Very sad I didn’t see you this year Dan. Thursday would have been the best time to run around and grab all the fun things you were hoping to snag. Friday was the typical flood of attendees we think about, lol. And the line for this and even Clank Catacombs expansion was pretty intense. I shifted out of Spinnaster’s line against the far wall and ordered it on Barnes and Nobles site (a friend of ours suggested I do this just in case the line got too much for me) while standing in WyrMwood’s GORGEOUS booth of tabletop tables and furniture. Hopefully see you next year brother. ❤
Great review, and I’m glad you mentioned the components that were low quality (the tokens) while keeping it balanced. I’ve seen too many people write this off as a terrible production, when for $25, it just isn’t. The cards are more than adequate. Biggest thing that I have against it is the flub in the rulebook which you covered: the last player in an auction only pays 1 per card they won, which is not how the rules make it sound.
Lines were definitely too long for a retail released game. Plus they had a 10% discount from B&N. With store pick up was able to avoid shipping. So, paid less than the convention price. Game demo was fun and able to pick up the foil version of cards.
10:25 I hope there is a "lot of game in this box" because I just watched a different reviewer complain that the game needs expansions because it is going to get dull and repetitive after three plays. Hmm . . . well, I just ordered it for $28 so getting three plays out of it sounds acceptable, but I hope your statement holds true. I imagine you've played it more than three times? Thanks for the video! Yours convinced me to order it.
Picked it up on Day 2 after the line had died down. At that time, I was about #12 in line & they still had some available, then immediately sat at in an empty seat to get the foils via a demo.
Good review as usual. The cardboard is VERY thin, so be careful when punching it out. I can see me getting some tokens in the near future online to replace them, but in all, fun game! Thanks for the review!
Baseball cards, Magic the Gathering, Mage Knight figures, an actual hockey season…. The game system could be applied to SO many variants where collection is the key that I hope Spinmaster takes advantage of all of the possible avenues. Excellent!
There's already a "CCG Simulator" in Millennium Blades that does what this game does, but better. (Like, set collection is only about 20% of what you do "building your deck" in Millennium Blades). Plus, nothing beats slapping down literal stacks of cash to get that card you want.
An audience for baseball? I would rather watch leaves fall off the tree in fall. Baseball is so boring. Probably why there hardly have been any successful board games on baseball. My friend made a good baseball dice kickstarter game for $10,000 to get funded. It only made it to $6000. His dream of successful kickstarter ended quick. The interest isn’t there. So many other sports now and other types of entertainment that people are focused on now.
The game is good but the line wasnt worth it, primarily because SpinMaster had no idea how to run a line. It jumped back and forth across the hall and around corners in nonsensical fashion and then just disappeared into the crowd. 3 people in our group tried and then decided it just wasnt worth sorting out.
@@CamObscura88 Because you could get it immediately, and without paying shipping at the con. I ended up ordering it online because their line was so stupid, but I paid extra for it and didn't get to play it with my friends during the con
I enjoy this game, but I disagree about the card quality. Are there mass market games with worse quality? Sure. But that doesn't mean this should be acceptable. The cards in Comic Hunters are bad. I have multiple cards cut so far off-center that there is a white strip on the side. Multiple cards had "chipped" edges when it was new in the box. The colors are not vibrant. The cards are not sturdy. I actively dislike sleeving games, but I sleeved this one
Almost every mass market game at $25 has way worse cards than this. They normal bend if you just blow on them. They were way sturdier than standard mass market games. I fit have the issue with the stripe. I’m sure if you contact Spin Master they’ll send you new cards.
Nice preliminary review. I would really like to see this re-themed with board games. 😉
The GenCon lines were not worth it -- it was available at Barnes and Noble for $22 the entire time
Yes but most people didn’t know about that. I only found out when the publisher themselves told me as that’s not typical.

@@JarradShaw ah yes! I actually wasn’t in the hall once it was open to the public. Too many of off site press events!
Since when was this available at Barnes and Noble? Lots of people imported this game.
It just got released to the States.

As a comic collector from the mid 80s to the mid 90s, I can't wait to get my hands on this. Comic collecting was a big part of my childhood.

I see 3D printer upgrades coming soon from many people including my game group!

Really hope someone on Etsy prints replacements for the cheap tokens.
I’m sure people will
Check BGG. There is already someone on Etsy who has done this
Remember when this is 1/2 of Millennium Blades?
Nice score sheet flex ;)
Boom!
Baseball cards? I'm sure there's an audience for that, but comics have a much wider global appeal.
That’s what I mention as well, but I can dream!
@@TheGameBoyGeeks remember, that's a game by Brazilian developers. Baseball has less appeal here than even Mahjong have to you.
@@DinobotTM2 I understood why they picked this theme! I was pleading to the U.S publisher to make more version’s and print money :)

This kind of feels like a less interesting (though themed) spin on about 20% of Millennium Blades.
Are the tokens a worse quality than the original Brazilian edition?
I have not played the Brazilian version but I couldn’t imagine these are better.
Thanks for the video
You’re welcome James!
Looks good!
This give me vibes of Marvel Remix.

Very weird nobody googled it and noticed it was widely available online at the same time. Seems like a weird way to spend time at gencon.

Love your channel man but baseball cards?!?
Nostalgia at it highest!
I'm waiting for the X-Men expansion ...
The game is clever but duly repetitive. After a couple games I never felt the urge to play it again.
I've played it twice and enjoying it but the components are awful and the rulebook is atrocious. So many errors and nonsensical lines
I’m guessing most were translation issues
So tired of Marvel. So tired.
