The size of the farm and the different level of crops will increase the attack size.
Keep your farm to 9 plots per tile, to start with to keep raid size small - you can use less materials and survive longer in an attack if your defence sticks out horizontally.
Hay bots fear saw blades even if not spinning, use them on your walls.
Place a Bed on your car, so you can set it as a respawn point.
Once you sell some crops to the farmer you can buy a spud gun from him for defence.
Keep going, I'm sure you will learn to enjoy the game once you get into it more.

I do plan to start over in a new world and do a lets play 2.0 using the knowledge I gained and the help you provided to hopefully have a more enjoyable experience for me and better video content for you all.
