  • This is one greasy oven in need of some major TLC. The transformation will amaze you and is so, SO satisfying to watch. It will motivate you to clean your own stove, no matter how clean or dirty it is. Easy off may help, but I have a method that works even better. Warning, wear gloves, wear a mask, work in a ventilated area. This can be harmful to your lungs or skin. OK disclaimer over. But seriously, be careful, we aren't responsible for any harm by using this cleaner. Watch to find out what it is.

When the grease is that thick, step one should be to use a paint scraper to scrape off at least the outermost part. That leaves less to remove, but also it removes the outer skin of the grease and exposes the remaining residue to be more susceptible to chemical cleaners.

Correct, oven cleaner & a scrapper would've removed all of that grease regardless of how thick it is.

I'd be tempted to use a 1,000 amp laser but that's likely to also remove paint if the paint is dark. Such lasers are sold to remove rust from metal and it's the darker colour that absorbs the heat vaporizing it.
I usually lay down paper towels and spray the cleaner onto that till it sticks to the surface then respray every 20 minutes for hours, at least four hours if not longer, really depends on how long I'm willing to stay up though I use an alarm to remind me to spray so short naps are possible.
That oven door is removable without tools, you could actually have it soaking in a bath tub or a disposable wading pool. Disassembly really helps with cleaning.
Waxing the cleaned surfaces several times with car wax might help make future cleanings easier but of course it would then need regular rewaxing hence frequent cleanings but it should be frequently cleaned anyways. I have seen people use mineral oil to dilute the grease and make it easier to clean especially with kitchen cabinets.
I also use those scrub brushes that you attach to electric drills a lot.

TIP FOR REMOVING THICK GREASE: I use a heat gun, or steamer, to soften the grease some then use a plastic scraper and it'll scrape right off like sludge, then the cleaner to finish! 🙂

My dad was just like this sweet gentleman. My sister and I cleaned up for him, but he had a 3,000sf home! There was a slew of books, shelves and collections of cars, planes, train sets too. Dad passed in January of 2020. We wanted to clean, shampoo carpets and get rid of old furniture. Our youngest brother was dads executor and decided that we should only be at dads while brother was there…locks were changed, cameras were installed, etc. We didn’t get to clean. To this day I don’t understand why he locked us out. Very sad.

Sometimes old people are scared and play siblings against each other. My dad did this. Sad but true. I think you should meet with your brother, perhaps with a mediator to clear the air. It not about your father anymore. It is about the relationship with your brother. Worst case scenario it'll remove the paint at which point just repaint it. Even hand painted would be an improvement. Again, you've done such a great job. Your elderly relative is blessed to have you help him. Thanks for sharing! 😊

As clean as you got it (and, there is no denying that!), what remains on the sides, and behind the stove, needs to be gotten at. I can see that you are in this for the long haul, and you are helping out family, which is great, so, I wish you the best!

I wonder how TSP would work. Especially on the cabinets. Gotta take precautions too cuz it's some bad ass stuff but I doubt it's worse than ammonia. Keep the windows open, gloves, mask etc. Whatever it recommends for caution. Get some kind of scraper in there too. Pretty crazy that mess. Nice to help an old man. Good job. Satisfying.

Then no video, although it would be a great follow up to raise money and create a video of the new one. But without changing his habits it will go right back to what it was. Diana taught him to keep it cleaner but I don't know if the habit stuck!

I also use the little blue scrubbers, SOS pads with a degreaser. The blue stuff is annoying, but it does work.

I have found that you can also use Bathroom spray such as Scrubbing Bubbles as a kitchen degreaser (under normal circumstances) I love it, although you had a really tough job here. I find the aerosol version works best. I love the fresh smell.

Paint stripper would work on that hood, but then it would need repainting. I’m sure the filter isn’t maintained, so it may not be worth keeping it. It’s a losing battle, but you’ve shown it can be remedied, if needed. Throwing out things is not an option for most, but an “old dog can learn a few tricks.”😆

I think I have watched your earlier video also, about cleaning the kitchen, stovetop, floor for this gentleman. And I tried to follow your tips. I used Amonia the bottle I bought from Home Depot. Diluted, concentrated, with other chemicals, baking soda, Vinegar, salt, Hydrogen Per Oxide.... But, I could not get the burnt in, caked, dried greese from this one burner that is used the most on the stove top. The only thing that worked, I was very, VERY careful with the razor blade. It did peal off lots of that grunge. I am still at it, but very slowly, I don't want to scrape the paint off this, only 3 years old oven/stovetop. Did I miss anything from your tips? Not sure. Any ideas?

WD-40 spray on and let sit for at least (depending upon how much grease there is) then wipe off. I feel the best degreaser for the kitchen...works on cabinets as well no damage is done the cabinets. Range hoods are also a great way to clean with WD-40.

What a great job you’ve done. You’ve got a ❤️ of gold. Sad that it got like that in the beginning. Why did a relative not go in maybe once a month and help out with cleaning? Would have saved all your hard work 🌼

    • @BeardedBarley1
      @BeardedBarley1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

Sometimes friends and relatives are just as bad off if not worse so that they are unable to help. Also, usually people like this man don’t have relatives, or their relatives live far away because the person refused to move with them away from what this person considers home and/or refused to move once the health problems became an issue. On top of that, often people in poor health or of poor mind don’t ask for help and/or in fact refuse it because they think it puts people out. They don’t want to be a burden, real or imagined. I think it’s important to tread carefully when looking at situations like this one in the video. We can never really know the whole story. Just appreciate the goodness where you see it and be thankful for it when it happens.

Yeah, Krud Kutter is fantastic, it is usually in the paint department of hardware stores. It would not have removed the paint from the hood (but the hood could be repainted with high temperature appliance paint).
