    Well in mate, I love a side by side comparison. I think you are right the brighter ones just go a bit earlier. I suppose the benefit on that type of venue is that on a take on the bright one you can be confident you still have bait out there and gauge your feed accordingly on the re cast.

      Yeah absolutely mate it's interesting and I definitely think that as long as the bait isn't too buoyant it can get you quicker bites. 👌

    Each presentation has it's uses in different situations and will out fish each other depending on it's suitability to the situation

      Yeah definitely agree every lake is different etc I do think on pressured waters a more natural looking bait is better though 👌

    Loving the video Simon especially when it’s on home turf and my local water I’ve only fished it three times so still trying to figure the best approach however all the fish I’ve had so far have fallen to tipped baits but definitely going to try a plain one with a light scattering of match the hatch boiles over the top as sometimes i feel I’ve put to much bait out and instinctively tip the baits just so it stands out as a self confidence boost I think aha
    Keeps the vids coming and massive congrats with trakker great to see a fellow islander doing so well in the industry

      Ah cheers mate good to hear from a fellow Island Angler. Yeah you don't need loads of bait down there the fish are swimming round constantly and will find your spot eventually. I think too much bait just takes them longer to find the hookbaits 😉

    Homemade boilie tipped with 1/2 a pink pop up ( homemade ) , thin paste wrap from boilie mix , starts off as a bottom bait and slowly ends up critically balanced but not wafting about .

    Old school here I never tip and only use pop ups or even wafers on lakes with lots of crud on the bottom

      @@dutchdude123 Depends on how deep etc - most of the lakes I fish are very silty so its either a mesh bag or solid bag so it lays on top of the silt and to be fair carp love sticking there snouts in the silt to filter things - I prefer to in very silty lakes find a area where its newer cleaner not that black stinky stuff and not worry about how deep it is and just go with a lighter lead

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing

      Bottom baits in a solid bag is unusual but I bet it works well

  • @gingfpv
    @gingfpv 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    My proffered method is a bottom bait but different colours and flavours then the freebies.
    Or a match the hatch home made bottom bait but the addition of a tiny bit of cork dust so its not a wafter just removes the weight of the hook with out a hook the hook bait will still sink but slower then a bottom bait.
    Also i do like to use a pop up as a bottom bait with a hole drilled out and ssg shot stuffed inside on the hair as a stand out high attraction bottom bait

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've not tried over weighted pop ups before but I like the sound of that that's interesting 😉

    I normally just use bottom baits, but have played with tipped as well. Could do the same test with different colours to see if that makes any difference.

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's a good suggestion mate I think it would be interesting to fish 3 on a spot for a whole session and see which colour wins 👌

    @rosswilson4098 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Tested this for years nearly always a tipped baits catchs more but I'm the first person to admit I don't do its as often anymore opting for straight wafters I need to go back to tipping bottom bait with a bit of popup or buoyant corn

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's interesting mate thanks for your input. I've usually done better tipping baits rather than straight wafters. Perhaps they're too buoyant and move about too much when fish are feeding in the swim. Lately I've been using half a Dumbell wafter on top of a bottom bait with really good results 😉

    I've never used a tipped bait, I've always preferred out the bag or if im fishing mesh bag's i use a matching wafter, i only ever use popups deep into winter and early spring, interestingly enough i fished a difficult circuit water that rarely did night bites, i had 2 fish at night in 3 seasons, both on white northern special popups, there might be something in that 🤔

    Do you think it makes a difference if its a genuine hungry feeding carp or a inquisitive investigating carp?

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I definitely think at some times when they're hungry they throw caution to the wind and become more catcheable but most of the time especially on pressured lakes especially with clear water they can be suspicious of baits that are wafting around. It's all about reading the situation and adapting to what you're faced with I guess 👌

    Hi Simon, I’m considering just fishing braided rigs for a while. Gotten a bit sick of rig tying with coated and combi setups. Do you know anyone else who successfully fishes old school straight braid hooklinks still? I’m not concerned about tangles as I always use a small mesh bag, but what do you think the pros and cons might be for this kind of approach. I guess lack of resetting out straight but maybe that’s even a good thing. Just wondering if I’m being totally stupid trying this

    • @SimonDewCarpFishing
      @SimonDewCarpFishing  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi mate, I've fished supple braid rigs before for quite a bit of my angling and whilst I think it can be an edge as the carp are not used to it I also think the potential for tangles is too high. I've wound in in the morning with tangled rigs even using bags and I think it's when fish and bird life are messing around with the rig and as you say it can't reset. If you want to try something different, easy to tie but less prone to tangle I'd probably go down the mono/Flourocarbon route just so there's less chance of it wrapping round itself 👍

    • @MyDaz1979
      @MyDaz1979 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think if you've caught fish over the years whether that be float quiver carp fishing alarms etc you can safely say you can use bait boat. But even a bait boat doesn't guarantee catching.
