Oh my gosh this is so crazy! I use the exact same slide out basket shelves from IKEA for my soaps!! They are seriously the best and when I found them I was over the moon excited to find something so convenient and perfect for curing! One of the best purchases I’ve made, highly recommend!
Awesome video!!! I was looking planning on going to IKEA this weekend to look at storage options. Thank you, both of you, for always being so kind and willing to share your experiences with everyone!
Hey Jerika! Fellow soaper here. Not sure how close you are to a lumber yard or “big box” like Lowe’s or Home Depot, but you should be able to to find an inexpensive board, probably pine, that’ll be 1/2-3/4 inch deep by 2 inch tall by 24 inch wide. Attach the board to the studs in the wall and the cabinets to the board.
That's the system that I need but the frame is not available here in Houston, so I bought a Kallax it was hard, the wood pegs didn't allow end panels to come together so we removed them and get some long nails. Now I know what to expect once the frames come in, they're going into my son's closet. I put together a Malm for my daughter & didn't have any issues.
I just recently found your channel and subscribed. Who ever knew that Soap can be that Absolutely Beautiful, they are lovely. Wishing you so much success in your business.
I think don’t attach to the wall because the draws will then if like mine (looks similar different manufacturer) hit the wall and mark it. I heard it hit after you pulled a draw out. I wonder if that rubber/plastic (perforated type) draw shelf liner to line draws would work. Love those big skirting boards.
I will use a piece of strapping. Screw the strapping to the wall, and if you have a snap tool, put a snap on the strap, loop it around a bar and snap. That probably makes no sense, lol But it works!
Great storage set up for curing! Question: when your soaps are done curing, how and where do you store them then? Or do you just leave them in this curing station? Thanks!
I’m new to soap making and I have been trying to find a solution for storage and curing. This is perfect. Thank you for sharing all your tips and tricks, I’ve learned a lot.
You can also use the grey piece for a later time when it may not stay leveled. I have used it to help help the back of the shelf after opening and closing the baskets over time.
have you seen the curing rocks on willows way they’re plastic earring racks the bottom one has wheels on it that lock and you can stack them up to 30 racks high they have vented slats on the bottom so your soaps dry evenly and you don’t have to rotate them and don’t take up a lot of space.
By the way Ikea wont include any text in their instructions, so those could fit every country (In EU you have to provide instructions to every each in their language and there are 27 different countries in EU with their multiple languages.) So they are saving money , but on the other hand Ikea support is super nice (at least in my country) and you can always call them if feeling puzzled. Those drawers are awesome, I would also add wooden board or mdf on top to have more storage or workable surface.
Hi Jerika! This system is gorgeous, but living in a small apartment, I wouldn't have the space for it. Do you know if it's OK to let soap cure outside, like on my deck? I am just starting my soap journey and don't want to ruin it with poor temperature mistakes ! For context I live in Vancouver BC and the weather is typically quite mild but I'm just not sure how to store them outside without ruining them ... 😩 any advice would be wonderful! Love your videos !
Nice! Those screw in feet are also good for leveling. Also...if you need to bolt onto the wall, you could always cut pieces of wood and paint them white and bolt thru them into the wall. Just a thought! Cheers!
Thank you for sharing this process! IKEA has inexpensive and wonderful storage and organizing goodies! I’ve got a big IKEA shelf I use for curing but I’ve been looking for some thing tall and narrower with shelves I can use for curing instead. That way I can use my old one restoring storing everything else❤️
Jerika, wow you got a spare bedroom. I wish we did. Ours still have a teenager in them! He'll be there forever. However, I'm surprised you haven't used it sooner as product storage. I've been doodling with the thought of building a soap shed for Jill and I. I'm starting to help her more and we are on top of each other literally, lol! I've always cleaned and packaged, but I am now learning bit by bit. Actually at the moment I'm roofing our house after a huge snow/ice storm destroyed it. So, I'm at the end, it took 4 days! After that's done I can start planning. If you think there is anything essential the shed needs what is it? What would you insist be included? I'm asking that of all our maker friends! Wayne Gross
Thanks for the videos, I really enjoy them and will be using them to convince my husband how it’s a good idea to make/sell soaps 😉. IKEA has really gotten slammed the last few years because a lot of their products have tipped over and children climbing have gotten hurt or killed. They now recommend fastening things like these to walls to prevent this from happening and incl pieces to do so to prevent accidents and lawsuits
I think everyone saw on your Instagram about the ikea wire baskets, because I went to IKEA and they were sold out. Lol. I did find something else in the kid's section for my curing soaps.

Oh! I’ve been using the previous IKEA version of those racks for so long! My version has a looser metal basket weave & I’ve been eyeing up those for a bit now! It’s awesome to see them in action!
This was on my mind from the other day when I asked about curing. This is great way and lovely idea to stay organised. You guys are fantastic. Wishing you all the best

I love the idea ,but hate putting together anything from IKEA, usually my daughter is in charge, lol, question, do you like that better than the bakery racks many soap makers use? Thank you
You could probably use L brackets if you are really concerned with it falling over. They would stick out far enough to attach. (We did this with bookshelves in a 100 year old house).
I have a billy bookcase for storing my fragrance oils and micas! You can buy extra shelves and the shelves are adjustable so you can really customize the shelves for what you need. I also have a Kallax system with drawers for my candle supplies. I freakin love Ikea! 😆

I have no idea what they do but soap ‘cures’ faster the lower the humidity. It is after all simply a process of evaporating excess water from the bars.

I’d start with drying them in a room with a humidifier running. Ash during cure may mean a humid room causing soap to sweat. As the sweat evaporated, it can leave ash. Try to keep your curing space as dry as possible and away from sunlight.
