For all of who left rude comments, she did say that everyone isn’t capable of replacing things. Instead of wasting time being ignorant, go help someone who needs it.
My next door neighbor lived alone (his mother passed away 10 years ago) and his kitchen was in the exact same condition! It took HOURS and days to clean off the grease and walkways. After it was done, he was so happy and it really made a huge difference in his attitude. I'm sure your family member was extremely happy too when he saw the clean floor!!!!! Amazing work!!!!!! xo
Great job! I have one suggestion to anyone reading this: Please don't rinse the grease down the sink. Grease will build up in your pipes and septic system and the formations of fatbergs (like icebergs) will damage your pipes. It is very expensive to fix the plumbing. It's best to just throw the greasy wipes away instead of rinsing it down the drain.
My son used to make bacon every day. Then he would dump the grease down the kitchen drain! Can you imagine? Yup within months the drain was backed up. My dad owned the house and was renting it to two of my three sons ( the youngest was still in high school). Luckily my two older sons’ dad was a plumber and was able to clean the drain. Thank goodness. But what a mess! My oldest son no longer puts grease down the drain. 🤨
Luckily, the active ingredient in drain cleaner is sodium hydroxide.... same as oven cleaner. Doubt those pipes will clog since the sodium hydroxide dissolved that old grease so it can be washed away never to offend again.
@@gtron7692 sodium hydroxide becomes diluted. If that were the case, less plumbers would be needed. I vote a big No to letting grease go down the drain.
This is why I plan to teach my son how to do housecleaning. We underestimate the impact of “women’s work” and definitely under appreciate it. It’s not just about “helping women” with the chores, but learning how to be self-sufficient
This is the most important comment on this video. THIS is the problem here. We do not do our sons any favors by “shielding” and “protecting” them from cleaning responsibilities while they are growing up in our homes. You are setting them up for unhappiness and potentially misery - like here in this video - by using misogynistic practices in our homes. We need to love our sons enough to make certain they know how to clean and get plenty of practice doing it.
@@Bronte866 Right ON! These 'men' think it's somehow beneath them to clean after themselves. They'll just let it get gross again. We women weren't put here to do these things for perfectly capable human beings.
Absolutely right -- boys need to learn how to do everything, cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, sewing, knitting, crochet, laundry. And the girls should learn how to use drills, hammers, saws, how to diagnose electrical problems, understand their cars, add washer fluid, do tire pressure. I learned these skills from my Dad, my Mom and my brother. I have tools and I know how to use them.
I used to be a custodian at a university. When the students moved out, we cleaned the apartments. When we came across some seriously nasty or hard to clean things, we would get creative. Oven cleaner was used to clean bath tubs, acid based toilet bowl cleanser were used to remove mineral stains from sinks and tubs, and it worked wonders at cleaning stainless steel. You did a great job improvising and being safe.
So... what would you use to clean a bathtub with a thick coat of minerals, mostly calcium and iron? I hit it with everything I could think of except what said not to use on porcelain. Not sure that I made any progress at all. The surface of most of that tub feels like coarse sandpaper with a couple thin layers of hard enamel painted over it.
Thank you for helping this poor man. As a woman of seventy-four years, with two severely arthritic knees, I find it difficult to be the houseproud woman I was years ago.
sorry but that's not an excuse to live in this filth. If you are incapable of maintaining a certain level of cleanliness, maybe assisted living is on the table. Not to be rude. We all get old.
Danielle Smith, you are rude as hell to talk to this Senior lady like that. You have no idea how painful arthritis knees and other joints are.... Some old people live on SS, some widow women only live on 500.00 or less, damn sure can't afford help to come clean your house at the prices they charge around here. And my daughter worked in 2 different nursing homes as a teen to earn money, believe me I can tell some of the horror that went on in there... I'd never put my Mom in a nursing home nor would I ever go in one... So until you are in this lady's shoes shut the hell up stop judging.....
@@JerseyAccent653 For someone ‘not being rude’ you managed quite nicely. Your other comment ‘we all get old’ lacked conviction, as though you are still at the age where you believe it an impossibility as far as you are concerned. That made me laugh, it will no doubt make you cry one day.
We used to take a group of middle school students around to help the elderly in the early 2000s. I remember an older couple who had both gotten sick. They were trying to take care of each other. Their house became unkept. We washed walls, removed extra newspapers (a lot of paper), washed dishes. They cried tears of joy the entire time. They hadn’t seen their furniture or floors in years. They were so thankful and we were happy to be a blessing to them again. Thank you for sharing your kindness. The love in your heart is a blessing to others.
After hearing you tell his story I just want to give this elderly gentleman a big hug! 🤗 I’m teaching my son how to keep a clean safe home so when he is off on his own he will know what to do.
After 2 years of major depression I finally felt well enough to get my house in order. I hadn’t cleaned that entire time. My house was filthy and I was embarrassed. I found an amazing woman who got my house looking beautiful again. She was compassionate and empathetic. She didn’t say it was disgusting and gross. She didn’t say she wanted to gag. She treated me with such respect and dignity. Typically when a home is this bad, mental health issues are involved. Try coming from a place of compassion when describing how the job made you feel.
Thank u for this comment. I have chronic depression & I go through times I just can't clean. It takes way too much effort. Even loading dishes in the dishwasher seems an impossible task. It's so hard to explain this to some people. I literally physically can't make myself do what needs to be done. Thank you for speaking out. I'm super embarrassed at times about my house. I'm feeling some better & in the process of deep cleaning. I have thought about hiring someone to help but I'm too embarrassed. I think though this might be the best thing. Ty again, no one understands if they haven't been through it 💕
Exactly this. A tiny bit of care over the language used in life can make all the difference. For many, the fear hearing such emotive language in describing the mess they’re already ashamed of is precisely why they’ve not reached out for help sooner.
She degraded him so bad then went on to say he was a family member who’s wife had passed away. If he’s a family member why didn’t she take her rear end over there and help him before it got that bad?
Because he didn’t see a problem with it and didn’t want them to change anything. Plus they lived in another state. But they finally convinced him to move close.
What a blessing you are to that family member. I never thought about how a person could be affected in this way when losing their spouse, but it makes sense especially when the person has never cleaned.
@@ratherbfishing455 would they also pay for the nursing home and make sure he wasn't being abused? Maybe they could pay for a weekly cleaning person, that would be cheaper
I had major back surgery 4 years ago. Since then I've been not only having excruciating back pain, but nerve damage to everything from waist down. I fall frequently and have difficulty doing day to day stuff In 4 years time my house has been neglected Thank God for people like you! Making a difference in someone's life is awesome!
Back pain is terrible. I have that too & hip issues from psoriatic arthritis & I just keep at cleaning 10 minutes at a time (then I have to stop & rest to get the sciatica pain to reduce)…but 10 minutes here & there really helps. Look at @aurikateriina ‘s videos too…uplifting content
Wow. The steam cleaner may not have done 100% of the job, but it did help A LOT. The Easy-Off and Saran wrap was genius! You guys are SO patient! Nice job!
I love the way you encourage people to see the humanity behind the mess. I love cleaning and being in a clean space, but I fully understand how that goes on the back burner for people depending on their situation. It's been on the back burner for me a few times, namely during pregnancy.
I am generally a VERY clean person, probably obsessively so. But when my depression sets in, all bets are off. These powerful cleaners have saved my sanity.
@@marigeobrien Dear Marige, the person who lives in this house is a man, not a "she." The woman who's cleaning is the elderly man's relative and she's trying to help him. Love from Amanda in Australia
Thank you for this video. I had to do the same thing a few years ago. I went to visit, he had lost his wife 10 years prior. It's so heart breaking to see a once spotless home turn into such a mess. You did a great job and the results were amazing. Folks please check on your loved ones. They could be dealing with things like depression, loss of function, lack of know how, feeling overwhelmed...they're too embarrassed or proud (or stubborn in my case) to ask for help. Family is family, don't let your loved ones live like this if you can help.
Yet for 12 years this family neglected this man. She admits to knowing how gross it was getting and not one person taught him how to clean or stepped up to do it themselves or hire a home health aide to assist him. This person is not worthy of admiration. She neglected an elderly person until she could exploit him for views on TH-cam. People should absolutely take care of their elderly relatives. This person did not do that. They neglected him for 12 years
@@minecraftqueen9076 You don’t know the how this went at all. All you know is what was shown on the video. The dynamic and the relationship could have been such that he refused to let anyone come in and help him. Maybe it took a lot of convincing for him to let her come in and do this. There are many different scenarios that could have taken place. This wasn’t a case of exploitation. Look up the meaning of what it is to exploit someone. You people love to throw this word around without knowing a full story or the true definition. How bout you stop and better yourself instead of wasting your time judging others.
@@minecraftqueen9076 He may not be capable of living alone. But that is only one of many scenarios that could have brought him here. We just don’t know. To judge someone without having all the facts is just ignorant and shows such a lack of insight.
❤ This is one of the best things I’ve seen on TH-cam. Not only is the “how to” very helpful, but the fact that you did that for such a deserving guy just melts my heart. Well done!
What a truly lovely lady you are. This cleanup is a priceless gift. I hope you were able to give this gentleman a few more tips on keeping his kitchen clean. If he can possibly afford it, a cleaning service, even just once a month would prevent a repeat of this scenario. Kudos to you for your hard work and kindness.
That is so sweet you helping your relative! I woulda loved in this video to see his reaction shot of his face walking in to seeing the clean floor! Love the vocal reaction. Gifts of service is grossly overlooked. This is truly an inspirational video. I LOVE helping old folks clean their house and make them more comfortable. I wish the church in general spent more on that type of ministry on the elderly in the church and community.
I was a business and forensic cleaner for a number of years. I love watching you take on a kitchen or other area like this one. Total professional. Love it!! Just brought tears to my eyes.
I'm so glad he has you .my dad was the same way after my mom passed away . He never had to do anything my mom did everything. my dad wouldn't allow anyone to move anything around the house because he wanted it the way my mom had it . He mourned my mom for years until he passed away .I went over and cleaned his house once a week and made sure I put things back the way they were . Thank you for being there for him .
What a true blessing you and your husband are to your family member! You put in so many hours of hard work and Gifted that person beyond measure. I was thinking of a couple things to expedite the job.. I wondered if using a large scraper to get the worst of the grease off wouldn't help Make the job go quicker and then to scrape it into an old food container of some type and just throw it in the trash. I was concerned that all the grease going down the drain might clog up the pipes. Hopefully they were remained and clog- free. I Realize this is an older video, but maybe it will help someone who is reading it now. This was such a great idea to help someone Looking to bless a person in their life! Thanks so much 😇
You are a true angel! I have several health issues that interfere with my ability to do a lot of housework now, and it is a huge pill to swallow. I know this gentleman likely cried at how amazing the difference was. Thank you for being willing to help someone who doesn't have the ability to attack the job himself!
Thank you for not shaming this gentleman too much. Having been widowed 12yrs ago, few understand the crippling downward spiral of depression that can accompany loss which becomes compounded by guilt and shame. I won't get into details, only to say that my house was quite similar to this man's house, if not worse for having three dogs filling the black void. My outdoor living space and my public image was that I was fastidious and overly organized so one suspected. I could not bring myself to ask anyone for help ... but secretly prayed for someone to save me from myself. Do yourself a favor, folks. One crucial cleaner she did not test is vinegar. The only cleaning products I have in my house are vinegar, ammonia and I occasionally will resort to bleach. Choices like this I largely attribute to not being on a single medication at 60. But distilled white vinegar is amazing in its versatility, speed and efficiency and the vinegar smell lasts for only a short period; not even a day. And, yes, LOVE me my OCedar Spin Mop!
You are an awesome lady to do this for this man. But bless him he may not be physically able to run a mop over. Thank you so much for your kindness. Blessings to you and your husband for stepping in and helping him.
This is outrageous. Someone should have intervened long before this. My heart absolutely ACHES that our elderly is living like this. It’s a huge reminder to us all to not neglect visiting our family, friends or neighbors who are seniors to be sure they are ok and not going without. If it weren’t for these older people we would never be here and we need to cherish them. I’m grateful to have watched this and taken this as a reminder myself. Bless you for coming to this man’s time of need.
I have to agree with the sentiment but there are people who refuse. Both neglect and pride (refusing help) are problems. Probably the pride drives people away and the neglect makes elderly push away help. Never ending circle
@@jturtle5318 I agree that it can get complicated and many factors can play a part. But that’s when we have to care enough to not give up. We try until not unless.
You are a special woman indeed.....most people would walk away from such an impossible job. Truly amazing! My mom was like you, she accomplished what others could not. Beautiful job.
If this was a family member, why did it take 12 years for anyone to help???!! Utter neglect like that is called elder abuse. Someone should have stepped in to help him before it got that horrifically bad. Just makes a TH-cam video about it to exploit for channel views, and leaves with just “I left you some Swiffers”??? WTF?? He obviously needs more ongoing help than that. This situation is f’d up. 😡
Suggestion: use a tarp when you need to cover a large area, instead of the multiple pieces of Saran Wrap. Also, borax and hot water works well to bring back the original color of vinyl flooring (after getting the grease up), in my experience.
@@marshakott1574 You get rolls of real wide, thin plastic mesnt for covering floors when painting etc. It’s cheap too. I think I paid the equivalent of $2.99 the last time I bought a roll. It would be much better for this than a tarp, because it has to cover and make sure air doesn’t get to the floor/cleaning solution for the cleaning to be most effective. 😊
I've just discovered you Diana and I want to echo the sentiments of the ladies like Jen Em, Trish Fitzpatrick and Deborah in that I also want to sing your praises for this wonderful thing you've done for your relative...And for Me! Because You have lifted my spirits and renewed my faith in the Human Race because you tackled that monumental job; I can relate to the gentleman; I am 73 and disabled and you have helped me to know which products work best, On my limited budget, I could NEVER be able to try all those different products; Thank you for all you.
I tried about 7 cleaning products when we got this house. I spent hours on the fridge alone! What I finally stuck with is a capfull of 3% peroxide in a cup of Greased Lightening. Let it sit for a few minutes and it cleans almost everything. Got welding fingerprints off a white fridge!
Omgoodness, that floor must've been super slippery. Poor man, he needs consistent, weekly help with his housekeeping. So nice of you to help him, and just out of the kindness of your heart. Not many people will help the elderly like this.
My mom was a clean freak. I became a clean freak. I could NEVER understand how any human being could live this way. My oldest son is a complete slob and I have been frustrated with how he has kept his room for years (We live together). What I discovered is that he actually LIKES being in a cleaner space but doesn't know how to go about it. He has tolerated my deep cleaning of his room which usually takes a full day. I also had an Aunt who lived this way. She would put on clothing and makeup immaculately but lived in waist high filth. I just can't wrap my mind around some of that. It takes a great deal of compassion to serve someone in this way. Bless you for doing this for this man.
Bless you for helping this man! I am a professional housekeeper, and have tackled cleaning jobs like this and it is so satisfying to see the results for the residents, the joy on their faces after
isnt it a great feeling after? I did it when I was out of work and also just for xtra money, I got referrals because of the deep cleaning. Takes time but it is like therapy, used to be anyway .
I love this. Thank you so much for helping this old man. I'm getting older, and finding it hard to keep things as clean as I like. I am low income and can't afford to hire a cleaner, so I just do the best I can 10 minutes at a time. You're an angel, and thank you helper too.
This was such a kind thing you did. Losing your mate is such a devastating thing that sometimes you just don't know what to do or how. Your normal has changed in every way. He is fortunate to have you in his life❤
This is a great video and help for someone who is facing years worth of grime. I was an in home caregiver to several clients and in no way, shape or form was it my job to clean those messes but I did anyway to make a difference in how they had to live . I figured I was there anyway for a certain time span that I would make the most of it and it made time pass fast anyway so I would find myself doing jobs like this over and over. Thanks for being a sweetheart to your family member. You'd be surprised how many families don't give a thought to help a love one. You're an angel
I did the same thing when I was in home health! Sometimes, they'd specifically ask that I not clean, which was frustrating in the quiet time, but many of my people appreciated the tidying.
and YOU are an ANGEL as well Kassi Lynn! I can appreciate ANYONE who helps the unable. Heck, my own family didn't even help me while I cared for OUR own Grandmother! If no one has told you guys today... I LOVE YA, AND APPRECIATE YA TOO! THANK YOU ! on behalf of those that don't! 👍😘
I love that you took it upon yourself to clean other areas that sorely needed it, for the sake of your clients and their environments. Having compassion takes many forms. I don't do this as often as I'm prompted to, but I have at times thought about what I could do for someone that would just delight them, lift their spirits..totally unexpected. And not expect or wait for a response from them. You have a great opportunity with what you do - Thanks for sharing!
I've done the same but unfortunately family members would come visit and remark how clean everything is then start to badmouth the other caregivers for not cleaning. They were rude and referred to the other caregivers as lazy. Alert: Caregivers are normally paid to care for your loved one not scrub down the home.
I tell my daughter to just block off 20-30 minutes of time and tackle one corner, or one counter. It works! If you look at the whole room, or whole house, it’s overwhelming. Small steps at a time.
I do a weekly housecleaning for my niece who is a single mom running a very success small business. Took a long time to convince her that asking for help was NOT a sign of failure. I love housework and find the routine to be calming and satisfying. She hates housework. Now we’ve achieved our balance. I get to love on her once a week via creating a tidy home for her, and she gets to come home after a long day and enjoy guilt-free relaxation.
When washing the kitchen floor, I used the rubber end of the dustpan as a squeege and it really helped. I used scot towels to wipe it up, then used my spin mop to do a final clean. Thank you for your tips to cut through deep grime.
Bless you, sweet angel. I teared up thinking this could be anyone's grandfather, but he's OUR elder, and we are here to help ease their suffering, not make it worse. I thank you so much for helping this man. Being kind is the greatest gift and it doesn't cost much. Just cleaning supplies and love. I love you for this. ❤
Most people will run, RUN!! away from a mess like that, and then spend a week talking about how bad it was. NOT you, you stayed and clean the heck out of it, you're an Angel.
It was so kind of you to do this for him 💘 I am sure since his wife passed 12 years ago, he has probably struggled. You are bringing more joy in his life than you know ✨️
I have found that easy off oven cleaner works on a multitude of things. I had some really greasy pans that I bought at a yard sale. I sprayed the outsides of them with easy off and put them in plastic bags in the sunshine for about an hour. The grease practically just rinsed off. There was almost no scrubbing.
For your viewers, for the plastic wrap, you could use the plastic sheeting you can get at your local hardware store or big box store. Also you did a very wonderful thing, thank you to you and to all other people who are pay it forward people. It is a wonderful thing to do. ❤️🙏
I love that mop. I recently got one and moved. I used it to wash walls, cabinets and floors. It came with 3 heads and I rotated them, washed them in the machine and left the house completely clean. Got my deposit back!
I really appreciate you helping out your family member especially because I know how difficult it is to clean being a totally blind person. It’s hard for me to take care of my mother and also to keep our home clean so I wish I had more people like you close to me. Thank you. ❤
I'm curious how super hot water and Tide would have done. I've been using it lately to mop, and my husband said they used it when he was in automotive school because it would break up the grease. Your relative is blessed to have you! ❤️
When I worked at Taco Bell years ago they used Tide powder and hot water to mop the floors. It worked really well to get the floors clean and grease free.
I used tide with bleach (powder)and hot water with a bristle brush and handle on my great aunts garage floor and walls because she is sensitive to harsh smells. It worked really well and it smells awesome still.
Yes I think Tide is a better cleaner degreaser than it is a laundry product. Maybe it should stay in the Garage for cleaning.I itch like crazy when ever I’ve used it in my laundry. And so do my boys.
You are an angel to clean for that gentleman. It isn't always easy for older people or people with disabilities to do the cleaning. More people could do things like this to help others in need of assistance. Blessings for your kindness to this gentleman.
Thank you for doing this! I'm disabled and no longer capable of keeping my apartment clean and uncluttered. It's not quite like this, but it's an uphill battle just to maintain some spaces that aren't filthy. I hate it. I need a house cleaner.
Don't worry too much. I've watched a lot of near death situations and those of people getting ready to pass and out of a zillion stories not one of them said I wish I had cleaned more. 😁 Have you come across Abraham-Hicks yet ? Listening to them really helps me sort things out and feel better. Being happy is the secret to life. I also like Louise L Hay.
I think a splatter guard when he cooks would be perfect. Can't take away the pork chops, but he could at least prevent prevent the grease from getting everywhere. Amazing video!
Awesome Job!! blue "shop" towels (often in automotive dept.) are something I highly recommend to keep handy for cleaning :) they are highly absorbent , sturdy, and have minimal shedding of fibers when used on something like windows. One of my favorite inexpensive products. happy cleaning!
With the amount of the gunk, I would have used a rubber squeegee and a dust pan rather than attempting to sop it all up. Similar to how they remove the solvent for removing paint from furniture.
A true labor of love. I did this once for someone, and I know how difficult it is. Thank you for being you, and for doing this for your relative. He is blessed to have you in his life.
So nice of you to help out! This also goes to show that house chores needs to be divided between partners, and not just one doing everything. Being able to do something is one thing, with age and everything, but the sheer knowledge of doing things is important if you end up alone.
Thank you! I was going to say this. This man has his wife cleaning up after him for his whole life, and when she wasn’t there anymore, he couldn’t clean up after himself. And now has another lady coming in to clean up after hi
SPECTACULAR JOB! I have to hand it to you for your "never say give up" attitude. It certainly helped in this kitchen. BRAVA to you and BRAVO to your husband.
Having rented some places that the prior residents must have lost their cleaning deposits. Needless to say many hours of elbow grease was needed . With some new paint and more patience my new space was clean enough for my babies to crawl on. Your gift to this man is a blessing. Knees and hips limit what the elderly can do. My sisters have accepted a similar project after our brother was released from the hospital. Order and cleanliness will speed his healing. Kudos clean team!
Again, not trying to put anyone down. This lady is an angel. Just thought that it was obvious that the cost of cleaning this floor was going the hard way .
Poor, sweet guy! I’m an avid cleaner but even if have to deal with maintenance issues. Today was a dining/living room deep clean, including removing glass from picture frames. Everything was dusty and grimy - it creeps up on you, until one day just dusting doesn’t work. Get this fellow back to baseline and then show him how to do daily basics himself. Lots of love 💕 to go with all the cleaning!

How wonderful! Thank you for being a helper in this world:-) as a realtor for 20 years I can tell you there are people that for some reasons are unable to deal with this type of thing.
I have to say you did a great job. You said he was an old widower, so sad no one is helping. Thank goodness you and your husband stepped up to help. Your an 😇
Everytime I watch one of your videos, I seem to go down the rabbit hole and binge watch more of them. Bless you for taking the time to aid this gentleman in getting his house in order. Sometimes life is hard, and we just need a helping hand.
When we were helping family friend who purchased a foreclosed home, I used undiluted Pine-Sol and Brillo pads on the dining room floor. It was black and caked on so thick! After cleaning the floor we were shocked at how beautiful the floor was! It revealed a stunning original hardwood floor - and we couldn't tell it was a wood floor when we started.
Excellent move. I used to use steel wool, but it tends to shred and leave metal dust. Brillo usually have soap in the. I would just use the pine Sol' or even straight Turpentine with a stainless steel scouring pad to get at that grime. You can always add wax and oil later once the grime is stripped off.
Amazing! What a gift, a loving gift, you gave him! I wish one of these home improvement companies on tv could give him a whole new kitchen, and then, a housekeeping visit once a month. What a wonderful thing you gave him.
It was amazing to see this, partly for your generosity and partly because I know how urgent and widespread this problem is. Some people struggle because they are chronically ill, disabled and/or elderly and many don't know how to clean and maintain a home. Cleaning is looked down on, as if it is something anyone can do. This attitude makes me really annoyed. It can also happen that places get into a bad state and the person gets overwhelmed. Here in the UK, all the agencies that get funds to help people _do not do cleaning_ . If I ever get the money together, I am going to start a home help charity. If someone has a home that has got into a bad state, then get trained people in to do a deep clean. Then carefully show the homeowner _how_ to do each cleaning job. If an elderly or disabled person is not able to do certain jobs, then they could get regular help. There would be so many benefits to this.
This is Janet and I’ve thought about starting a cleaning nonprofit. We have too much right now but I see the need and would like to see what we could do.
@@CleanFreakGermaphobe Hi Janet, how interesting to hear that you too have realised that there is a genuine need here. It is difficult to coordinate ideas because the UK and the US are organised differently. I hope this is not going to impose on your time, but I thought I would share with you a few things that have led me to the conclusion that this is an area where there is an ignored need. To save time, I will sort-of bullet point. * I am much older than you and (embarrassing though this is to admit) I come from a background in England where I learned nothing about cleaning and maintaining a home. Frankly, it didn't occur to anyone that I would ever have to do it for myself. My life didn't exactly pan out that way. * In the old days (30 years plus) hospitals were pristine. The cleaning staff was made up of ladies who learned housekeeping skills from their mothers, who learned from their mothers and so on. The hospitals had almost no diseases from within. Then, partly to save money and partly because the powers-that-be knew nothing of the _skills and knowledge_ necessary to clean properly they got rid of all these women. It was also assumed cleaning was a job any idiot could do (grr). I cannot say, because it might be misconstrued, who they employed to clean hospitals, but with minimal "training" they were employed. There are other reasons, but the hospitals got progressively dirtier. Diseases became rife. I have been in a hospital where there is blood in the sink. I didn't say anything to see how long it would stay there. A week. I was discharged at this point so don't know how much longer it stayed there for. * I am now chronically sick and disabled (this sounds grim, but I have faith and a sense of humour, so happy as a clam!). Thanks largely to TH-cam, I am doing all I can to learn to clean and maintain a home. * Recently, I had a bad health problem, nearly died and ended up in hospital. We have a problem we call, "bed-blocking". This means that the (usually) elderly person cannot go home because there is no "care package" in place. This is a hospital service that usually lasts for 6 weeks and is supposed to ensure the vulnerable person has what they need to get back on their feet. Good idea badly executed. The system (along with all the private ones) don't do what is usually needed. They do have loads of meetings, more meetings and a few more meetings. the girls (loath to call them women) replace efficiency with rudeness. Once at home, my experience was they weren't allowed to get me a pint of milk, pick up medication or make a bed I had thrown up in. Cleaning of any sort was a big no-no. University graduates with a million meetings, a million more "assessments" and a few more meetings, but no one wants to roll up their sleeves and make the bed of a disabled woman. * I have since learned that there is a massive problem. Elderly people having to go into nursing homes because they can't afford to pay someone to do household chores and they cannot manage. Perhaps they can manage some jobs, but they can't manage others. Even companies that are privately run do not help with cleaning. If you look at deep cleaning programmes in the UK, they are framed negatively. The host does everything they can to humiliate the homeowner. The structure of modern life means many people do numerous jobs just to make rent and people no longer live near family. Family that is all too often fractured and dysfunctional. Culturally, family is no longer on the menu so selecting it is not always an option. These are just a few thoughts based on personal experience. The fact that there are currently so many programmes showing homes that are totally out-of-control indicates that this is a problem many people are struggling with. A bout of depression, an illness, a trauma such as being mugged can land someone in a home where the mess and dirt becomes too overwhelming to manage. I have also been mulling with the idea of teaching young people home management along with other life skills. I certainly know that learning how to clean and maintain a home is a skill that will greatly elevate a life - or even help save one. I hope these thoughts will be of interest to you.
@@CleanFreakGermaphobe I know several people who work in social services that come around and clean homes for the disabled or elderly- this is paid for by the state to avoid the cost of a nursing home. From their POV, it's cheaper to keep them housed and have someone visit periodically than institutionalize them. You should look into such programs for your relative.

So I put all the money I could into fixing the kitchen and got ripped off! My son is trying to help me but it’s a slow process. Also in America there’s no cleaning help unless you pay for it yourself. If you don’t have family, I have a son that doesn’t live close and my mother is 90, so I have no help. We had a fire in the kitchen that left greasy black residue on the walls and ceiling. Found Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom did a great job on semigloss paint
Insane results!! People have reasons for not being able to keep up with housework. It is what it is. I watch vids like this bc it's absolutely fascinating to me how stuff can get that dirty AND can actually be cleaned again.
Having said that you are an absolute 👼 on earth for doing this. I hope he appreciated all this work you did and we the viewers benefits because we can see exactly what cleaning products work and what doesn't. Lots of companies say their products work only to be disappointed
I used a degreaser for car tires on the kitchen cabinets after I moved to our current home after watching a TH-cam video. Worked like magic on the greasy cabinets.
You might try checking with the DIY car parts place and ask for tire degreaser. They may have what you want available, just going to ask or checking online. 👍🤞
What a true blessing you are!! I have been in the cleaning business for over 20 years and have never seen a floor like that floor. Great tip! (going to test oven cleaner on hard jobs in the future)
Simple green is amazing stuff too. Natural - non toxic too. Spray it on, let it sit. Then your steam cleaner or mop . The swiffer leaves a ton of residue too. Great for muddy footprint type things, but I prefer my mop & bucket for real cleaning. Great job & ty for helping someone.
I agree and I always notice those swiffer things put out in the garbage, hardly used. The old fashioned mop and bucket is much stronger and every time I use, I just toss the mop head in washer and it's clean. That company did some great marketing. Their commercials make real mops look gross. Good marketing that is just not true !!
I read an article on Simple Green. In case anyone cares, it turns out Simple Green is not ecofriendly at all. They put green in the name so it would seem to be, to sell more product. It might work well, but not "green" as in good for the planet. Of course, Easy Off isn't either. On a floor like that (!!!) I don't know what natural product would do the trick.
You are an Angel! Bless you for giving of yourself to this family Elder. What a gift, showing a family's love and care for your family when they need a hand. ❤️ It was a tough mess but your LOVE made a difference. 👏👏👏
Being a homemaker and carer is a hard job. I can also imagine he probably doesn’t have the physical strength he once had to have done that himself. You are a great family member, and did an excellent job. Thanks for the video.
O cedar mop is the only mop I use for my cleaning customers. I have multiple heads and clean them in the washer on a double wash, then hang dry them. They are amazing as they can be used on most surfaces, walls, ceilings, bath areas as well as floors and floor boards. Love!
This is incredible! You and your husband are so sweet to help your relative like this! ❣️ He was so thankful! I like that you mentioned to use the Swiffer as well. Wonderful job!

Amazing work!!!!!! xo
So you cleaned your neighbor's floors? You're so awesome!💝
What a great job you've done. God Bless you and your family
That was really sweet
Sometimes everyone has hard times and just needs a little help and elbow grease ♡ and cleaner
When my best friend’s mother died, her house was in need of a good cleaning. Sometimes people just can’t clean as well as before.
God bless your heart!!!
Fantastic advice. I winced when I saw the grease go down the drain. The only down side to watching this amazing, wonderful video.
Our plumber totally agrees with you.
I love how you honored the owner. Grace is a gift. You doubled that with cleaning his space.
Thank you🙏

Helping the elderly helps you! In my case such work gets a very depressed person out of bed!
All of those are excellent cleaners for tough jobs.
That was a kind thing to do...you will be blessed ..
So... what would you use to clean a bathtub with a thick coat of minerals, mostly calcium and iron? I hit it with everything I could think of except what said not to use on porcelain. Not sure that I made any progress at all. The surface of most of that tub feels like coarse sandpaper with a couple thin layers of hard enamel painted over it.
Have you ever tried Oil Eater? It works great on grease. You mayhave to look in auto parts store for it.
I was a custodian, too. I remember walking into a seriously filthy student apartment. I thought to myself how do these girls live like this?
Thank you for helping this poor man. As a woman of seventy-four years, with two severely arthritic knees, I find it difficult to be the houseproud woman I was years ago.
Bless you♥️
sorry but that's not an excuse to live in this filth.

It is so easy to judge. If I see someone struggling I jump in and help. Have been there. 🥰😇🎈🤩
I am great full to the people who appreciate cleaners and recognize how hard we work. Cleaning is not easy. Thank you. I love helping people

Do yourself a favor, folks. One crucial cleaner she did not test is vinegar. The only cleaning products I have in my house are vinegar, ammonia and I occasionally will resort to bleach. That works if they're willing to accept help. When they tell you no and demand that you leave, then things get more complicated.

Suggestion: use a tarp when you need to cover a large area, instead of the multiple pieces of Saran Wrap. Also, borax and hot water works well to bring back the original color of vinyl flooring (after getting the grease up), in my experience.
My first thought was a tarp as well. However I think using trash bags would give the control you need plus the coverage.
@@marshakott1574 You get rolls of real wide, thin plastic mesnt for covering floors when painting etc. It’s cheap too. I think I paid the equivalent of $2.99 the last time I bought a roll.
You are bringing more joy in his life than you know ✨️
Loving gift! Thanks for this video I have a floor similar (black) and I am 76 years old and unable to scrub. So helpful!
I know you did this video nearly a year ago, but it's never to late to compliment you on an amazing job!
Or a dollar store shower curtain to cover more area cheaply
@@lisadaws6191 ooohh, that's better than my trick of using cut open trash bags. Too bad I don't have anything to use it on!
Why use plastic sheeting?
@@nancymelloh4222 to hold the cleaner on the floor to keep it working instead of evaporating. It works longer that way.
I love how understanding and sweet you are to people who have dirtier homes. It’s what makes watching so nice. You genuinely care with judgement free.
Our world desperately needs more people like you 😘, keep on doing what your doing & never ever change. You're a true blessing ❤️
I love that mop. I recently got one and moved. I used it to wash walls, cabinets and floors. It came with 3 heads and I rotated them, washed them in the machine and left the house completely clean. Got my deposit back!
Absolutely amazing transformation. This is how we should take care of our elderly. Huge job well done.
I really appreciate you helping out your family member especially because I know how difficult it is to clean being a totally blind person. It’s hard for me to take care of my mother and also to keep our home clean so I wish I had more people like you close to me. Thank you. ❤
Thank you so much!
What kind of floors are you using that on?? Does it leave a film on it afterwards?
@@violetcurry540 I use it on vinyl and tile. It does not leave a film when I use a mop. ☺️
Have you come across Abraham-Hicks yet ? Listening to them really helps me sort things out and feel better. Being happy is the secret to life. I also like Louise L Hay.
Bless you for putting in the love and hard work to help this person. So many people just need help, not criticism.
I think a splatter guard when he cooks would be perfect. Can't take away the pork chops, but he could at least prevent prevent the grease from getting everywhere. Amazing video!
Maybe an air fryer
@@kathymac21 That is what he needs!
What a blessing you are for your family member. I’m sure his wife is so thankful you are helping him!
Nice tip. Thank you so much
Unlike kitchen paper towels, they can be wrung out and reused.
I would have found some ratty old towels so soak it all up. I’m sure that was really tiresome, going back and forth to the sink with the sponge.
Finally someone brings this up!
Delegated but not divided hopefully, because people tend to choose the easier one then, thus another issue
Thank you! I was going to say this. This man has his wife cleaning up after him for his whole life, and when she wasn’t there anymore, he couldn’t clean up after himself. And now has another lady coming in to clean up after hi
She said he was a relative. Why did she and the family neglect him for 12 years and allow this to happen??? This is elder abuse.
@@melissasoliz9894 Exactly. She's signed up to be his new cleaning woman I guess.
I love that you helped someone in need. His floor looks awesome.
To see the reaction on someone’s face who is so appreciative and in need of just someone to help is worth it all!
I love seeing someone I help react to a job done that they felt was impossible ❤️
Bless your heart, for taking care of a loved one, and taking on such a horrendous project!
SPECTACULAR JOB! I have to hand it to you for your "never say give up" attitude. It certainly helped in this kitchen. BRAVA to you and BRAVO to your husband.
This video is so satisfying to see before and after as well as helping a family member have a clean and fresh kitchen again! ❤
Thank you so much 💜
Again, not trying to put anyone down.
To see all the products you use and the easy off did the best. The floor looks amazing, and too hear the owner reaction is just beautiful.
His reaction made it all worth it💜💜💜
I wish their were more people in the world like you!!
Me too
There*
Amen to that!!! The world would be a better place if more people were like this. We all need help with something in our lifetime.
I’m a new subscriber and I’m so happy to have found this lovely and kind lady.❤🙏🏻💖
How precious is he! And what a blessing you were! 🙏🏻♥️
Next time try using a drill brush cleaning attachment? It might help to just have that extra vigorous scrubbing. What a labour of love! That was epic.
Determination and the courage to tackle the project. Excellent job! ❤️
Amazing! What a gift, a loving gift, you gave him! I wish one of these home improvement companies on tv could give him a whole new kitchen, and then, a housekeeping visit once a month. What a wonderful thing you gave him.
Absolutely amazing! And you are beyond kind for helping him and having no judgment. Thank you for helping him! 🙌
@@sisterkerry I pray you see this. I’m in So California and I’m disabled too. I used to be a clean freak but for my illness, some serious dental issues, two car accidents and my 90 year old mother getting sick has prevented me from keep my home up while getting the kitchen redone…literally the cabinets were coming off the walls!!!
My friends have all moved out of the state and I regret that I couldn’t move too. The situation here is dire and it’s overwhelming just seeing what happens to the homeless and the disabled.
All I can do is pray and do what I can.
Please know you’re not alone. I will keep you in my thoughts and I hope we both will pull though and be able to help others since we both know what really needs to be done.💖👍🙏🏻
@@christhomas4505 Do you mind me asking which country provides this service? I live in the UK and although pretty noises are made, no such provision exists. I would be very interested to know more about the country who does this.
What a kind thing you did to clean the floor. A cleaning Angel.
Wow! The floor looks so pretty! It's sad he was unable to see it for so many years until now thanks to you!
I'm "floored" at the job you did. What an improvement for him. 🥰🥰🥰
I used a degreaser for car tires on the kitchen cabinets after I moved to our current home after watching a TH-cam video. Worked like magic on the greasy cabinets.
What’s the name of the product u used?
What was that product you used please?
Rita, I linked the TH-cam video where I learned about this degreaser.

What a true blessing you are!! I have been in the cleaning business for over 20 years and have never seen a floor like that floor. Great tip! (going to test oven cleaner on hard jobs in the future)
I would totally watch an entire series of you deep cleaning this house
Vent hood next. lol I know she was exhausted though.
Same like what product are good I don't know.
I second this!!!
Use goo gone to loosen then kitchen liq.soap to get it off and lots of hot watera d use old towels!
Simple Green does an amazing job on headstones at the graveyard.🌺
I agree and I always notice those swiffer things put out in the garbage, hardly used. The old fashioned mop and bucket is much stronger and every time I use, I just toss the mop head in washer and it's clean. That company did some great marketing. Their commercials make real mops look gross. Good marketing that is just not true !!
Good suggestion, if she faces this again she should try Simple Green.
Blessing to her for helping her elder👍💕✝️
Love!
