      Great to hear, glad it will be of use. I've definitely struggled in the past! Just take your time and don't force the pistons past the seal with too much force. Work them in slowly so the seal doesn't get damaged. Don't ask how I know 😅

    My one and only tip, B-roll ! Can make it more visually interesting while giving explanations or descriptions of previous attempts (or other things). I know this can be troublesome to get your hands on as it occasionally needs reenactment if it wasn't being filmed, but b-roll is king ;)

    I have 3x rear calipers to refurb and sell for my EP3 that will also fit s2k’s.
    Literally cba, but the good thing about Honda rear calipers is that the piston face is cross cut so a lever of some sort means you can spin it out provided you are replacing the piston seal anyway. They dont have a mechanism like the MX5s. I always remember mine being a bit chewed up

  • @cba360
    @cba360 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To get the dust boot seated you could get two C shaped parts made on a 3D printer, should allow you to put pressure on the rear of the seal where isn’t accessible easily, ABS may be ok for exposure to brake fluid.
    When I put brake pistons in vice, I always put something soft between the face of piston and vice jaw, normally slip it aluminium.

    • @BOFIRacingTV
      @BOFIRacingTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We need some soft jaws for our vice. Cardboard could have worked too

    An extremely helpful and largely a very clear and concise guide on how to do the job. Reference to "the hotdog" was confusing ... I don't know what that bit is and it was not so clear as to why you needed to put it inside the piston in the way you did (when releasing the handbrake mechanism) ... seemed to me to be back to front ? Anyway, now I feel confident to undertake this caliper rebuild. Paint colour ? I'm painting mine red, of course ! Looking forward to your other videos too. Cheers.

    Nice work chaps! I've done this more times than i can count and never knew the hotdog trick to remove the handbrake gears! I made up a special tool to do that - That will be retired now haha. I'm unsure if its the editing or experiance, but you made that look a lot easier than I recall it being haha, the circlip is a little bugger.

    Great video, clearly explaining everything & how to do it. Just a thought when doing the rebuild part change gloves for clean and wipe down bench to prevent any dirt getting near the new hydraulics. Also a bit of cardboard over the jaws @ 07:00 would not go amiss :) . Also looking forward to trying the Redline gearbox oils you've just dispatched to me great service

    • @BOFIRacingTV
      @BOFIRacingTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you ☺️ some cardboard or a rag would definitely have been useful if I reused the pistons. I'd have also liked some aerosol brake cleaner to flush it out real nice. The calipers are still on the bench so I can flush it out through the brake line fittings before they get fitted at the weekend 👍 thanks for shopping with us the redline is good stuff!

  • @alexmessina3383
    @alexmessina3383 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They typically seem to leak out of the back of the caliper with fluid dripping around the handbrake spring and it seems, from your disassembly, that the only place a rear leak can be coming from is that little O-ring around the adjuster bolt? Do you think that's right ... the "seal" around the handbrake shaft is really just a dust boot not a pressure seal, I think.

    • @AndyMcGeever
      @AndyMcGeever ปีที่แล้ว

      The bolt over the adjuster screw has a copper washer on it so if fluid did bypass the o ring on the screw it would still have to get past that bolt.

    • @BOFIRacingTV
      @BOFIRacingTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      At least it's just the adjuster key thing that strips and not the part inside the caliper itself. They're easy enough to replace, just a pain in the butt when it does happen. I have one I swap side to side 😅
