of how to have a good life and death and to accept that it will happen to my friends one day and to myself. I am perpetually in awe of Tilda and her brilliance. And now I will need to travel to the Highlands in the summer to smell the peat after a rain.
grateful for not missing this glad to hear her perspective and glad people make high quality film about the important aspects of life that people don't tend to consider worth attention or worthy of being considered thematic for cinema
What a great interview, really a great getting to know Tilda Swinton. I could listen to her for hours. Looking forward to the film. It sounds like a change up for Maestro Pedro.
“Death doesn’t discriminate “ “I’ve imagined death so much it feels like a memory “ -Hamilton. I do not fear death, I fear the pain I’ll leave behind. I am a grain of sand on a beach. The world and the Earth goes on. I will only live once, if I do it right, once is enough. I’m satisfied.
Oh, I really hope lots and lots of people see this film and lose their fear of death and dying. I would love to live in a society where more of us are willing to talk openly about the end of life.
I'm 64, I don't know, and I know I don't know what happens after, but I do know I hope I'm outside when my time comes. I want to see the sky and the trees, feel the grass under me, the fresh air around me, I want to leave this earth with the smell of just how beautiful this world is. " I see leaves of green, red roses too, and I think to myself, what a wonderful world." . We're really good at screwing ourselves, I recently told a total stranger that we (Americans) have a really bad habit of shooting ourselves in the foot. It turned out he was military and started laughing his ass off just before he said he agreed with me completely. I don't like or trust pretty much anybody anymore, but I do still believe in the basic good of humanity in general. I probably shouldn't , but I do. I have to. I have grown kids, and grandkids too now. I know it's up to them now , but how do you accept peace and leave when you see what we're leaving them with. 😪

I should remember Michael Clayton, but I don't. Should, don't. I mean, beer has to negate some cells, right? So, expendable maths and Michael Clayton. I also need 30-45 seconds with Colbert to fanboy his career a bit (with Sedaris and Dinello, etc.), how he and a few others brought me through covid with a clearer mind, and the thing about his hair. Oh! And the time he fell apart with Jon Stewart trying to do comedy with a banana!! Let's roll that tape please...
