What do you do to avoid hookpulls? 🤔

Great video! I'd definitely like to see an entire separate video on rig mechanics, I've been thinking about it a lot recently. You forgot to mention using shrink tube on a wide gape hook instead of a longshank hook so that it has less leverage to twist out. I always do this with the shortest shank, widest gape hook I can find (Nash claws are excellent). This not only makes it harder to get hook pulls but also makes the point of the hook even heavier still because the shank is plastic not metal.

I just back off the drag once in close, I could never back wind smoothly enough to feel confident especially under pressure. Another nice vid mate. I rarely lose fish on hinges, however the other day had a run and lifted into nothingness. The pop up had become skewered on hook. Devastated but lesson learnt

@@SimonDewCarpFishing it didn’t feel beautiful at the time mate 🤠 have you ever had this happen on your amnesia D rig. It was on a choddy with angling iron size 4 v sharp once I’d touched it up. My mistake was not threading it down the micro ring swivel far enough. Tbh I never do and never had this happen. But from now on I’m pushing it right down to the ring.

Love your videos, keep up the good work 👍
I came across your "My new favourite carp fishing rig" video from 6 months ago, I'm curious if you're still using this 6 months on or tweaked/found something better? I've always done well on simple hair rigs with silicone trapping the hair on the bend close to the hook point and using bottom baits straight out of the bag, but have found the hair wrapped around the hook a few times so want something less prone to tangles.
    Thanks

Hi there. I do chop and change rigs a bit depending on where I'm fishing etc but generally I like to use a D rig of some sort to avoid hair tangles. Especially on lakes with lots of silver fish you seem to wind in with tangled hairs quite often even when using foam or Pva bags etc. A D rig never tangles and I've found them super effective 👌

I pretty much always use a inline lead with the swivel pinched so it is free running after the very initial pick up and have for most of my carp fishing years so back to when they first came out - before that it was a swivel bomb with a bead free running (yeah back in the 80's) and even on lakes where the fish have really bad mouth its rare to get a hook pull.
I use sharp but not super sharp hooks as well they I find have more problems as a small dink against a stone and there burred
back in the day it was always a split shot a bit down from the hook now days its tungsten putty to basically pull the hook downwards and like you I vary where the hair leaves the hook depending on bottom, wafter or pop up but again even with bottom baits I use tungsten.
Also re you comments about playing fish - its what i fish for the fight - I use 2 3/4 test curve rods and don't bully the fish unless there heading for something nasty and prefer to wait till there ready to come into the net rather than rush things and like you I do a lot of playing them on the clutch as well. Had a lovely time trying playing a lovely 28lb common at my local lake the last weekend which in total probably took me about 10 mins till it was ready.
I have never understood the reel it in as fast as possible after waiting for a couple of hours I prefer to take my time and enjoy the fight

It's great actually mate. We had loads of rain during this session and it's nice to have somewhere to sit with a mate. I may do a review once it's officially launched. There will also be a product video on the Prologic channel going over the features 👌

@@SimonDewCarpFishing I used a #4 baitholder hook baited with corn and nothing else -- I know use the hair rig weightless with no weight .
