His songs are the only songs I can listen to without going on to a different thing. They are just so beautiful and relaxing.

That old fashioned swing is something else, and he does it so perfect
His combinations of jazz, blues, swing, pop, his golden voice, and his amazing executions were just some of the greatest performances ever, Old Blue Eyes was one of the greatest singers and his class and slick smoothness still have no comparison.

Count Basie Band conducted by Quincy Jones. Doesn't get any better than that.

Quincy knew and worked with positively everyone who was anyone. But I sure didn't know he worked with Frank! You are absolutely correct--this is the best of the very best talent. Frank demanded the best. He makes it look so seamless and effortless, but you know he made them rehearse every single note to perfection. Wish there was anything even close to this level of music nowadays, for us. We get bupkis.

He worked frequently with Sinatra in concert and on record, including his 1984 album "L.A. is my Lady." Sinatra made an appearance in the 1990 documentary "Listen Up: The Lives of Quincy Jones."

The good thing about sinatra was that youd get a different performance each time he sang the song, either the words would alter a bit or hed leave an extra beat but hed change it and keep it new

So much of Sinatra that we see here on TH-cam, is well past his best days, when his voice was ragged and all but gone. It really tarnishes the performer rather than lauds him. Here he is at his most confident, and mature, with that rich strong voice. Just plain brilliant.

  • @Worfffff
    @Worfffff 9 ปีที่แล้ว +45

My dad, Lou Hittler was lead alto on the band on the right, and Sinatra was not drunk, this is one of the better renditions I have heard in fact, and he being a lyricist frequently shuffled words. Now, not to say he never drank while he performed, and had he not over indulged on booze and cigarettes, he might still be alive today on his 100th birthday.

    Fly me to the moon
Let me swing among those stars
Let me see what spring is like
    On a, Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me
    Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
    All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you
Why don't you fill my heart with song
Let me swing for ever more
Because you are all I long for
All I worship and i adore

Sinatra was the greatest. I was fortunate enough to see him in concert, 10 rows back, just about 6 years before he died. Yes, he changed the lyrics, but he sang with such power and passion. He was the king of swing.

Julian Smith This is a different arrangement by Quincy Jones with the open brass fortissimos. The original was the Nelson Riddle recordings done at Capitol Studios in the 1950s. But, Quincy had a way of taking what Nelson did and really capitalizing on the strengths of the Basie band in the 60s.
