Coming back to life
Marooned. But Pink Floyd is one of those bands that your favorite song could be the one that fits your present mood at the moment you are listening to their music.
High Hopes - I want that played at my funeral. A piece of music that makes me tearful every time I hear it simply because the melody is just so good.
Shine on you crazy diamond
pipers at the gates of dawn
Echoes, of course. All true PF fans know David won’t and can’t ever play it again due to the loss of Richard Wright. It’s sad but it also shows just how much this piece means to him and how it was a true duet between two great friends.
Nick Mason's, Saucers, had no problem playing it🤔 It sounded brilliant.
Nick Mason isn't David Gilmour. it really comes down to personal choice. David chooses not to play it again. I sure wish it was in their regular setlist when I saw them in '94.
@keithfarrelly3869 this made laugh 🤣🤣🤣
Richard Wright is the soul of pink floyd . R.I.P RICK...
Rick was the glue that held Floyd together musically.
The memories of a man in his old age...
Are the deeds of a man in his prime...
😎😎
This is why Pink Floyd survived as Gilmour/Mason/Wright, because David understood that it was a team effort and Roger didn’t.
Gilmour said there were a number of Floyd songs he could never play again after Wright died, and I’ve heard that he’s not playing any pre-87 Floyd on his solo tour. And I support him. He has only so much time to play and he wants to concentrate on his solo career. The youngest Floyd songs from the Waters era are over forty years old now and they are probably ancient history for him. I wish him all the best.
The first Floyd track I heard, in 1971, aged 15.
And it’s always been my ultimate favourite piece of Pink Floyd Music.
In the 2006 performance of Echoes from Gdańsk, you can feel David and Richard talking to each other with their instruments.
Magical. 🎶❤️🎶
The Live at Pompeii version still changes the weather.
Thank you, that was a lovely video! This show how M. Gilmour is a gentleman! For him, friendship and human relations are more important than the business. The fact that he choose M. Wright as a member of his band tells a lot. M. Gilmour could had chose anybody else but for him, he is the best. M. Wright sound is very influential on me since my teenage years. Oddly, the first that I heard was Piper at the gates of dawn. I liked that sound so much that I brought a Farfisa and plug a delay pedal for that early sounds that M. Wright made. I had never seen the video at the table when they discuss about Echoes! Thank you, tou made great video! 👍😎
As Gilmour announces tour dates for all over Europe. Hopefully, he comes to America. Echoes will be missed live!
America is in such a mess right now,I don’t see why he would.but if he does-I hope comes for bbq in Dallas.
Its happening man! Dont miss your ticket
@@cancelebi1 Right now Los Angeles and MSG in NYC. 😁😁😁🎸🎸🎸
Live in Gdańsk. That shows why! Incredible performance!
I was listening to my local community radio station a few weeks ago and was thrilled to hear a live recording of Echoes. It was from the Live in Gdansk release. I suppose that must have been the last performance of this amazing piece of music. RIP Richard Wright.
Echoes - David Gilmour Live in Gdańsk HD th-cam.com/video/xMrhRqK4iig/w-d-xo.html
Excellent video cheers for taking the time to put this together it's very much appreciated. As far as a favourite song goes I can't pick one I just love them all. I listen to a Floyd LP every day without fail since I first bought Dark Side of the Moon in 1973 they were a sensational band. I would go as far to say probably the best band the world has ever heard just a pity they fell out with each other but such is life I suppose.
Glad you enjoyed it!
R.I.P Mr. Richard William Wright Born: July 28, 1943, Hatch End, United Kingdom Died: September 15, 2008 (age 65 years), London, United Kingdom Mr. Richard Wright is the heart and soul of Pink Floyd
Dave and Rick were never friends.. they were brothers. I’m sure part of the Gilmour’s separation with Waters, had to do with Roger firing Richard Wright at the wall album.
That is when dave gilmour and Richard Wright said goodbye to each other, due to Richard's cance, gilmour will never play echoes live again,R.I.P RIC WRIGHT
Dave once said that Rick and him seem to know what each one was notes were coming and played off each other. Just watch "live from Gdsank" and you hear then talking to each other with their instruments,
I'm just glad I got to see Pink Floyd twice in Pontiac Michigan at the silver dome.It was an awesome show both times.
The second time I took a limo from Grand Rapids to Detroit ❤❤
Some history is best left untouched, I can't stress that enough. Shining example here.
Well said!
Richard Wright has always been my favorite member of the band!
I really liked the story about how the "pings" came to be!
Fascinating isn’t it!
"Echoes" is the best song ever written. Not the "Best Pink Floyd song ever" - but the BEST SONG EVER written.
Thanks for that information.
I would say "among the best". There are pieces with it at the top, but it is not surpassed.
Can’t do Echoes without Richard Wright. Their voices together are a necessity and no other voice would suffice.
It’s ironic and an honor to tell that it was echoes at Pompeii (the old one)that flipped the Pink Floyd switch on for me.at age 55.My interest in historical sites and heavy jam sessions grabbed me along with the duet vocals that rose way above the current muck I hear today.most of Floyd’s radio play was background work up until echoes.from there i went back and forward on their category finding much Peace and joy at the sounds and tellings within the bands various formations through the years.
I have just come back from A Nick Mason gig and they played Echoes. It was amazing
I’m going with option C. I’m not taking any sides. I’m just gonna sit back and listen to some Pink floyd.
When I read the title of this clip, I had a feeling this had nothing to do with the Gilmour/Waters fued. Rest in peace, Richard Wright. You are missed.
Another reason that 1971 was the best year in rock.
My favorite Pink Floyd song is "Welcome To The Machine" and the reason why is Rick's synthesizer playing. The man was just an incredible arranger of his keyboard work and could always get a sound to go with the mood of the song. "Dogs" and "Sheep" off of the "Animals" album are two more examples of just how incredible of a talent he was.
I totally agree with David. Wright's contribution to Floyd cannot be understated and his chromatic styles on keyboards reflect no specific genre of music. Hence, they are completely WRIGHT, ECHOES can be considered as the apex of that fact and the many presentations of the piece live were easily profound particularly the interchanges between David and Richard, even the duet vocals.
In the final section of the song "Echoes", there is this musical conversation between Richard Wright's keyboard & David Gilmour's guitar, representing what the song's final lyric is about.
However, since Wright died in 2008, Gilmour (sadly) could never have that conversation ever again. That's why Gilmour never performs this song live anymore. Apparently, 1/2 of the musical speakers is missing.
Imagine Rog giving absolute tribute and credit to a fellow band member the way Dave did with best friend and bandmate Rick!
That's what separated Dave from Rog: the former's sincere humanity, humility, and classiness. PF under the helm of Dave has had a maturer sound and melodicism that earlier Rog-led narcissistic Floyd didn't have.
Ps, I just went and downloaded Meddle from Apple to listen to Echos. It's been a few years... Nuttin but Joy!
Thx for the reminder😀
Wright. Wet Dream album has great stuff from him
Have a like as it deserves it, you could have showed the rare footage of Richard and Gilmour of echoes, it's enough to show the connection they had and how bad both voices fuses and same with ending guitar piano duo as it fades out. :)
Would make music TH-cam videos so much more informative if sections of the music could be played. After all, my TH-cam subscription allows me to play all of Pink Floyd’s music.
Echos is not only at the top of Pink Floyd's discography, it stands at the top the entire pre-90s Rock discography.
On the subject of genre, Floyd was a genre unto themselves. Nuff said.
David Gilmour was trying his best not to cry on stage when he accepted that award. Very touching.
Love echos love Richard ❤
Comfortably Numb is one of the greatest songs ever penned!
That's too bad, Echoes is one of my favorite PF songs, but right it is a very sentimental song, for me it is the equivalent to Beatles' "Something"
He’s so right it’s too special for Richard
My favorite are “dogs” and “ pigs” but love meddle album and most Pink Floyd’s
He did play it, in Gdansk, in Remember that night and live at Abbey Road.
Richard Wright died in 2008........Gdansk and Abbey Road was 2006 and 2007
Nick mason's band is playing the early obscure songs not the commercial hits from the 70s
Meddle is my favorite album! Echos is fucking amazing!!! I can 100% understand that it would be painful to play songs that Richard Wright had strong involvement in. He does not get enough recognition for the amazing music he helped to create with Pink Floyd.
Echoes. Yes. This house is so huge, cavernous, the entire conversation ECHOES, EChoes, echoes…
ECHOES without Rick Wright (singing) is not to be played LIVE ever again
Remember a Day
i swear: if richad still live, there where more pink floyd LP's get to birth😢
echoes was a work of genius, initially inspired by rick.
Quite Understandable Indeed...U Shan't Blame Him...
As far as being, '2nd fiddle' in the band, in Led Zeppelin, everything you like about that band, is all John Paul Jones. An interesting correlation between the two iconic groups.
So, after Ummagumma and Atom Heart Mother, it was Meddle that found Pink Floyd going into "more experimental realm"? 🙅♂
Shurley, best guitar solo in the world, comfortably numb, is the the planed upcoming event of Covid 19
NO ONE DOMINATES BEST FRIENDS
Gilmore is not only a virtuoso and a style that's all his own; however he was also a class act and had major issues with how Waters was always bullying Richard. Echoes is not only a real melodic journey of spiritual awareness, but the lyrics are simply remarkable. I mean in the realm of King Crimson.
That’s ok. I have all of the albums.
we cover echos and its so fun
Genius, all of them. It’s too bad they never got over their egos…but I couldn’t afford to see them live anyway, so probably for the best or I’d sell a kidney.
This is OLD news by now, and why he haven't performed Echoes pretty since 'ECHOES ACOUSTIC VERSION' on Abbey Road - August 2006. I bet this was recorded, just after the end of his "On an Island" Tour that ended the same month, were they had this song on their setlist on that tour, but not acoustic like the one I am referring to.
🐸When dave say "My" fren Richard Wright 😞
Not 1987, that Clip from Echoes is from 2006!!!
1:56 this was not 1987 but it was 2006
Why
I’m with Gilmore don’t dig up past that was clear
I almost fell asleep....
It’s a fucking 20 minute song if not longer you play a 20 minute song for every concert see how you like it and it’s not a simple song it’s very intricate and complicated. I understand why David doesn’t want to play that song anymore.
This wrong try Atom Heart Mother and see where the band were going.
Echoes - 1987 ??? lol what
Those live-recordings aren't from 1987 lmao, it's not from pulse, they didn't play Echoes on the Pulse tour. They're from Live At Gdansk in 2005.
Good spot. That's a mistake in the editing, my bad!
I'm sorry to have to point out that ECHOES is not a song from 1987🤦🏽
Editing mistake
The Return Of The Son Of Nothing is a great song
You should take a look at "Looking Through the Knothole in Granny's Wooden Leg"
@@destroyer_fletcher7415 are there any other titles for this song? 👍
Echoes is pure genius. It is pink Floyd's top song not one of the top song ... I am sorry , if u feel otherwise , your just plain wrong 🙏
Learn your music !
Ok he doesn’t want to play Echoes OK. No problem it’s a really really long song plus Richard has passed away. What’s the big deal?
PINK FLOYD IS GOD!!!
Click bait
How?
Mannnn playing some generic ass music in the background while talking about echos is mad disrespectful to the song😭😭 I get you want to monetize but damn
slop content regurgitating articles and filled with mislabelings
Glad you enjoyed the video my friend ❤️
Probably because he’s too old is he now I can’t remember how to play it
Gilmore need to go away
Your technician of music is a. Joke learn real story !
03:06 I believed that the artistic musical composition had always been taken care of by Roger Waters, lyrics, music, arrangements and set designs. You say that Richard write is the key to Pink Floyd's melodic and musical composition?, really?
