Probably the best, most dynamic live performance of this song ever captured on video.. Frank is absolutely mesmerizing here, his phrasing and splitting the time to make it swing even harder is off the charts, plus his whole body movements ( the Sinatra ‘shoulder shimmy’) and facial expressions expressions convey a great joy in his performance, a man supremely confident in his skin and the band under the equally animated conducting of the great Quincy Jones complements the Chairman perfectly! And that trombone solo, although it diverges from the legendary Milt Bernhardt solo, might be just as good, or even better in that moment! This folks, is one for the ages!
Thanks for such an expressive comment. You're right. I just saw this for the first time ever, though I've listened and watched Sinatra since I was maybe 3 years old (that would be 1956). His pure enjoyment, especially when he sat and acknowledged the band, is unmatched in the annals of recorded music (well, maybe, see Cream, Crossroads, Jimi Hendrix, any time). This is an absolute classic. I also love his "High Hopes" with all those kids (saw it live when I was just like those kids). Let's revive the age of innocence.
Un privilegio disfrutar este video con dos grandes Frank con la Orquesta dirigida nada más y nada menos que por Quincy Jones, solo que me quisiera imaginar como hubiera sido el solo de Trombon a cargo de Melba Liston❤
he takes a step back and lets the trombonist take the spotlight during his solo. What a fucking class act. Not only a great singer, but a true showman. Long live Sinatra.
He's essentially b&w Beiber, some character in his voice and a load of charisma but not the best singer of his day let alone all time. He does have good PR: eg he wasn;t the heart of the ratpack, that was Bogart. Wrote a handful of forgettable trash. Unskilled actor whose big personality did a lot of heavy lifting for his lack of ability. Highly over-rated.
@Corpsefoot Gaming Not talent and off-key xDDDDD Sure!! Now that you got some attention, you can leave. But please, don't listen to this untalented and off-key singer again.
O.V. Bonner Dude, You are so Right!!! The Chairman will forever stand the test of time. Don't you wish we had a time machine and we're in his audience at one of his Vegas shows? Phyllis O
My baby is 4 1/2 months old and he loves Sinatra...he loved it in my belly and still calms down when he hears this song specifically..ohhhh how I love Old Blue Eyes
The superman of singers. An uncanny sense of musical, lyrical improvisation...every song he sings/sang - an unforgettably, great entertainment adventure!
I'm so happy that my band director had us playing Fly Me To The Moon because it introduced me to this amazing, wonderful, artist who inspired me to play to best of my potential. Words don't even describe how much I look up to this man and how just outstanding he was.
Wow. It starts out great and gets better. Frank just feels it...gets into a nice groove with the players and they all team up on every single note to bring it home. Magic. Live Music doesn't get much better than this.
Pure and total genius. Just try singing this in the shower to see how difficult it is and how much tone and subtlety he applies. He was a master. Wonderful. Thanks for posting this.
My twin brother and I watched the special of Frank on HBO this weekend. My brother just thinks this man is the greatest......... and he is ..... was.... is. So i came into the office this morning and on you tube, played, "I've got you under my skin." As they said in the documentary, he is an "Icon."
Every single musician sharing that stage with Frank knew damn well they were playing for and in the presence of greatness. There is NO equal in his genre.
THE best version of this song, more dynamic than the Count Basie album, thanks I think to Quincy Jones conducting. Frank is really into the beat here, completely in sync with the music. The trombone solo is the best of all, to which Frank sits down out of respect, and the snapping finger salute he does is the essence of cool.
lcs1956 yeah, great stuff and like you said he shows his respect indeed....speaking of which it would be also respectful if you'd not refer to a trombone solo as a trumpet solo. Ugh! you got under my skin with that!...LOL;-) (and yeah that unquestionably was Q conducting.)
I've watched that clip for years wondering if I was the only one to think that same thing regarding his dynamic accenting vocal beat. Thanks for that perfect description. Obviously, totally agree!!
His dynamics were insane. Nice and easy .. bigger .. back to easy .. GIGANTIC (that growl at 2:55) and then soft as a feather. No one like him. Add in how hilarious him and his "pack" were and he's probably the best entertainer of all time. Oh - and throw an academy award in there, just for kicks. Great video! Plus that band was just smokin! These days if a song has a 4th chord it's considered musical genius.
My favorite Sinatra year, singing a song he wears like a glove,he owns this song. I have loved Sinatra my entire life,I love to look at Sinatra when he sings,he is mesmerizing. I love, love, love Sinatra. I inherited my love of Sinatra from my mom who feels the same way, haha. What a man, what a voice, oozing charisma. I got to see him in Tacoma, you could hear a pin drop when he came out then a roar. Mr Sinatra was in the house.
+Aragorn Ellessar He didn't write his songs. This one is a Cole Porter song, for instance. Sinatra did have a great, distinctive voice, but what made Sinatra extra special was the WAY he interpreted them...especially his "phrasing".
This performance is from a benefit concert for Dismas House in St. Louis that was originally broadcast on closed circuit television. Several years ago, it was re-broadcast on HBO or Showtime and thereafter, it was commercially released on a DVD accompanying a Rat Pack CD. Sinatra is backed by Count Basie and Quincy Jones, a Sinatra friend, is conducting the orchestra.
Nick at Night (in 1998) as part of The Museum of Television & Radio Showcase series and released on DVD as part of the Ultimate Rat Pack Collection: Live & Swingin.
Best air control and enunciation ever. The way he could hold his breath and hit another whole line never ceases to amaze me. 🧡 My grandfather raised me right :)
that's quincy in back with the best band of the 20th century. frank up front with all the solo horns you need coming out of his little chest. the best, can't be beat and never will be. wow !

So many singers alive today try to sing like him. It's crazy because this man who once lived made so many albums and top the charts with many great songs. He even beat my favorite band of all time, *The Beatles* and now he's never mentioned anymore. If you think an impersonator sounds close to his singing than you don't know Sinatra. My younger generation doesn't even know who he is because we having terrible singers like Michael Bubble taken over. Why would anyone want to listen to someone else other than the the real stuff? Just put in a Sinatra album and listen to the same songs but better. You won't be listening to different songs. But they'll sound better and have more feeling to them
Jules Rensch Absolutely! Diana Krall is great and she has acknowledged the influence of Sinatra and Peggy Lee on her work. The Look Of Love CD that she recorded a few years ago had Claus Ogerman as the arranger; he served the same role on Sinatra's album with Antonio Carlos Jobim in the mid 60s.
My damn good taste in music brought ME here! NOTHING else. I love Batman, but he didn’t bring me here. I’ve been listening to this man (and his friends too) since I was nine years old.

@@sm-tm3dr I'd disagree, Sinatra inspired Michael Buble, Seth MacFarlane, and Logic

The Voice.
for sure up there in the top but he did not have a multi genre voice sadly such as elvis or tom jones...but he is the best crooner/jazz singer ever.
It helps to have great songs to sing. Frank’s Nelson Riddle swing ear is my favorite. I love that swing feeling. Frank’s phrasing was superb.
His timing and phrasing is impeccable.
yup...I remember when I first understood that.
My love of Frank Sinatra came from my mother. After listening to him for years I can never get enough.
I think his voice was the most magnificent during this time. Amazing...
One of the GREATEST live performances EVER!!!!
I'm a hiphop man and I think this is simply magnificent we will never have music like it again. Let's keep real music alive
The phrasing, that delivery...so good
Totally agree
Of all Francis's strenghts, there were many, his phrasing was stellar. The modern-day Bard. The poet.
I love Frank Sinatra.I can. pick out his voice anywhere.
God bless him.

Sinatras greatest upbeat recording..and maybe the greatest musical recording of all time.
Such a natur-ral swagger that this man has.
Jesus. A thousand times I heard it, a thousand times new.
Frank is the very definition of smooth
The swing and phrasing he had was unique, his body expression, natural seducer and a musician without equal what is usually called a genius!!

coololds85 Wonderful. I have the same opinion. I'm a crooner and I like to keep it traditional croonin'. Check my stuff out
I've got to tell you again from the mountain top, HE IS UNTOUCHABLE," COME FLY WITH ME "AND SEE IF "FAIRY TALES CAN COME TRUE"
