After you have been here for a few months you know for a fact how much it costs because you've been living it. Your video is perfect, complete and truthful. For a single guy without bad habits $1200 per month is comfortable. I have a big house two cars and two kids so mine is $3000 per month. "If you can't handle that you can't handle the Philippines" perfectly said!

I enjoy the Philippines. As you said, it’s a bit crazy, but the people are chill. Thailand was a close second, but the language barrier was the deal breaker.
I suggest you check out Udon Thani in the Northeast. Great food and super chill vibe. After a couple of weeks of diving, I would fly up to UT and relax. Also super cheap to stay and eat.

I looked at Thailand and Malaysia but the SRRV visas sealed the deal. Cheapest permanent residency (other than your home country) in the world. Least as far as I've ever found. Best Regards and Best Wishes!

The visa requirements in Mexico is far cheaper. While rents are more expensive. Internet is higher band and overall better. Food prices are a little bit higher and way more palatable than the Philippines. The Philippines has fresher seafood and is my favorite food source in the Philippines. As for the big elephant in the room. Dating is easier in the Philippines. Age gap relationships are not uncommon and if you like real young woman 30+ year age gaps the Philippines is the destination plus they speak a pigeon English that’s easy to understand. It’s easy to learn basic Tagolog and Visayan words and phrases if you’re willing to learn? I like Latin America and Asia both have their own unique advantages.

Travel safe during your journey to, and time in, Thailand. I'll be arriving there in Pattaya on Tuesday.
To your point about overpaying ATM fees, it'd be interesting to know if you find ATM's with a similar type of fee structure.

Food is the single biggest challenge. It’s not that you can’t find good food, you can but it’s an effort, it’s a hassle. Also going to a western style restaurant and paying western prices does not guarantee quality. On a positive note if you want to stay healthy then go to the roadside fruit stands which are everywhere. You can buy mangoes, tomatoes, bananas etc and that would be my breakfast every day.

  • @KB3TLE

All just depends on how frugal you are. Some people are quite happy being thrifty most of the time ? I am one of those. Others require more "GREASE" for their wheels ! The beauty of the Philippines is that you can have whatever you require - or - desire -- somewhere -- depending on the location. - - - Like you said - $145 right down the road - not $320 ?!? That $1000 budget is done by many - some by necessity - some by desire ! A $1500 life there is quite good - given most Filipinos are very content with 30K Pesos ? ( like $500/mo.) --- That $1500 is like about $4500 in many areas of the US !!!

We live off 30K PHP per month.
    Food 10K PHP
    Wifi1K PHP
    Diesel 1K PHP
    Drinking water 300 PHP
    Water bill 250 PHP
    Entertaining/eating out 3K PHP
We don't have a mortgage/rent as we built our new home in Isabela province. We are 100% off-grid solar so no electricity bill.
At the same time we built the house, we bought a 2 hectare farm to grow rice.
