It is very hard to get unbias and true picture of China if you live in the West. 90% of information about China from the west are lies or distorted. Seeing is believing. To know China you need to go to China for yourselves.
Just returned from a two week trip to China. As a 70 year old man with an enlarged prostate, I have no trouble finding restrooms just by asking around, as I am fluent in Chinese. 3 of the 6 hotels I had booked have laundry room with dryers and washers accommodation for free. All you have to do is ASK before you book your hotel. My budget is around USD40 to USD50 per room per night.
@@liongjiahwong5478there’s basically no public restrooms in this part of America where I live. People normally go to stores or shops to use their restrooms

Compared to European cities, I think there are many more toilets in Chinese cities, and they are all FREE! You can find them in Shopping malls, KFCs, McDonald's, and other restaurants, but not all for Starbucks. In old streets area, they are hidden in the back or at the corner. For those new and broad streets, you can easily find the indicators of public toilets. The best way is to ask a local guy, Ce Suo (厕所), or WC (even if he/she can not understand English). Good luck!

The problem with this statement is that it is to do with a political concern. Nobody thinks that Chinese culture or the ordinary Chinese people living their lives are the enemy. And this video doesn't address anything political, so saying something like this as an afterthought is senseless.
I would say China has more accessible public toilets than the UK, back to home UK, you have to coin in to pay for the toilets in train station and parks…
in major chinese cities, public toilets are actually more accessible than in the US where i live. when i was living in shanghai and xi'an , i never had any problem finding toilets, large public parks, shopping malls and tourist attractions all have nice toilets.
When I'm looking for public toilets in China, I just open Baidu Maps and search for "toilet" and I'll quickly find all nearby public toilets. Usually the nearest toilet is within 1 km.
It could just be language barrier that you have toilet issues, was there for 5 weeks and we never had any issues with finding free clean and tidy toilets. In the big cities, like Shanghai, Hangzhou and Shenzhen the toilets are impressively clean, accessible and well equipped that I would say overall is equal or better than Japan. Those who does not believe me, just go there and see it yourself.

People from SE Asia are more familiar with China, so we do visit China more often, prob not as much as we do within SE Asian countries, Japan or S Korea. Also it helps that China is closer in proximity to SE Asia than it's to Europe. Another thing is most countries have to apply visa before visiting China, with the exception of some countries like Singapore, Brunei, Malaysia, Thailand where there's mutual 30-day visa waiver for most. The recent ones with 5 European countries aren't perm, just valid for a year up to end 2024. The other thing is language although with an app translator, it isn;t much of an issue. Another thing with China is you need to provide fixed details of everything like how many days you plan to stay at each stop, the hotel location that you've booked etc if you are doing a few stops in different provinces even before you enter China, so that's a big hassle, unlike say going to Europe, where for eg. I just need to have a return ticket to show, anything in between is flexible and can plan along the way. The other thing why China is less visited is how esp western media have portrayed China to be an unfriendly and dangerous country to visit. The ignorant ones will of course buy the narrative, being none the wiser. Lastly, I surmise that China , compared with other countries, doesn't really promote herself in other countries with advertisements. Prob even without international tourists, their domestic tourism alone is enough to sustain the tourism industry.
@ymhktravel totally agreed with the last statement that China has a huge domestic tourists to cover up their own tourism industry. I visited China last October and now planning for another trip on next May for more experiences ❤🇨🇳

This is hands down one of the best vlog Q&A I've seen. You guys are candid and honest, and I truly appreciate you sharing your opinion and impressions with everyone. A small tip for the laundry problem that may (or may not) help: if you happen to be near a college or university, try go in and ask the students, often time there are private-run laundry services on or near the campus. Those services charge by load and is usually not too expensive as they are catering towards students. PS: watching your vlogs has helped me tremendously with understanding Scottish accent. Yay~~~

For toilets, try find a restaurant or a big shopping mall. For laundries, book a night in hotels such as Ji Hotel, they offer free washer and dryer for guests.
The laundromats in China are usually for expensive items like your mink coat or silk skirts, which are not suitable for your home washing machine to wash. So backpackers from overseas must pay attention to laundry facilities when booking a hotel. Otherwise you have to hand wash your clothes or pay the same amount of money to wash a cotton Tshirt as the price of a cashmere coat.

@@fenggao3171I'd say there are more rules in China stopping people from filming. If anything happened in China that made some people uncomfortable, they can get the police to arrest them using the iffy "picking quarrels and provoking troubles" law. You also can't legally interview anyone without a prior media request to the police. So you also see people stopped by the police when they ask locals questions when they are spotted.
Truer words have never been spoken - well said! I have really enjoyed your China series, thank you so much for taking us on this amazing journey with you both!
It depends on which city you traveled to in China. The more rural the town is the more likely it is harder to find toilet. I think I saw a blog someone mentioned every 10 meter you can find a public toilet in Shanghai. And I think there is like a google map called Amap in China that show you where all the public toilets are. And toilets in China are free. You don't need to bring coins or pay.
I'm from UK and what you said "When something is broken in UK it says broken" this is so true or when doing maintenance on motorway it literally take years to fix.
It is nearly impossible that you could not find toilet, even small food shops would have one, especially you guys were travelling through big cities. Don’t be afraid to ask someone near.
Love your videos so much! If you're still exploring China this February, be prepared for the upcoming Chinese New Year. The train stations are going to be extremely crowded from now on as millions are traveling home (and then back to the cities for work after the new year). It could be impossible to book train tickets. Most businesses, services, restaurants and shops will be closed for the first few days of the new year, so expect empty streets and limited food options. However it will definitely be a unique experience! Have fun:)
love your positivity and appreciation for life and the world. My teenage children should also learn the same. Both of you are real good role models. Keep it up and enjoy the world
I travelled twice to China and found doing laundry a problem too. But it was only in my last recent trip that i discovered that some hotels did have washing machine and dryer in which the tenant can use them for free. Check with the hotel reception if they have that facility.

In China, many people are not used to washing clothes outside and may feel like they have "unfamiliar contact". Many laundry shops have closed down in the past 10 years, so in recent years, there have been fewer and fewer laundry shops in China.China is a country with a history of five thousand years. Throughout thousands of years, humanity has been plagued by countless illnesses and infectious diseases, which proves the cultural heritage of China. In terms of preventing infection, Chinese people have genetic memory and attach great importance to privacy in public health. This is also the reason why public toilets in China are mostly squatting toilets. Chinese people only use toilets in their main toilets, The reason why guests still use squatting toilets in the bathroom.
This is why China has always insisted on installing squatting toilets in public toilets. In the subconscious of the Chinese people, anything that a stranger's skin touches is unsanitary.
Toilet issue is something I didn’t expect. Aren't they everywhere on the street? Just follow the road signs. Or people can use the restrooms in the malls or hotels. One thing different than Europe is. Almost all toilets in China are free.
Love young people like yourselves that actually travel with an open mind and actually see other countries as they are and not listen to the awful lies that's so rampant these days. Subbed !
There are usually public toilets in malls so if you know you’re gonna go. Slip into the nearest mall and go. And usually 4/5 star hotels don’t mind if you go to the toilets even if you aren’t a guest there. I use this trick in almost every country I travel to.
Next time you’re in China, I recommend going to the south. My family is from Foshan and it has a big dragon boat culture. They have a really famous dragon boat drifting race every year during the Dragon Boat festival that’s amazing! Yunan is absolutely beautiful too!

Keep on being positive and have a great trip in china and other countries. The world needs more ppl like you.
Just came back 2 months ago. Toilets are aplenty in China. Most metro stations have toilets as well. Unlike in UK, it is so difficult to find a toilet except for the pubs and fast food chains and some are even locked.

Trust me I face these issues often as I really struggle to get into the aquatting position 🤣🤣🤣🤣My hack is to always find a shopping mall, there's almost always nice toilets in malls. As for laundry, next time try to ask the hotel staff you stay to search one nearby for you. If talking about £10 , its not hard to find one within 15-30min by foot. Locals are easily by Baidu map search. Toilets would be a bit hard to find, malls, food chain shops like KFC or hotels are mostly likely have it.
I've been living in China for the last 4 years. Amazing place to live in and experience! If you guys want to move here for a short period of time (ie 1 year) you can check for English teaching jobs. Almost only requirement is being English native speaker, other than that the bar is set pretty low. Easy job and well paid (around 400-500 RMB/hour net in your pockets)

Cashless payment in China now: you don’t even need to carry out your phone with showing QR code, there are face scanner and hand print scanner, all you need is just to scan your face or hand, it automatically identifies you then charges you, more quick and easy
@@theasianjaywalker4455 are you talking about InterAc? That’s just a payment format. It is a truly cashless society when even panhandling not needing to take cash, then you are truly there.

Restrooms are actually easy to find, it's just that you might not be familiar with how to search for them. Perhaps you can create a video showing how you look for restrooms, so we can see why you can't find them. The weather these days isn't very comfortable, either cold or damp. I hope you can still have a good time
@Alan & Shannon there are plenty of public toilets in China, you just have to ask for them, people will point you the way. most mall will have one or two per floor, most park and subway stations will have at least one. Just don't be shy and ask a stranger for help.😁😁That is what I do travelling abroad. If you still can't find one just go to a medium size resteraurant they always have toilets, just ask nicely and people would let you use their toilet for free, and you don't have to eat there afterwards.(maybe except for HK)
I have to strongly disagree with one thing: I've travelled China a fair bit and my experience was that public toilets are EVERYWHERE in China, especially compared to the UK where I too live. Restaurants may not have them as you say, but there's always one nearby in a shopping centre (and you're never far from a shopping centre in China) or even off the street. China isn't alone in not all restaurants having toilets either, I found the same to be true in Paris for instance.
But I will add that I'm glad you enjoyed China. I tell so many people that they should travel to China because, whatever their expectations are as to what it'll be like, it'll be completely different, and it'll be far better.
That's the spirit. Highly recommend Lijiang and Shangri -la.Don't forger to try "Yi Liang Roast Duck",all kinds of rice noodles 🍜and hot spring water park in Kunming area .
One reason why people first come to china could not find toilets, in some cities the toilets were built like restaurants... so sometimes you see some fancy standalone buildings aside the road you never think they are actually public toilets which are often free or extramely affordable (0.2 pounds for a ticket maybe with a packed toilet papers included)
I am surprised that finding a toilet has become an issue. I would recommend next time asking some locals because I remember that China has so many public toilets on the streets. Also in shopping malls, there are always a lot of toilets. Hope you guys can find toilets easily next time!!
I appreciate your free-spirited travel style, and I’m delighted to see you in China, sharing your observations and experiences. When traveling in China, you can choose Hanting Hotel.
中国人去欧洲办理签证也需要出示每天的行程,详细到坐哪一个巴士到哪一个景点。所以这很公平。

The laundromats in China are usually for expensive items like your mink coat or silk skirts, which are not suitable for your home washing machine to wash.
So backpackers from overseas must pay attention to laundry facilities when booking a hotel. Otherwise you have to hand wash your clothes or pay the same amount of money to wash a cotton Tshirt as the price of a cashmere coat.

Hi guys, the toilet issue isn't so bad really, there are often toilets in the local community, but in smaller cities you'll struggle to find a sitting toilet and have to make do with a squat toilet. Trust me I face these issues often as I really struggle to get into the aquatting position 🤣🤣🤣🤣My hack is to always find a shopping mall, there's almost always nice toilets in malls. Cameras are everywhere in most big cities they are there for your protection and sometimes traffic managment.
哈哈哈😂但是这个是中国的传统,不过医学上来说蹲着上厕所更有利于身体健康😂😂
As far as I know, that so called "Chinese tourst" lives in UK and already has got her UK citizenship.

As for bad behaviour of british people in China, I really don't wanna bring it up in the comment area of such a lovely young couple.
Have you ever been to the Great British Museum? There's a whole colletion of priceless ancient chinese artworks in there which was looted by British troopers 120 years ago. It's suc a atrocty yet the British government refused to send them back.
Is that equivalent enough to the dismeanor which was done by a Chinese British citizen?@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt
Chiina has more accessible public toilets?!

@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt Those Chinese tourists have no ground to ask the pianist to stop filming. Ironically, there is no such law to stop people filming in public place at China. They were totally inappropriate. To answer your question, it is funny there were drunk British tourists got arrested in China due to misdemeanor. You didn't hear it because it was not widely reported in western media. And Chinese doesn't believe all British behavior like those guys. No need to stir it up. However, some western media are keen to report the negative incidents of China and exaggerate the effo
Thanks a lot of your videos. Make me homesick.
Wow your words at the end is so true. Love the content!
That is the first time hearing of lack of toilets. Other travellers said the opposite and there are apps that show all locations.
BTW, if you are going to Shenzhen, don't miss out these great new metro stations. One can direct to go beach.

@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt That's weird, I already replied to you few days ago. OK, I can do it again. As far as I know. She's immigrant to England now. To be fair, you should listen to two sides of stories. Here is the only interview she did with UK student. I will just write his account name in case TH-cam delete the link. @livinlavidaluke. Here is another video who also did this subject. @bencoleman121.
@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt I plan to visit China this year so I followed the TH-camrs who did China videos. Here are some also from UK. I saw some of them do connect to each other & also made the video together. Hope they can give you some tips on travel in China.

Love your video, and your characters, too. Wish you two good luck everyday❤❤❤
Lovely young couple, appreciate your honest sharing...👍👍👍
Thank you 😊
According to my own experience, toilet is definitely no more an issue in China, you can actually find relatively clean and acceptable toilets everywhere...

@@theasianjaywalker4455 He prob use a wrong word "cashless". Obviously he meant even mobile payment (which is cashless) now is kinda in the past. You don't even need to bring mobile with you, just your face or your palm. I guess they might to register that first into the national system for it to work. So tourists may still have to rely on cash or mobile payment.
@@theasianjaywalker4455using only credit card and debit card is also called cashless. 😂

I like the mode of your travelling! It is the best way to know the area and learn the way of their lives! You belong to a very special group of travelling, most people would only spend a few days here and there, therefore doing the laundry is not a big issue. Anyway, I enjoy this vlog and hope you guys have a wonderful experience in China.
Love your videos. And I admire your adventurous spirit.
Although you are traveling on budget, I totally understand, you should at least treat yourself with one fancy meal in China. Coz the culinary arts is a very important part of Chinese culture. You really should experience it, what is the real ethnic Chinese food.
@@theasianjaywalker4455 don’t be nervous men, you don’t need to order anything scary or weird. Just the normal stuff, like chicken, duck, beef, pork, or even the vegetables. It’s not only the taste, but also the art of cooking, presentation, and serving. You will understand what I am saying when you experience it. Best wishes!
@@theasianjaywalker4455 I didn’t say you have to like it, it’s just a part of the experience. You can’t say for others, they might very well like it. We don’t know for sure unless they try it. Could be wonderful experience.

@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt for my personal opinion, she is a Chinese Karen. Just like any other Karen. You know these people exist.

honestly, I like ur way of travel a lot more than the rest. you guys are showing us what is really happening locally.
Restrooms are actually easy to find, it's just that you might not be familiar with how to search for them. Perhaps you can create a video showing how you look for restrooms, so we can see why you can't find them. The weather these days isn't very comfortable, either cold or damp. I hope you can still have a good time
How can you not love this couple!
You can find any restaurant to ask for use their toilet,it’s for free and they may show your the way if you can’t find a public one
@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vtgo Russia.
That's the spirit. Highly recommend Lijiang and Shangri -la.Don't forger to try "Yi Liang Roast Duck",all kinds of rice noodles 🍜and hot spring water park in Kunming area .
Been so enjoyed watching your China adventure videos! Good luck lads and welcome to come back again! 🇨🇳🏴❤
I never expected I began to love scotish accent. so cute.
Enjoy your self is the most important and wonderful thing.❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
I am surprised that finding a toilet has become an issue. I would recommend next time asking some locals because I remember that China has so many public toilets on the streets. Also in shopping malls, there are always a lot of toilets. Hope you guys can find toilets easily next time!!
As your mum - pride doesnt sum up my feeling of that video BUT your last statement was amazing! Im sooooo proud of both of you xx
well said concluding remark
I appreciate your free-spirited travel style, and I’m delighted to see you in China, sharing your observations and experiences. When traveling in China, you can choose Hanting Hotel. It is present in almost all medium and large cities across China. In different cities, its prices typically range from 150 RMB to 400 RMB, making it an affordable and comfortable choice. What’s particularly friendly about it is that it often provides self-service and free laundry facilities, which you can inquire about at reception

Thank you for sharing. I can tell you are at Shamian Guangzhou, China. I was there few months ago.
Hi Alan and Shannon, actually the public toilet can be found everywhere in most city, but the public toilet may be not have a very good label. But we are changing. And about the laundry store, the Chinese are not used to laundry outside, but you can find the hotel with the laundry room easily.
🤣🤣 most of KFC or McDonald have toilet, and you also can find any mall close to you (no matter small one or big) , you will find toilet too.
and you can run into any restaurant and ask for using the toilet. they will help either tell you the nearest one.

This is a really nice Q&A session. :)
Hard to find toilets in China??
I watched other videos, they said toilets are everywhere. Obviously something is not correct ?
他会不会说的是坐便的厕所。哈哈😁
I am so jealous, as I really want to travel extensively in China like what you are doing!
You are young budget travellers. Not luxury travellers. Nothing wrong with that.
China needs more tourists on the budget scale I think as these people represent the more normal people of their respective countries...the natural lower classes.
@SLAVAUKRAINI-cb5vt This is a peaceful apolitical channel. Your question is not relevant here.
You can use the navigation software on your phone to find public toilets. All shopping malls, plazas and parks have public toiletsᵔᴥᵔ
